Still rocking from the experience! We booked this as a novelty to mark the end of two years of studying for our doctorate ie we thought we needed a treat and were pretty skint (another hard year left to do). This was such a great experience I would definately do it again and highly recomend it. Forget the novelty its a great way to stay in the centre of the city. I anticipated that it might be scary to sleep on a canal - its not. there are other boats right near you and its well lit. I thought it might be a pain to get from the car - it was not. The directions provided were superb, there are parking spaces within 200 yards of the boat. The canalside shower is hot and safe. The beds are very comfortable and just about everything that you need for a relaxed evening is provided. We really enjoyed our stay and the rocking sensation ceases within a day!

Ruby was exceptional. It was so much better than staying in a hotel and would recommend it to anyone.

A fun place to be - a haven in busy Sheffield!A novel way to spend a few days - a lovely boat. Bit of a tight squeeze in places! We found it had everything we needed but would probably not choose to stay in a heatwave in future and then leave in heavy rain!!! Fortunately parking is close by. Beds were very comfortable, seating area was good and kitchen facilities very adequate. Shower was nice and constant hot water. Would highly recommend - but only share with people you know really well!! A good find for our few days 'holiday' in Sheffield.

business/leisure trip to Sheffield staying aboard RubyHAd a meeting to go to, and as it was my birthday decided to stay for an extra night - glad we did. Ruby was fantastic. Its a shame that the area its morred in is a little down at heel, but the boat itself more than made up for it. very friendly boat owning neighbour too - popped his head round the door to say hello.Wish there had been a shop nearby so we could buy water - we weren't well prepared for it and even after boiling the coffee tasted funny. Will definately stay again and will be recommending it to work colleagues who also travel alot

Such a change from the ordinary hotel or b&b. Would come back to Ruby any time. Our weekend was a much more pleasant experience. Staying on Ruby was great fun and much better than the usual accommodation.

A great alternative to a Sheffield hotelBooked this as an alternative to going out for a anniversary meal (made dinner on the boat along with Champagne). Fantastic service, with email from owner with detailed instructions and a follow up call to make sure everything was ok with the instructions.Boats have a combination padlock and you get a text message from the owner early on the day of arrival. Boat has all the equipment you'd expect, tv, dvd player, cd player, comfy seats, little table for two, small cooker, fridge with freezer compartment, etc etc...Clean and tidy, but don't expect a 4 star hotel ... toilet is effectively in the corridor along with the shower (which was surprising good). Bed is a small double, but big enough. Can get a bit stuffy so would recommend opening all the windows to let some air though when you arrive. There is a carpark right next to the boat - you are left with one token for your day of departure, otherwise it's £3 each time you leave the carpark (3 £1 coins required).Overall I thought it was a fantastic change to a city hotel and would really recommend!

Fantastic, quirky accommodation! We stayed on Ruby as a treat to my boyfriend on his 30th birthday, and we had a FANTASTIC time. Having lived in Sheffield previously, we wanted a hotel that was close to the centre, but quiet and relaxing - and this ticked every box! Ruby is fantastically well equipped, spotlessly clean and in a fantastic location. We will definitely be staying here again!

A quiet retreat in the cityThese houseboats are very cute! It's nice to be away from the hustle & bustle usually associated with staying in a city. It is also unusual to find self-catering accomodation available for just a night for a single person - I'll definitely stay again. The only drawback was the chemical toilet, which just couldn't handle the effects of my tummy bug :-/

Delightful accommodation in a tranquil location yet so close to the City centre. A refreshing change from the standard hotel room and very well-laid out. Some delightful welcoming touches with opera playing on entry, a small decanter of portand wine in the fridge. Absolute bonus to be able to have temporary membeship of the Hilton Leisure Club. A swim before breakfast after a restful night on the water made a great start to the day. Can't think we would ever want to stay anywhere else in Sheffield.

The house boat makes for a unique experience in Sheffield and refreshing alternative to the faceless budget/mid price business traveller hotels. On a cold and windy night it provides a cosy welcoming feel with the bed nestling in the bow section of the boat. Travellers should book this in the knowledge that you are staying in a house boat and therefore expect things to be a bit different to staying in a building. Facilities and furnishings are clean and simple and being a boat obviously space is at a premium so don't expect loads of luggage or wardrobe room but if you seek a comfortable night's sleep listening to the water gently lapping against the boat then this is for you.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay on the house boat Ruby! It was a totally new and unique way to take a break and we found it very relaxing and comfortable. It was a lot more cosy than we'd expected, as it was winter and we thought the boat might be a bit drafty, but not at all. Plus it was so peaceful and quiet. We thought it was great value for money as it's like having your own self contained flat so were able to cook up a lovely breakfast which we shared with the ducks on the river. Where else can you get an opportunity like that?! And having the use of the Hilton Hotel's leisure facilities was an added bonus! A real find and we will definately recommend it to friends and hope to stay there again one day!

This barge certainly wasnt 4*, with the facilities including a standard 14inch TV and a VHS player. The matress wasnt the best and the shower spluttered out water in the morning before repeatadely falling off its holder. Finally the process in how to flush the toilet left a blister on my thumb. For the money paid there are certainly better beds in Sheffield. I understand the niche factor of the accomodation but based on facilities this was not 4*.
