Rooms were clean. Staff were respectful. Only down fall was noisy guest. Walking back and forth, slamming doors, yelling. Asked to be moved after first night. Second night not much better. No rest and to top it off it was my honeymoon.

We booked this reservation because of the discounted rate, however we were very happy to discover that we got much more than we expected. The gentlemen at the front desk were very friendly, and even made conversation with the kids while my husband and I were checking-in. The room was much larger than a normal hotel room, and the Queen beds were great as there were four of us. The furnishings looked brand new, and the fridge and microwave were incredibly convenient. The wireless Internet (free!) was an added bonus, as I was able to stay in the room with the kids rather than go to business center downstairs in the lobby. The breakfast room was incredible. It is much bigger than most hotels'. My husband loved the big flat-screen tv=) and the kids loved the make-your-own waffles. There is a Friendly's Restaurant in the hotel parking lot which was great for us with the kids. However, we also saw several other restaurants close-by that you could walk to. The hotel was very convenient to the University and downtown Newark. It was a quick 5 minute drive into town, and you get to drive through the campus which is really a sight (worth doing if you have the time). All in all, we were very happy with our stay and wanted to make sure we let others know what a great deal this hotel is. No, it is not a 4-star, but for those of us who can't afford 4-stars right now, this hotel is much better than its 2-star listing.

The Howard Johson Inn Suites wasn't fancy but it certainly fills the need for a fine place to stay at a reasonable price. The continental breakfast was quite welcome. My room was equpped with a microwave, refrigerator, hair drier, and iron. They also have wireless internet

The facility was clean, the staff was cordial, and the complimentary breakfast was decent. The only complaint regards the well worn mattress that did not provide comfortable sleep.

Friendly, accommodating, cheerful, safe. Everything was okay. We genuinely enjoyed our stay and felt that the staff was able and willing to give us directions, information, and pointers for the area.

This is a partially refurbished old "HoJo" hotel. There are 3 buildings interconnected, and navigating your way through the maze is confusing. There's 3 stories, and no elevator, so be prepared to lug your luggage up the never ending stairways. The hotel has all interior corridors, so at least you're out of the weather and somewhat safe. The rooms are drafty due to the old patio doors in each unit. You're either cold or sweating since the HVAC units are old and in need of repair. The bathroom was too cold to shower in during early morning and evening hour, as well as the "hot" water being barely warm during those hours as well/ The breakfast is fantastic, and the front desk is friendly enough. That's about the nicest thing I can say about this hotel. It really needs to be overhauled for this century. It's a bed, even if it's an old one at that.

Price posted on Internet was about * lower than front desk would acknowledge. Told front desk one person was wheel chair-bound, but we were directed up a slope to a heavy door that opened out - - not at all handicapped friendly. Also, charged an extra dollar for a safe we did not ask for, did not want, and did not use.

They claimed we checked in too late to get the requested rooms even though they were prepaid. They claimed one room was no smoking but it smelled of smoke. The other was a disgusting smoking room. We had no choice but to put up with this terrible check in.

Had a nice surprise, upon arrival was greeted by a professional front desk person, pleasant and well mannered. The room was clean and up to date, with everthing in working order. Room was cleaned every day, and all items restocked. Breakfast area was CLEAN and SPACIOUS,and provided newspapers, and had all the basics including make your own waffles. Parking was never a problem and common areas were clean. Good location for Brandywine area, and a GREAT price for the room. When hotels are getting more expensive or providing less, or skimping on the upkeep.....This Howard Johnson does a great job, at a good price.

This is the 2nd time we've stayed at this hotel and I was very happy with it. The rooms were clean and spacious. The pool looked clean. The staff friendly. The breakfast was very impressive for a *continental breakfast*. The bed did have a *pit* in the middle. Overall, nothing fancy, but great deal for the price.

I could not sleep well due to noisy neighbors and poor room sound-proofing. Could hear neighbors talking and TV. 1st night sheets stained, too late to complain. Slept between bedspread and blanket. 2nd night, sheets had been changed and were ok. There was no choice in pillow thickness or firmness, so had to sleep with my neck bent up at an unusual angle. Painful next day. 1st night, put security chain on door and a huge ant climbed out of a screw-hole in the door. The entire hotel appeared to be dirty, even though it had been cleaned. The door to the balcony could not be opened as the latch was inoperable. I was glad there was not a fire with that as the only exit. It is an old motel, but it has obviously not been completely renovated recently. I only had 2 brief contacts with the staff, and they were very pleasant and cooperative. I did not have the time to detail these complaints with them, but I thank them for being nice and making me feel at home when we did come in contact.

Breakfast choice was large and reasonable. The Hotel had some railing on the poolside stairs that were loose or not anchored. The location to interstate was close. A Friendly Restaurant was next door. It had guest laundry at $2 for each. Breakfast hour and selection of items good. The interior halls, outside railings and sliding glass doors in rooms were shabby.

Do yourself a favor-find a different hotel. The front desk staff is completely indifferent to any problems we encountered and then when I got my credit card bill-I was double charged. When I called, they treated me with disrespect, but finally agreed to refund my credit card. They did NOT credit me back the full amount and would not return my calls. Our room was suppose to have 2 queen beds, but instead had 2 double beds. The chair was broken and our friend in the next room couldn't get back into his room the next morning because the key card no longer worked.

The first night I got there I was badly bitten up by fleas from the last guest and there dog. The rooms stink and the quests look very questionable. I think it's a welfare hotel personally. Oh and the maid will knock repeatedly on your door 2 hours before check out for absolutely nothing. DO NOT STAY HERE.

Convenient location, very comfortable bed and room. Disappointing breakfast. Rooms are well sized and clean. Even had microwave and small fridge that I did not expect. The only thing that annoyed me was the breakfast. The juice machine was not working properly and the bagels were almost frozen.

The hotel was listed as a recommended hotel for a marathon we were running in the area and based upon the Orbitz rating we selected it. When we got into the room, we quickly noted that we didn't have the king bed we had paid for but two queen sized beds (if not double beds). We also asked for an extended check out because of the marathon and we had asked for 1-2PM we were given noon, which wouldn't have given us enough time to finish the race and get back to the hotel. So based upon this we did not get the chance to shower after our very muddy race, bummer. Lastly, the room next door to us had a very racous party that began about 11pm and at 1:30 we called the office to complain. At that time the radio or television was turned down but they were still very loud until after 3:30am. To get to our race we had to get up at 4:30am! Not the restful night we had hoped for before a big run!
