I've had better nights' sleep in a tent. The rooms were extremely old, weird green carpet, discolored towels, one of the most uncomfortable beds I've ever been in, very dark (you can't open the windows or everyone and their mother can see in), TINY, and the worst of it was that it sounded like a herd of elephants over my head at 6am while people started waking up and the maids started going into rooms. It was pure torture, and we paid an obscene amount of money for that torture. I love Santa Barbara, but I've rarely felt like I was fleeing a city just to be in my own bed again. The only upside was that it was blocks from the beach and 3/4 mile from downtown, so it was all walkable. But at night, there are homeless people who will approach, so I wouldn't do it alone.

A nice place to stay, with the most helpful and friendly reception team who moved heaven and earth to help me find a phone charger to fit my UK mobile - many thanks!

Place is overpriced for what you receive. The rooms are postage stamp size. Two people can bearly fit in the bathroom together. We had mold on the shower head. Not the greatest neiborhood. Lousy parking if you can get it. We paid over two hundred a night plus city taxes. We booked for two nights and if we could have canceled the second night without loosing our money we would have. Terrible place. Stayed there 8/29/2008 & 8/30/2008. Richard & Elizabeth Vals

Visited daughter, her hubby, and grandchildren. We had a great time. Hotel staff made up for the arachnids with apology, champaign, and Ferrero-Rochet truffles. Good continental breakfast, wine & cheese at 430, and cookies & milk later!! Best trip we've had in a long time!

"This is not a 3 star hotel...first room was dirty and very small, second room view was a brick wall, noisy, bad neighborhood, could not walk the location, not close to dining, not walking distance to harbor, parking terrible"

we loved our stay. Bikes available for cruising around and DVD movies to watch, all free of charge. Close to the beach..about a 2 block walk. Great choice!

"The hotel loaction is a few blocks from the harbor. There is a nice courtyard and small pool area. The rooms were a bit dated but clean. Santa Barbara is expensive, and this is a great hotel for a night or two."

The pictures are VERY deceiving! i paid a large amount of money and was very disappointed! no room service, small rooms, bad location. It felt like it hadn't been updated since the 90's. Rooms very stuffy and air conditioner didn't work well. I will be much more careful the next time i book a hotel online.

"I loved this ""inn."" The beach is one block; harbor, pier and shopping within walking distance. The room was like a studio apartment; clean with fully stocked kitchen with nicer pots than I have at home, huge closet. Office staff nice and helpful; they have DVDs you can check out at no cost, which was great for my kids. My only dislike was the table - a bistro-style table for 2, and I had 2 little kids with me ... we picnicked on the floor because the chairs were too high for them."

Nice big rooms, full kitchen. Good location, near state street and the wharf. There are just lots of homeless people on the 1 mile walk to state street. (not really the hotels fault, more of a Santa Barbara thing since there are tons of homeless people there downtown)

"Room was not worth the money, poor parking, area was not very good"

The facade of the hotel is beautiful in the pix, but the hotel is like a Motel 6 upgrade. It is like they used a wide angle lens on the front - it is really tiny. Behind the lobby the long, narrow building which are the two rows of rooms on two floors. You park right in front of your room, and parking is precious - the view from your room is another long, skinny, drab, old apt building. Hotel is an older building (not in the historic GOOD way) and for the price not at all what I was expecting or hoping to find in beautiful Santa Barbara. So many other choices in this city and this hotel was expensive - so I would never stay here again. Not at all what I was hoping to experience.

My husband and I went to the Inn by the Harbor with my parents on Christmas Day. The rooms were cuter than I had anticipated. It was cozy and clean, with nice little accents and details. The rooms aren't all exactly the same--my parents paid the same for their room, yet our room had a larger flat-screen TV and a large stuffed chair in addition to the chair at the desk. There are DVD players in every room with free DVD rentals at the front desk and free wireless internet throughout the property. The surrounding location doesn't look like much, but it's actually a short walk to the Harbor and a five-minute drive to the Santa Barbara Mall (actually a large outdoor shopping location). I'd recommend it and would definitely stay again

I know its a cheap motel but still at $* a night one would expect a comfortable bed. I guess it turned out to be a good thing that I didn't get any sleep because not only did the alarm not work but the wake service failed me as well. Would not stay here again.

We were very pleased with our stay----the wine and cheese were great, along with the cookies and milk!! We stayed in a room near the park and this room/area was very quiet. The office computer was very fast and the continental breakfast was more than ample!! We were only 2 blocks from the main harbor, and again my wife and I really enjoyed all aspects of the hotel!!! And if you like Mexican food you must visit both the Rose Cafe in town and La Super Rica on Milpas Street----awesome!! (La Super Rica was Julia Childs' favorite). While at La Super Rica Dennis Franz (you know--Andy Sipowicz of NYPD Blue) came in and sat ride down beside us---awesome---my first real live sighting of a TV star!!!)

"Great place with welcoming wine, cheese and crackers in the lobby and homemade chocolate chip cookies later. Rooms are cozy and the central courtyard has nice greenery. We decided to stay an extra night."

While the attempt was there to update and older motel, I didn't feel safe in the neighborhood or the ground floor room. It was obvious it had been a smoking room in the past. What was clear to me is that the photographs of the place make it seem much nicer and nearer the beach that it actually is.

"Picture is a lot nicer than it is. Walls were thin; neighbors kept us up until 2:00 am. Not close to the Harbor or State street. Outside area is dirty. The hotel staff was friendly and are trying to make it nicer, but it still has a long way to go."

the service and hotel staff was excelent they had a very good breakfast, thehotel and grounds was superior, very short walk to the beach all areas were withing walking distance great place to stay

It was exactly what we were looking for. Walking distatnce to everything, not too dressy, but nice and casual setting. The only set back was the electricity went out. But it had nothing to do with the hotel itself. There was a car accident in front of the hotel causing the propblem. The staff was freindly and the room was clean.
