The HdV chain has definitely declined in quality as it's expanded but it does offer some real luxury for the price (assuming you're not paying the rack rate). This one in York is not one of the best but it's v new and clean and quiet and overall, for the £99 rate I payed, it was outstanding. There was just one huge problem... The breakfast. This may not be important to some but if it is to you, beware! It is barely a step up from a Holiday Inn Express buffet. A few cereals, terrible bruised fruit, a fruit salad that had clearly been made a day or two before and cardboard like pastries. I tried ordering a cappuccino 3 times, each was worse than the last.So... Stay there but go out fir breakfast I guess!

nice hotel but..Hotel has smart appearance and staff polite on arrival. However room very small for more than a weekend stay - and disappointed to find we had to pay an extra £10 to park our car there after already paying overpriced amount for room! After getting home we were sent a 'receipt' for monies debited from our account - TWICE the amount we owed - to find we had been billed for someone elses meals, wine and service charge...not a good way to encourage repeat business.

The accommodation was fabulous. The room was lovely and sumptuous with an excellent attention to detail and an absolute pleasure to stay in. The hotel itself was great and the bar was really cool and a great place to sit up at enjoy a few drinks in the evening. Despite reading some bad reviews about the food at the bistro on trip advisor four of us dined there and the food was excellent, service friendly with a good atmosphere. We would definately stay there again and recommend it to anyone coming ot York for the weekend

short breakevery thing was excellent appart from the breakfast, which to say that is billed as a full english breakfast at £13.95 consisted of eggs half a tomatoe that had barely been shown the grill, a saugage which ok and bacon. obviously the frech take on a full english. Also the only bread available was some sliced "toast" which again had only been shown the grill at a distance. Most dissapointing and poor value.

ImpressedWhilst I could not fault the hotel service or quality I would comment that I only paid £85 for a Tue night. and felt that the size of the room would have been too small had I paid the more normal £140.

Great place for a York weekend breakGreat room, very helpful staff and top notch food in the restaurant. If you're thinking of a weeksnd break in York, you could do a lot worse than stay here. The only slight drawback being that if you decide to walk into town for a few drinks, you pass a lot of scuzzy pubs on Micklegate before you get to the decent bars.

Nice Hotel - good but not exceptionalThe Hotel is conveniently situated near the city centre. Our room was very nicely furnished but very small. The staff were all helpful and courteous and the food in the hotel restaurant was superb, slightly let down by being served coffee which had been plunged before it was ready. The only drawbacks were we were overcharged for our second nights accomodation by £60 which we luckily noticed, and also were charged for an extra bottle of wine for our meal, which we also noticed. Overall though a very nice hotel, not as impressive as we were expecting, but good value at the reduced rate.

Lovely hotelThe room decor was sumptious and luxurious. The hotel staff were very friendly, helpful and curteous. One slight negative - despite twice asking staff, we still did not have a remote for the tv in our room. Only on checkout did we receive an apology for this - not quite the standard I would expect from a £150 per night hotel! However, I must say that they did provide a complimentary bottle of champagne to celebrate my girlfriend's 30th birthday, which was much appreciated. All in all, it was a very lovely stay.....

Hotel du vinExcellent hotel, great location and great room. My girlfriend loved staying there as it was such a stylish hotel. Food was also great, they were doing a good deal where you get 2 courses and some wine for 2 people for £29 - bargain!!

The room that we stayed in was lovely.. Very clean throughout with nice toiletries in the bathroom which they said in the welcome book to take home which we thought was a nice touch. Close to York, just a 10 min stroll which is enjoyable in itself. Would definitely stay at a Hotel du Vin again! Just check the barman does not try to charge you for a double when you had a single!

Good, but not the best in the chainWe stayed in Hotel du Vin York for our first wedding anniversary. We've stayed at 4 HdVs now and I've got to say this isn't the best. Despite prices being the same (accomodation, food, drink) as the others (i.e. not cheap), it doesn't have the same degree of standard. For instance, our rooms were nothing special. 'Special' is what you expect from HdV. Alas the room we stayed in - which I think was typical given the floor plan - was small and a little cramped.Breakfast in particular was disappointing - hardly any choice and we had to keep asking the waiter for food, milk, etc. Although polite, it's not really the level of service you'd expect.Don't get me wrong - it's still a good hotel, just that, having compared with others (Harrogate, Cheltenham, Glasgow), it wasn't quite as good.If you want to go to York, it's a good bet. If you just want to go to any HdV, choose another in the chain.

A Great City Break ExperienceWe have stayed in the Hotel Du Vin in Harrogate, and again in Edinburgh. Our stay in York lived up to our expectations. The rooms are modern, clean and have great facilities. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The atmosphere in the Bistro was both romantic and relaxed, and the food was absoulately fantastic. It proved to be a great place to relax in the evening after a busy day shopping in York. The location was perfect; only a 5 minute stroll to Micklegate Bar. We will definately be returning.

Hotel Du VinSmart, chic and unique hotel in York. A bit of a walk up Micklegate out of town, but a lovely room and a modern, yet cosy, feel to the hotel. Not particularly interesting looking from the outside, but certainly makes up for it on the inside!

Could be betterVery small room with unfortunate drain smell.Restaurant service was poor with over 1 hour wait between courses for dinner. Breakfast also involved a longer wait than necessary.I would only stay here again if I was allocated a different room.

Too expensive for what it offersLovely accommodation; mostly good service; clean rooms and certainly some nice thought in the details; but some things let it down. We ordered a full breakfast to be told there was no black pudding and no mushrooms. When it came it didn't seem worth £13 per head - not special. Also ordered a large glass of wine from the bar and was shocked later to find out it was £11.45 - for one glass. Nice wine but bank breaking!

High quality HotelVery clean, very pleasant, delicious breakfast, high quality furnishings. A little clinical in appearance, but overall strikes a nice balance between character and modern comforts. Room was a little small. Good place really. Best for a business stay probably.

Hotel du Vin, YorkWithout a doubt, one of the finest hotels at which I've ever stayed. The staff were excellent, friendly and courteous. The bed was very comfortable and the quality of the furniture in the room was excellent. The bar was relaxed and had a fantastic range of drinks.
