Drove to Chicago so parking was a big issue. This is one of the few hotels that has it's own parking area. The buildings made me think of apartmets, you had to go through the door to get to the hallway to reach your room. The doors tended to be a little loud when they shut. The bed was very comfy, the room was clean and the staff was quite friendly and helpful. The theatre was only a short bus ride down the street and the following day, the walk to Michigan Ave for shopping was only about 5 blocks away so this was a wonderful centrally located hotel. I will definitely be recommending it to friends when they go to Chicago.

I liked the location and free parking. Loud residents returning at three in the morning talking loud and slamming doors. They were very disruptive. structure. I liked the hotel location but I had a rickley table in my room, however the service is great.

The hotel was old and the room looked old and dirty. The mattress was very uncomfortable. The springs could be felt. Also, the box spring was very dirty. The sheets were old and the top sheet had a hole and partly unstiched. The toilet had a leak at the back every time it was flushed. The paint was coming off the sink side towards the shower. The entire hotel could certainly use a complete remodeling. The hotel restaurant was okay and the breakfast and the service was good.

The beds weren't that great, the curtains were hanging down and not completely on the rods, there were bugs of some kind in the bathroom, the carpeting was dirty. The location is great near to a lot of places and things to do. The price was too much for the quality.

Were extremely accommodating when we had car trouble on the morning of our checkout. Nothing. We had a slight emergency in the evening and to go to our daughters college across town. We were concerned that we would not have a parking spot when we returned, but they made sure we did! The next morning we discovered our car's power steering hose had broken. We had to wait for friends from the suburbs to bring tools and the needed parts for repair. That took a while, and then we had to repair it! The hotel staff allowed us to stay in our room until the car was fixed! What wonderful people! I plan on staying with them again, as our daughter still has 3 more years of school!

Get there early to get a parking spot, but not too early because they do not check people in before the scheduled check-in time. No exceptions. There are 70 rooms and 40 parking spots. The hotel is easy to find off of the interstate, but it's hard to get back on the interstate. Also, bring your own pillow, unless you prefer lumpy, hard pillows.

Having read some bad reviews of this motel, I feared the worst. I was, however, pleasantly surprised. My room was very clean, even though the furnishings were old. I especially liked the bed and the shower. It was great to have the small refrigerator, which I hadn't even asked for. The restaurant at the motel was so-so, but still adequate for a busy traveler. I liked having the parking lot, which seemed to be a safe place for my car.

It was just fine for a one night stay and was just a quick cab ride to the concert venue. It would be nice if it had a few more parking spaces. This hotel was just fine for a one night stay. It was a quick cab ride to the concert venue and the staff was friendly and helpful. We got a free place to park but you better get there early as there is not enough parking spaces for the number of rooms they have.

No heat in room upon arrival (-3 outside). Took about 6 hrs. for room to heat up. Mattress very old -- no sleep for us!

Was at a conference around the corner at Access for Living. Reserved an accessible room. They have none as REQUIRED by law. The lobby was inaccessible with a 8 inch step - I shouted through the door from the street to tell them what I wanted and my son held the door open and handed me the paperwork I needed to sign. They did not even have the courtesy to come to the door to speak to me. The rooms are enormous and perfectly capable of being accessible, but had an extremely low toilet and no grab bars. The bathtub was inaccessible. The sink was outside the bathroom and was accessible. They had two queen size beds and still plenty of room to roll around. The room was reasonably clean, but old and dated. Convenient but not worth the hassle for more than an overnight - I skipped taking a shower!

The location was perfect. The bed was awful, the worst ever. The location was good because we were there for New Years Eve and our club was close, but the bed was the most uncomfortable thing I have ever slept on.

The staff at this Howard Johnson were great! They were very nice and friendly. The hotel felt very safe. You had to have a key to even get into the building. Their was a security guard at night and the parking lot was gated and had cameras. The rooms were clean and nice. We had a problem with our shower working at first, but the staff just put us in a diffierent room and it was no problem. The location is great! We were really close to lots of restaurants and a bus to downtown went right behind the building. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Our room was not ready for us at the check in time. The carpet was very dirty and the room was very smokey smelling, even our clothes smelled smokey from being in the room.

Friendliness of people. It is a motel type of hotel. The best thing is the free parking, since no other hotel in the area offers this and its around $26 per day in every hotel. The localization is great!

I HAD A SURPRISE BIRTHDAY TRIP TO CHICAGO TO SEE THE COLOR PURPLE & STAY @ HOJO...THE HOTEL WAS TERIBBLE IT LOOKS LIKE A CHEAP MOTEL ITS UGLY IT LOOKS NOTHING LIKE YOUR WEB SITE WHICH TO ME IS DECEIVING ESPECIALLY THIS BEING MY 1ST TRIP TO CHICAGO! I HAVE ALWAYS KNOWN THE REPUTATION OF HOWARD JOHNSON AS BEING CLASSY AND CLEAN I NOW HAVE A NEW WAY I LOOK @ HOWARD JOHNSON HOTELS NOW!! I WORK IN THE MEDICAL CENTER IN HOUSTON,TX AND REFER PATIENTS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD TO LOCAL HOTELS HERE I HAVE TAKEN HOJO OFF MY PREFERRED LIST OF HOTELS IN THE HOUSTON MEDICAL CENTER AREA! WHEN WE DROVE UP TO HOJO I SAID THIS MUST BE A MISTAKE I HAVE NEVER SEEN A HOJO IN THAT CONDITION IN MY LIFE! tHE MANAGER/OWNER CANCELLED OUR RESERVATION HOWEVER NOT BEFORE WE MADE A PHONE CALL TO ORBIT. THE PICTURES ONLINE NEED TO BE UPDATED OR TAKEN OFF ITS A LIE!!!WE LOOKED @ A ROOM IT WAS MUSTY AND HAD AN AWFUL SMELL AS YOU ENTERED THE HALL WAY AND YOU HAVE THE NERVE TO CHARGE * FOR THOSE ROOMS THATS RIDICULIOUS AND A RIP OFF!!!!I WOULD HAVE RATHER STAYED IN A MOTEL 6 OR SUPER 8 WHICH LOOK BETTER THAN THAT HOJO! WE CHOSE THAT LOCATION BECAUSE OF THE CONVENIENT LOCATION TO EVERYTHING DOWNTOWN AND IT WAS CLOSE TO WHERE THE COLOR PURPLE WAS PLAYING! SO AFTER ALL THIS DISAPPOINTMENT WE HAD TO FIND ANOTHER HOTEL AND PAY MORE MONEY BECAUSE IT WAS A WALK-IN LATE CHECK IN....AFTER REVIEWING YOUR OVERVIEW I PRINTED STATES THIS HOTEL RECEIVED A QUALITY EXCELLENCE PRESIDENT AWARD WHAT YEAR WAS THIIS I FELT AS THOUGH WE WERE GIVEN FALSE INFO W/THE..CON'T

The Howard Johnson Inn in chicago was in a very nice location. A lot of restaurants nearby and the train to downtown is only a few minutes away. Commuting was easy so I had no problem even if i didnt have a car. The place was ok. I got lucky coz they put me in a suite, even if i paid for a standard room. The only downside for me was that they didnt have wireless internet that is accessible in the rooms...you can only get it in the area where you check in. The cafe isnt open in the evening too. But then again, why would i want to eat there when theres so much better places to eat. Definitely, I wouldnt mind staying here again.

I went back into time about 1960 with this hotel. If you are looking for a hotel with modern convieneces this is not the place. It has a bed and a bathroom if that's all you need.Wish I would have spent the extra money on a newer hotel closer to Michigan Ave.

the first night our room was over the street with a night club --very noisy in the middle of the night--asked to move and they did--so the second night we only got woken once when the dumpster was emptied. the beds were entirely worn out, flat and hard. the rooms were clean but the carpets were stained thruout the motel.

Nothing. Dirty, no hot water, tub plugged, security guard asleep.
