The location was prime, however the motel was pretty rundown. Once inside, the room was clean. The pool was unuseable due to the garbage floating in it. The place needs a little TLC.

I checked out one day early for which I would like to be reimbursed. Hotel under construction, bedside lights did not work, TV did not work. Room smelled like an outside toilet. Hotel under construction. Rooms smelled like sewer. TV not working. Bedbugs in room. Coffee pot had broken spout. Blanket smelled bad. Bad neighborhood. It should be illegal to advertise this place as a hotel. You should be ashamed of your company selling or giving the rooms in this place to any unsuspecting person.

My daughter and I turned around at the sight of this messy, dirty place. The neighborhood is OK but mostly RR tracks and a 6 lane highway roaring outside the window. We forfeited our non-refundable reservation when we saw missing doors to the rooms and filthy mattresses hanging out to dry. Go elsewhere, please.

The entire perimeter of the motel smelled of URINE. This property could benefit from a good power washing of the walkways and stairs. I held my breath every time I walked from my car to my room. My floor had obvious trash, indicating it had not been vacuumed prior to my arrival. The table had a pink sticky residue on it and the sink area also had some type of residue. I wiped down surfaces with anti-bacterial solution. The entrance could use a couple of flower pots --it would have been somewhat welcoming. The lobby (such as it was) could use brighter light. It was like walking into a bail bonds office conducting business with the staff behind dirty plexi-glass. The food area surfaces and floor were dirty. Even at */night, I have stayed at other hotels that made a greater impression with a little attention to detail. This experience has clouded my judgement of all Howard Johnson properties.

The hotel could have offered transportation service. We toured the area like the White House, State Capital, Washingtion Memorial, Library of Congress, and the down town area. The outside decor was horrible along with the smell in the front lobby. They were doing renavation outside.

Cheap. Poor part of town, curtain rod not properly attached to shower. Not leaving coffee, last night we were checking out. Called hotel office about annoying calls about 11 pm and there was no answer, after several attempts.

The carpet had been shampooed that day and it was soaking wet. Questionable characters hanging around. did not feel safe.

The Howard Johnson Express is ok for a weekend trip not for longer than that. The bathrooms were clean but the breakfast food could have been better and the presentation of it. Housekeepers did come and clean the rooms on a regular basis. The outside of the hotel needs a change. Outside appearence does matter.

Breakfast. Bad location, room's basic amenities damaged. It's cheap. If you're going there just to sleep it's fine, perhaps as a business traveler. Otherwise, it seems to be in a somewhat rough neighborhood. I ended up taking cabs to and from the city instead of opting to walk to the train a few blocks away, which ended up being more expensive, but ultimately safer. The room was okay. I had a smoking room that had burn marks on the toilet and tub, which was pretty bad. However, again, if you're up early and in late (as I was) it's not the worst thing. Lastly, starting at 5am you can hear the train come through every 15 minutes.

This hotel is not in a good neighborhood. It was very evident that it was not for family use. Found another hotel.

It was the close to the venue in which I was performing. It was dirty, nothing worked very well. I did not at all like this hotel and I do not know if I would ever consider staying in another Howard Johnson because of my poor experience.

the staff was friendly but the bullet proof glass was very impersonal. unfortunately we did not know the neighborhood we selected. the light over the sink did not work.

Good breakfast selections. Too far from food & transportation. It was what I expected for a motel. Think the cost was not equal to value given. Room looked newer but still had some repairs not completed and carpet had stains. Never was able to get the phone message erased. Way too far from restaurants and local transportation, 1/2 mile to either. Not the best part of town.

It was awful I was scared to wear my jewelry outside period. I laid my childs bracelet on the bed house keeping came thru and apparently took it to laundry and it was never returned to me my room was half cleaned. My stay there was a total several day nite mare I was happy as could be when check-out time came, If I could've left that ghetto fuction and wouldn't have been charged to my credit card I would have checked right back out. Huh the room smelled awful, good thing I brought my own air freshner. the smell of smoke was embedded in the walls as well as the curtains.

The location. The outside is in very bad need of upgrading. While the location is good, the "smoking" room was very bad( Burn marks, odor etc) We were moved to a non smoking room which was much better. My wife wanted to change hotels. I phoned the numbers, went through TWO operators and was told that I would be contacted on Monday for a credit and never heard anything all week.

The Howard Johnson at 600 New York Ave NE was a nice moderate rate hotel. The room was clean and well kept. If there is a downside it was that there was no shuttle service to the nearest Metro Station. Clients who don't come by car are at a disadvantage. The walk from the Florida Ave Metro station isn't too far for most people but for a family with young children or the elderly it can be somewhat daunting. The first portion is up a fairly steep hill and there is no side walk over the last section. Also, it is important to walk on the left side of the street going to and from the hotel, because there is no crosswalk on New York Ave after Florida Ave and the traffic is very heavy. Other than how to get to the hotel if you're not in a car, everything else was very nice.

The manager was helpful and friendly. The distance from the Union Station. Not a bad deal for travel on a budget.
