Arrived into Hotel 2am from late Inter Island Ferry, reception was welcoming and accommodating, and allowed us to book out late. Rooms were very clean, and despite being in the city, very quiet. Location was very central to everything. Had our own rental vehicle to tour around as we had done on the South Island for 3 weeks. Whilst parking nearby to Tourist Info. centre received a very loud, foul mouthed comment from elderly woman driving late model conv. BMW with personalized number plates advertising NZ!!. We decided to continue on further North to friendlier territory. First impressions - lasting impressions.

Our room was not cleaned, the staff was partially helpful. After a long day of traveling to this location and seeing the city, I stepped into the shower and found greasy fingerprints all over. I didn't know what to think of it, so I finished my shower then got into bed. As soon as I got into bed it smelled intensely of body odor. I moved to the other side of the bed to get away from the smell and as I did I discovered a used ear plug in between the sheets! I immediately called the front desk and demanded a new room. They were hesitant to give it to me, then insisted I go downstairs to get the key for the new room, which I refused to do. They finally brought it to me 10 minutes later after I explained how inconvenient the situation was to me, the guest. This all occurred around 12:30am. When I checked out the next day, they did not offer an apology or a discount. I couldn't believe they tried to pass off such a flithy room as clean, then try to make me feel like a bad person for not wanting to sleep in a bed which smelled of terrible body odor and someone else's used ear plugs, and shower in their grease. Very disappointing stay.

Basic hotel but very well situated in the heart of Wellington

Good central location, clean and quiet. Good variety of foods at breakfast

Our only complaint was that we could not get the air conditioning to cool the room off properly. There was cool air coming out of it but it was still too hot to sleep properly. Otherwise the hotel was excellent and we will stay there again.

There was a real lack of towels in the room, apart form that was great!

Have stayed there before - excellent helpful staff Only issue was we booked a twin room and ended up with a Queen - but as the bed was large we just accepted it and didn't complain. Would stay there again - good value, good location- excellent breakfast set-up

We had a double room, with 2 double beds in it. There was not much room for anything else, in fact, really the room was too small for 2 beds. I would have liked a bigger room, or perhaps 2 rooms adjacent.

Difficult to better for value for money. Friendly, helpful service. Room was not large but was well designed and more than adequate for a short stay. Buffet breakfast was very good.Evening meal OK but over-priced.

Excellent location for doing business in the city [I had business at Queens Wharf and Lambton Quay] and I just left car in hotel carpark [extra cost but cheaper than the street] the whole time. My room was tidy, though a little jaded - but comments to to housekeeping staff brought quick repairs. The double-double bed [6' long and 8' wide] is a bit OTT, especially for 1 person - they could reduce it to a queen bed and put in some drawers. Meals were very nice and overall stay was good. Would stay here again.

Small queen size room, hard bed, dated daycore. 3 stars. Dinning was better than average

Rooms are spacious enough, clean and reasonably quiet given the central city location. The lighting in the rooms could be brighter. Staff at reception and in the restaurant were friendly and helpful. The only area where the service fell short of expectation was housekeeping - on each of the 2 days we stayed, items such as a bath mat, tissues etc were forgotten which was a nuisance.

As a craftsman plumber the shower temperature fluctuated quite noticeably from hot to cold etc. Pressure I feel is too high and could prove difficult for an elderly person. I think a flow control device should be incorporated into some of the units.

We have stayed at this hotel a few times now. Service is always good, staff are always friendly, rooms are always clean. I would recommend this hotel to people.
