The hotel was like most others. I would say ordinary. The bathroom was small but, all we needed. The flat screen TV was nice but would have been better if it swiveled so that you could watch it from a chair. The beds need to be replaced, they did not fit the frame so if you sat on the edge or rolled over in bed you felt like you might fall out. The pool looked like it need a good cleaning; the water was kind of mirky. The location is great! It's sits almost in the middle of the boardwalk so you never need to get back in your car.

That it was in a Great location and the staff was helpful and friendly. Bathrooms were too small. Great Hotel overall. Need to expand bathrooms and ice machines need to be more acessible.

Heading to a shore town in January made booking a hotel easy. Seems like all the hotels were competeing for my business offering ridiculously low rates and after visiting I can understand why. Had to go there for business. I booked this particular hotel because it had an on-site restauraunt and a heated indoor pool & jacuzzi. An added bonus was that it was right on the boardwalk with a beautiful view of the beach. The room was clean however the bathroom was rather small. Had some issues with my first room & a stubborn door, but they moved me to another room without any problems. The only thing that was disappointing was that the restaurant was closed during the off season. Actually almost everything is closed in that town in January. I wish the hotel site had mentioned that it was unavailable. I am happy that I stayed at the HJ Plaza and it was worth the price I paid ($* for an upgraded room). However I would not pay the the over-the top prices to stay here in the summer. For $* it was just fine. I go back again in the off-season.

I have stayed at this hotel twice, the first time was less than stellar, but the second trip was wonderful and definitely redeemed this hotel in my opinion. It is an excellent location, right on the boardwalk and next to the Brass Balls Saloon and eatery. You will be right on the beach, so you don't to worry if you forget anything in the room and you don't have to worry about using the boardwalk bathrooms as your hotel is right there. I would never stay anywhere but ocean front as the rooms on the side of the hotel can be noisy with the bar next door and they are facing the heating and cooling vents for the other building so can be quite hot. You do still have a balcony. Ocean front rooms are much more upscale, beautiful bathrooms, bigger balconies with a wonderful view. Definitely the place to stay if you'd like to be right in the action.

It was great to enter the room and see the ocean from our balcony. It was a little cold since we went in March, but still had a great time. The staff was very helpful with directions and advice on local attractions. We even went to Assateague Island to see the wild horses, only a 20 minute ride there. A must see, bring binoculars.

Hotel was very nice. Room was clean and newly renovated. Restaurant was very nice. Pools were not clean. We could not get a receipt when we checked out. The room and hotel were very nice. The parking garage was convenient. The hotel restaurant was very nice yet pricey.

Stayed week of 13 oct, 2008. Very disappointed. We paid for the Oceanfront Delux, off season, to enjoy the ocean and quiet. One moring there was banging on the roof directly above our top floor room at 7:30. We called the desk and they said they would have them stop. 2 days later, at 8:30. Same deal. Light switches were dirty...all of them, old toothpaste on the bathroom wall stayed the whole time we did, coffee wasn't replaced, called the desk and ended up getting it ourselves 6 hours later. Dirt smudge marks on the doors, beds advertised were old and worn out...could feel springs....this was delux? I never write reviews and have since gone back and written good reviews for nice places we stayed. This was unbelieveable. I wrote Howard Johnson too...they have forwarded it to the independant owner. Nothing back yet. Lobby, restaurant, hallways....all nice and well decorated seemingly pretty clean. Elevator was filthy. We will never stay again....off season rate didn't make up for the off quality.

I liked the peacefulness of the hotel. I also like the view of the ocean from the restaurant. I did not like the tiny bathroom. I have young children and it was very hard to fit more than one person in the room. Overall it was what I expected for a family vacation.

I absolute enjoyed everything. The renovations are not fully complete; for example, the room sprinkler systems holes in the wall from pictures being moved. Beside the room door seams on several doors seem too have a huge gap in the frames. Also the renovations to the bathrooms literally have swallowed the space of the bathroom up. Bathrooms too small. Mattresses are way too soft; I asked for a replacement, I was told that all the beds are like that. Not good. A board was cut for my side of the bed. Other than noted discrepancies I found that my wife and I really enjoyed the peace and quiet, the Ocean view and the staff was excellent.

Good location right on the beach and boardwalk. Room was clean, comfortable, and quiet. There was a bad smell in an elevator. The elevators are open to anyone passing by the hotel. Quite comfortable and clean hotel in the off-season, with a beautiful beach. Everything we hoped for during our stay, and at a very reasonable price.

Location was great on the boardwalk. Two different occasions was blocked by delivery truck while trying to park in the garage. Very annoying. Overall enjoyed the stay - they need to do something about delivery trucks blocking their garage. Loved the location on the boardwalk. Would stay again.

Location. Not in go repair. It was under construction, not in great repair, a little old, but it was inexpensive, and it is in a great location. They remodeling it look like, so improvements are on the way. I guess for a beach hotel it is what's to be expected.

The hotel has a nice indoor heated pool and spa. They should clean the pool a little nicer. Over all we had a great time, my kids loved being in an adjoining room and that they could go swimming there all day long.

The view of the Atlantic ocean from our balcony. Work being done on the lobby windows. Comfortable and lovely.

Nice location. Extra fees. Hotel charges a safe fee which I did not notice until checking out. I asked the clerk if this charge could be removed. The clerk¿s response was "no, you have already checked out". We never used the safe. If hotels make a fee mandatory it should be in the daily rate. Why not make services an "opt in" rather then an "opt out" approach. Lately, I feel like the hotels have a stick it to the customer attitude.

Location. It smelled like mildew because our 5th floor room had flooded from heavy rain. The whole hotel was stuffy. The rooms themselves appeared to be relatively clean, although they smelled like mildew due to flooding from heavy rain. Also, our bathtub was clogged and we were unable to take a shower for half the day because it took that long for the maintenance man to come fix it. The indoor and outdoor pool areas are extremely small and were not too clean. This hotel is definitely not fancy in any respect, and it was sort of outdated. However, if you plan to spend much of your time out of the room, this hotel may suffice.
