We were early so room wasn't ready upon check-in. Front desk clerk very helpful in storing luggage behind desk for 5-hours! Had to ride city bus to downtown Victoria, room too far to walk. Also, the location and area run down or in process of renovation. Didn't feel safe on street. For the price, you shouldn't have to ride the city bus! And, no shuttle to airport! Taking a cab was stressful as the cabbie was nuts!

Thecost was great and the rooms were clean. I wish the pool was a little more heated. It was a great place to stay. I'd recommend it. Rooms were clean and there was no smell of smoke. You can't ask for better for this cost.

We picked this hotel based on cost but it was not at all worth it. The rooms are small and just seemed run down. The property does not give off the feel of security at all..there are signs everywhere advising to watch for people in the dark/hidden parking lot, locking doors, reporting anyone that "looks" like they don't belong, etc. We had dinner at the restaurant only to be ignored because their was a conference group there which was much more important to the single two waitresses available. Even after the conference group left, the waitresses were more interested in setting up for thier breakfast then serving us...correcting orders or refills.

Front desk staff was nice. Resturant overpriced, hostess apathetic. The hotel is dated, wallpaper pealing off, no fridge, no ice-maker on our floor. Room air conditioner loud. Lots of kids in the pool. Front desk staff was friendly. It is too far from down town, you would need a bus or car. I think the price is too high for the facility. The staff tries hard to keep the place clean because it is old. No view, no free breakfast. TV works fine.

Our room was so stuffy and smelled so badly of mold. If you looked on the ceiling in the bathroom you could see all the mold. The walls were cracked and the floors were dirty. The carpet was stained so badly that I refused to take my shoes off.We made 3 (one minute long) long distance calls and were charged almost 20 dollars. There was a pub in the main lobby that was so loud and rowdy that you didnt feel safe. We werent gauranteed a parking spot when we came back because of the pub customers.Upon check out the lady at the front was so rude to us that I would have to say she just completely turned us off of ever staying there again on top of all the other things. I had to wash all my clean clothes from my suitcase cause they all smelled like that dump.

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I liked this hotel. Extremely friendly staff, went out of their way as far as service. The restaurant had some good deals, not high end, but convenient. Laundry and parking good, parking good and easy in/out. The room was excellent and offer free movies!

This place is old. When I first walked in, the musty room smell almost knocked me over. My asthmatic daughter reached for her inhailer several times. Despite Triple A requirements for smoke detectors, (or fire extinguishers) in every room, this room had no detector and the extinguisher gauge was on empty. I was affraid to try the air conditioner, for mold to be blown into the room. This place was not worth the money. In the US, I've paid less and received better service and better rooms. I must have been really tired when I booked this place ahead on line.

Price was ok. Close to the town center. Internet access was a pain, I was not able to access. No one in staff could help about internet access. Bed sheets and pillow cases stink. Looked like it was recycled from last customer.

City Centre Hotel Howard JohnsonStayed with my sons Hockey Team and the rooms were huge and some had kitchens. Even my wife who is fussy was happy and my sons team won!

Location was good, room was big. Air did not work andnot very friendly. The room was very big but the hotel needs to be refurbished. The unit air conditioner was totally ineffective. The food in the restaurant was quite good but don't get in a hurry. The service was terrible.

They advertised a swimming pool, it was not open until further notice. We had to call the manager because of noisethat went on for over 30 minutes. I would not stay inthis hotel again.

The beds/mattresses were fantastic! Not as close to downtown as I thought. Helpful employees, great food andwonderful beds.

Clean, friendly people and good service. Having to ask for extra shampoo on the 2nd day (no refills). Just off the main roads of Victoria. The Howard Johnson is clean, well-maintained, and charming. With free internet and computer access for guests and friendly staff who are more than happy to give excellent local restaurant recommendations, I would certainly stay there again.

Location. Very disappointed in the overall performance of this hotel. From the room not being what I asked for, to the very shoddy housekeeping, missing supplies (towels, coffee, soap etc.). Would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Spacy room. Remote from downtown victoria core, old and worn interior. Is not suitable for anybody without the car. Too pricey for such a remote location, and too pricey for long stay.

Staff friendliness/helpfulness were leading features. Comfortable, quiet location. Feels and looks old, but offers sufficient comfort. Highly friendly, helpful staff.

Convenient location, adequately equipped kitchen, good shower. Patio area off the room was unkept. This hotel provides all the basics and is good value for money.

Staff was friendly and helpful. Room was old and worn, not very clean. Cheap, but not very clean. Rooms are old and worn out.

Spaciousness, cleanliness and kitchen components was quite exceptional. Hard time to find something to complain about. Staffwas very pleasant, accommodations were very good. Weather was perfect. Have been coming to Victoria for a number of years and never stayed at the Howard Johnson Hotel on the Gorge before. That was a mistake. Our stay was very pleasant and will definitely stay here again on our next trip to Victoria.
