Our stay at the Howard Johnson in Effingham, IL was the lowlight of our trip. We traveled from Columbus, OH to St. Louis, MO; Sullivan, MO; Memphis, TN; Jonesboro, AR; and Jackson, TN. Our trip involved several hotels, but none were more disappointing than the HoJo. The condition of the property was poor, and there was an odd odor in the hotel room. Once we checked-in to our room, it took about an hour to cool the temperature to a comfortable level. The following morning I attempted to use the free WiFi network, but I could only remain connect for a few minutes at a time before the connect would drop even from the lobby. This was frustrating, because I needed to send a Word document and could not stay connect long enough for it to complete. Thankfully, this was only an overnight along our stay, or I would have immediately asked to be walked to another hotel. The ?salt in the wound? was that I chose the Howard Johnson (a recognizable name) over a locally own hotel next door that looked much cleaner and professional. This HoJo needs work!

The Howard Johnson Express in Effingham was perfect for our needs. It is conveniently located right off the expressway. We were visiting family in the area & just needed a comfortable place to stay for one night. The room was larger than expected & the hotel manager was friendly when checking us in. There are a couple of restaurants within walking distance. The outside of the hotel/landscaping could use a facelift, in my opinion, but don't let that steer you away.

The beds were comfortable and clean. The pool had way too much chlorine! Lots more choices for the free breakfast than we expected, although the coffee was terrible. The room was smaller than we expected, but the beds were clean and comfortable.

Location, price, name all good - booked two rooms online. Outside you see curtains hanging from rods in several windows, screens broken. Lobby dark & dingy. Aroma of curry overwhelming. Hallways dark. Outside remote back door open to any - no security. Rooms were dirty. Both rooms had strong smell of mold and curry. Greasy slime on sink and bathroom counter in one room. Hair on bathroom floor. Ugh! We checked out IMMEDIATELY demanded our money back. Just a HORRIBLE experience - even for the few minutes we were in one room trying to find another hotel.

Not much. The beds were hard and the room rate was not good. Their free movies were older than the hills--their beds were really hard and we couldn't get the temp cooled down--plus someone had turned down the temp in the pool so that it could not be used.

I was happy they had a pool and they accepted my pet. The room was nice and clean and they were really excellent about my pet

Overall it seemed rather shabby. Seemed shabby and run down, although the rooms themselves weren't too bad. Breakfast buffet not first-rate. I wouldn't stay here again.

Easy to find. Check in appeared to be incontinent. Reprint of my credit card. No other hotels need. Deluxe breakfast was not up to my expectation. It was a short and sweet good bye. Don¿t advertise breakfast if you cannot be the same as a la quintal.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. They went above and beyond! The pool area wasn't very clean at all.

It was in the town I wanted to stay in. It was just "barely" suitable. I will never stay in a Howard Johnson's again.
