Being on the Kaanapali strip is one of the best locations, however the Hyatt is at the far south end of the strip and there's about 10-25 minute walk (depending on what you're planning on doing) to get to any beach activities, good surf to play in, and eateries. The BEST snorkeling is at Black Rock, the complete other end of the Kaanapali strip - well worth the 25 min walk. You'll see all the fish you would on an expensive tour, plus, if your luck you'll see sea turtles (I even touched one). The food at the hotel is quite expensive, but is everywhere too. The best deal is to do the continental breakfast in the market by the pool. $10 will get you all the "cold" breakfast items you can pile on your plate. (The $29 buffet will get you all the same "cold" items, plus the "hot" items - eggs, bacon, ect..)

Beautiful landscaping and view of the ocean. Water slides were closed for construction. Great hotel!

This hotel is family friendly. The pool setup is great, with one side very kid-oriented. To use the big water slide, you have to be 48" tall - and it's fun for the whole group! Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast buffet, poolside dining and onsite luau were very nice and very convenient. This is one of a group of hotels in the Ka'anapali area, and there is a path along the beach's edge for walking/running. A mall (Whaler's Vilage) with shops/restaurants and food court is about a 10-15 minute walk North along the path and provides dining options that don't require driving. We enjoyed the Hula Grill. Sailing catamaran excursions (I booked and recommend the Teralani 2 premium snorkel trip) depart from the beach adjacent to the mall. Our room had a small fridge and there's a Safeway a short drive South. Would definitely stay here again.

It was a little more expensive but that's probably because everything has to be shipped from Oahu to Maui. The open-air restaurant above the pool is fabulous for a sunset drink or the strawberry parfait! The beach is a little rocky but there's still room to layout...or you could rent two cabana chairs with umbrellas for * per day. I didn't do the beachside massage but they were actually booked almost the entire three days we were there.

Our entire trip was amazing. The Hyatt is the place to be, our package included breakfast which was awesome. They have a great pool and bar, and the restaruants had the best food. You are walking distance to the other hotels and restaurants along the beach whether for a quick meal or a fancy one. You can catch a bus into town... and go to Front Street and shop and dine. All around we had a Fabulous time celebrating our one year anniversary! We would go back in a heartbeat. Best vacation we ever took.

Being on the oceanfront walkway making all beaches accessible by foot. All was very good but the rooms may be getting close to remodeling time. The hotel, I think, from what I saw, the best overall hotel on Kaanapali. The grounds are great and the staff helpful. Although, it does feel like the hotel nickle and dime you here and there. There is nightly entertainment near the pool and there are some shaded areas when you don't feel like sitting in the sun any longer. I would recommend the Hyatt to friends and family.

This Hyatt was a wonderful experience. The staff was friendly, the restaurants were very good and my entire family enjoyed the beautiful surroundings. The lobby was exceptionally nice and I enjoyed spending my extra time there watching the parrots, koi fish, and penguins. The fitness gym was very well equipped with Lifestyle machines, cool towels and water with citrus slices. I have never slept this good away from my own bed..theirs were like sleeping on a cloud. We signed up for the Drums of the Pacific Luau that was on-site and it was one of the best meals and evening we enjoyed while we stayed on Maui. The Kaanapali location was good in relation to the outdoor activities we engaged in and for quick jaunts into Lahina for shopping and new eating experiences. I would definitely return to this hotel and recommend it to my friends.

My family and I were treated like royalty from the minute we drove up the driveway until the minute we checked out. The staff is well trained in customer service. The resort is awesome. We felt that we didn't need to leave the resort or Kaanapoli Beach. Everything we wanted to do was right there. The Hyatt has activities for all ages. The gym has all of the best equipment so pack your work-out outfit. When you lay by the pool, you will be waited on by a wonderful staff. The pool is great. There is a kiddy section of the pool that looks really cool. The waterslide for the older kids is great. They also had evening activities including a family movie by the pool a couple nights while we were there. The breakfast buffet is delicious. You need to get there before 8 a.m. so you don't have to stand in line for a table. We really enjoyed ourselves and plan on returning to this resort again real soon.

Maui is awesome! The weather, beaches, views and food are out of this world. During our stay, we did two excursions: Sunrise at Haleakala and drove the Road to Hana. Sunrise is a must; it is worth waking up at 1:30 AM to see the sun rise above the clouds. The Hyatt was a great hotel. They upgraded our room to partial ocean view, and provided us with champagne to celebrate our anniversary. I definitely noticed a focus on customer service. The hotel is busy, with a lot of kids/families, so if you are looking for romantic seclusion, this may not the best place for that. Maui is incredibly romantic on its own so you will get that feeling no matter where you stay. Some areas of improvement for the hotel would be a larger pool area, by 9:30 AM I would have to walk around for 15 minutes waiting for a pool chair to be free. The beach on the hotel is rocky, but walk 5 minutes along the path to the other hotels you will see a stretch of stunning secluded beaches with clear teal colored waters. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel for a great vacation in Maui!

Restaurants were surprisingly good. Hidden resort fee of $15.00/day is unfair. Very attentive staff, but the room layouts and furnishings are slightly dated and need upgrading. Pool is decent, and the grounds are nicely kept.

As promised, Manager had our luggage moved to room 361 in the Lahaina Tower on our second morning at the Hyatt after it had been cleaned and while we were out being tourists. The room was exactly as I had been previously promised (partial ocean view) when I called Hyatt and online travel website before making my reservations. It was on the third floor and had about a 120 degree view of the ocean, most of which was blocked by palm trees but enough spaces existed to allow limited whale watching. Higher floors would offer magnificent views. The balcony overlooked the swan pool and its beautiful landscaping. Unfortunately, the beauty of the view and the sound of the ocean is lost at 4:00 every afternoon until 7:00-9:00 every evening when a "Kenny Rodgers" wantabe lounge singer does his thing at the Umalu Restaurant next to the adult swimming pool. His volume is so high it drowns out all other local sounds and can be heard inside the room with all doors closed. Calls to the front desk accomplished nothing. Romance must be experienced elsewhere during those hours. Even though the hotel appeared to be half occupied, all lounge chairs at the pool and the few provided near the beach were taken early in the morning. The hotel really needs to provide more lounge areas especially for those not wanting the noise of children playing in/near the pool areas.TV was older CRT style with poor picture. Dirty grout.

We love the Hyatt Maui, after researching tons of hotels on Maui we chose the Hyatt because it had everything we were looking for, great restaurants, beautiful views, shopping in the hotel and reasonable proximity to attractions. The breakfast buffet was a nice touch, we started each day with a full breakfast and found we spent more time enjoying our stay than looking for places to eat while we were out exploring. The shops are nice, there is a small Macy's and several boutique stores in the hotel with clothing, local arts, gifts and snacks. The hotel staff was absolutely wonderful, friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back to visit this hotel.

Enjoyed the facilities very much with my 2 sons and daughter and wife. Location is fantastic and staff was very attentive. Rooms were clean, beds were comfortable, pillows were soft. Unfortunately, food like everywhere else in Maui is dreadfully expensive. The pool area was spectacular and my children enjoyed the the water slide very much.

The Hyatt Regency wa by far the best hotel we have ever booked with Priceline. It was fabulous. We loved everything.

Reserved a partial ocean view room. 1st room assigned was 2030 in the Atrium Towers (main building) which faces the mountain and noisy highway. "K" at Front Desk claimed this was the correct room because one can see shoreline and part of a bay when leaning over the balcony railing. online travel website was no help because none of the three people the problem was escalated to bothered to speak to a manager, only the same uncooperative person at the Front Desk. I was finally able to speak to Manager Mark who was the picture of professionalism and who promised to move us to an appropriate room first thing in the morning when one became available. I was left wondering if the hotel had overbooked the real partial ocean view rooms or if they assign the "bad" rooms to discounters like online travel website. Rooms are very basic. I have stayed in better Holiday Inns. The Atrium section has tiled exterior hallways that face the beautiful inside section of the hotel. Those tiled hallways magnify the sound of wheeled suitcases as the late arrivals check in and the early departures leave and are so loud you think they are walking through your room. Bathroom tiles were broken and chipped with mold growing in a number of places. Tile grout was filthy throughout. An animal of some sort scratched the wood of the door and frame inside the bathroom. Curtains were filthy (blood or chocolate?). Furniture was dated, scratched and damaged. What we liked: comfortable bed, good hotel design keeping rooms away from elevators and ice machines, Manager Mark. Caution: The only decent ocean views in the Atrium building are those actually facing the ocean. Unfortunately, these also face the noisy swimming pool and Umalu Restaurant (read next review for related noise problems).

It was so much fun.. You walk into the hotel after driving and being on a plane and everyone is so inviting. They greet you with a lie. They upgraded our room for free since it was our honeymoon. They did an amazing job. we will be back.

Outstanding pool. Beach wasn't as nice as the section in front of the Sheraton.

We had the best time at this resort. There were 2 pools--one kid-centered pool with easy, shallow wading sections and a short, not-too-fast slide that our son (5) loved. On the days that my husband and son were out hiking, I went to the adult pool and was able to relax with out all the kiddos around--which was a treat. We spent most of the afternoons by the pool and had many lunches there--the food was delicious. Camp Hyatt was a wonderful activity for my son on days that we had little planned that he would enjoy. He liked playing with the other kids, and the hosts were very nice to him. Our room was lovely and very comfortable. Overall, it was the best vacation we have ever had as a family.

My husband and I visited Maui last June and stayed at the Hyatt Regency. We loved it so much that we decided to return for a shorter stay this spring. The grounds are very nice and spread out enough that you don?t feel cramped, but you also only have a short walk to get to from one side of the resort to the other. We love staying on Kaanapali beach since there are so many ammenites and restaurants, but being at the Hyatt is the best because it is toward the end and therefore doesn?t have too much ?beach traffic?. The other reviewers talked about how small the Hyatt?s beach is, but they have a big nice, quite beach right in front of the spa. They must have been walking toward Whalers Village and missed it. Speaking of the spa; check out their facilities! You can get a 25min beach front massage for less than in the spa and still use their facilities, or you can pay 15 for a day and it is really worth it. It?s a great place to relax and get cleaned up after a day at the beach. This is very handy if you have a late flight, but want to hang out at the pool or beach after checkout. It?s a lot nicer than the free locker rooms and you can use their body products, hairdryers and curling iron. Oh, don?t pay for the upgrade to a partial ocean view, we had more of an ocean view from our terrace on the first floor and the rooms are exactly the same. Besides, you will only be in your room when it?s dark.
