Date of Stay:
July, 2009
It was very noisy in mid nights and it has very unfriendly staffs. It was the second worst hotel that I have seen in all of my travels.

I had a nice experience at the hotel but it did'nt have a fitness center and I was looking forward to working out and enjoying myself.
Date of Stay:
April, 2009
Hotel had free parking. Rooms were not very soundproof. Could hear lots of hallway noise.

Hotel facilities average but good restaurant/bar. Not the best of locations if you intend to do any sightseeing down town, but there is a good bus connection.

I stayed in the hotel for one day. The hotel is kind of old. But not too bad... Everything was working ... there was no fridge or Microwave or A/C No free breakfast.

The pool small and not heated --unable to use even in July. The restaurant is NOT full service. Breakfast was eggs (not fully cooked) English muffins and horrible coffee for FIFTEEN dollars for 2 people! Absolutely disgusting. The FREE parking was full and we had to park in a different unsecured lot. Internet service forget it. you had to pay either 10.00 for 24 hours (continuous) or 2.00 an hour. The room was clean but very small. The hotel had that old stale smell from when smoking used to be allowed. TV selection minimal. Walls are paper thin and can hear noisy neighbors. All in all a BIG disappointment. Not likely I will go to a "HoJO" again. One staff member was very friendly (she even told of us of good place to eat at the Best Western down the street) the rest could care less we were even there.

This hotel was older than most I stay at, but the hospitality was good, the rooms spotless, and the location easy to find. There was construction nearby, so it was difficult to enter from the street without going further, making a U-turn, and returning along the correct side of the street. We were not able to eat at the restaurant at the hotel as it was not open when we needed it, but there was a nice cafe down the street about two blocks that was great. We were not in a "great" part of town, but it was close to downtown and the places we wanted to visit.

Nothing. Staff was not friendly or accommodating. Not whatI expected at all from a Howard Johnson facility.

This hotel is away from the busy n expensive downtown (North Vancouver), ave can$ 100 to $150 per night, but is not too far away, just 15 minutes away by bus (Can$ 2.50 per trip or $9 day ticket) or about Can$15 by Taxi. Downtown hotel cost above $200 to 400. Near MetroTown Mall , Capilano Suspension Bridge and Goose Mountain (about 40 mins by Transit bus). Basic hotel facility and food are available.

Loud, fighting guests, rip off US/Canadian exchange rate in restaurant, and a fire in the bar at 1:30 AM ( and evacuation) all added up to a very unpleasant experience. Clean enough, but not worth the noise and hassle.

The good: The view of the mountains from our room was incredible. The staff was very helpful and had good suggestions for restaurants. WiFi was available for $10 for 24 hours. The not so good: The room was extremely small and not very clean. The was no refrigerator in the room.

The manager on duty was excellent, if it wasn't for his kindness, I would have left. Everything (except the nice manager). Tiny rooms for an outrageous price. Practically no parking, in a not-so-great part of town, and expensive food that wasn't even very good.
Date of Stay:

I thought that when I booked this hotel room not only were we going to be able to easily access downtown but also that we were going to be able to SLEEP. Sleeping was next to impossible with the 'booming vulgar music' from the 'Sports bar'. I don't recall having to endure any 'nightclub' in the description. Never again and if you actually want a clean place to SLEEP don't even spend one second considering it.

For what we wanted, which was a cheap, safe place to crash for the night after traveling in and around Vancouver all day, it was perfect. The rates were great in the off-Season (we went at the end of March). The hotel rooms seemed a little old and not all rooms have the listed amenities. For example, we didn't have a fridge, so we had to keep putting ice in our little travel cooler! The joined rooms have very little sound insulation, so not so good for a romantic getaway, maybe--although for a family that needs two rooms, that's probably perfect. We ended up getting to hear our neighbors deconstruct their night on the town--when they came home at 3am. :( Ask for a room with a view of the mountains--the sunrise over them was fantastic. The hotel bar serves boxed wine, but the proprietor is a huge fan of American Idol. Overall, if you have a car, I'd say it's worth it, but if you're relying on public transit, it's far away from downtown, Stanley Park, the Anthro Museum, etc. I'd stay there again.

Friendly staff. Wireless is not free, rooms were small, loud noise from outside. No not recommend unless you are very tight on budget. Bathroom was disgusting and smelt of mildew! Noise from outside in the night. Heater would not turn off and it got very hot in the room. Very unpleasant experience.

"the hotel is in terrible shape and needs lots of improvement. Friendly staff except for the manager, whose manners and modal are inappropriate for his position. I would never recommend this hotel to a friend."

Centrally located near downtown, but far enough to have easy access and private parking lot. And being farther out made it a better value. Walking distance to 4 coffee places & several fine-looking restaurants. The restaurant in the hotel had live music one night, although we did not attend. All in all we were very satisfied with the room and the value.

It was conveniently located near the places we wanted to go. Dirty, tiny rooms, noisy, rowdy, smelly. If you're looking for a really cheap room, and don't care much for comfort, this is the place for you! Not a good place for families with children, the rooms arevery small! Karaoke bar downstairs, very noisy at night, and rowdy on the weekends! The beds feel like sheets of plywood, the floor was more comfortable to sleep on!

"Room ok, but hotel needs some reaconditioning. 7nd floor just exiting elevator you found a huge Coc Cola?s fridge -great obstacle to turn around with my baggage. Front desk staff not very gently, except a lady who was very kind."
Date of Stay:
August, 2008
The Howard Johnson Plaza is a hotel in transition. They are loacted in a part of town that is being rebuilt quite nicely, while some of the local establishments are still quite rough and run down. The building is quite tired, and while we received a room with two beds for the three of us the bathroom was tiny and there was virtually no room to manouver inside the room. It is located a short drive from downtown.
