Very nice room although it was quite smaller than expected. Excellent breakfast. Great location!

staff was very friendly and accommodating. Hotel was very clean and comfortable. No complaints. Most of the rooms have been redone, nostalgic Victorian style rooms with marble bathrooms. Rooms seemed to be somewhat small, but for what they gave up in size, they put into the quality of the furniture, bed linens, and bath.

Crimially Overated. Arrived when it was raining. Valet staff waved cars away from new entrance and said parking was down the street. Parked and walked with luggage two blocks in rain. No bell staff. Then they had given the room I reserved away so they put me in a lower class room at same price! They said they had no other rooms. It took disussions with three different people and about an hour of arguing to get a small reduction in rates. If the area hadn't been full up i would have moved. Got to room it wasn't clean, and cleaning staff never showed despite promises from front desk. Then to top it all off, my car was towed because it didn't have a valet tag even though it had a parking pass from the hotel on the front dash. Staff acted as if I was unreasonable for being upset. Their refrain , which I must of heard a dozen times, was "Everybody makes mistakes". Well I sure did.

The bellmen (valet service) was excellent. I would stay here again just because of the great service they provided. The place was clean but they don't seem to understand how important coffee is to guests. They provide free coffee but one morning all they had out was decaf? Pool was nice. Be warned though, most rooms seem to be in the motor lodge section rather than a historic hotel. They seem to pack them into this section which might be why they can offer low prices. The rooms were clean and nicely appointed. This might be the only hotel in Newport within walking distance to the shops, the Breakers, and the cliff walk.

Ambiance, location, historical place, friendly & helpful staff. Weird bathroom set up, pool maintenance, steep parking fees.

My friend and I loved this hotel. Its located in an ideal area, just a few minute walk to the harbor front, restaurants, tennis hall of fame, and mansions. The rooms are beautifully decorated with antiques, it really felt like we were staying in one of the mansions that Newport is so famous for. The front desk staff couldn't have been nicer or more helpful.

The hotel is in a great location in Newport. It is very central to all of the sights of the area. It is a beautiful well kept building with very good amenities. The front desk staff is very helpful and friendly to boot. I have only a few negative comments. The rooms are a bit noisy due to ease of hearing other guests. Also, the restaurant staff when I had breakfast in the hotel was not friendly at all. The food was also way not worth the price. All and all, it is an ok hotel. The price is a bit high for the quality of the place, but that kind of goes with the area.

We had a room with two queen beds. I was traveling with family and there were four of us in the room. Cost effective way to travel if you're going for just a couple of nights. Room was very clean. We requested a small fridge and it was in the room when we arrived. Bathroom very small, but very clean. No problems with noise. Beds very comfy. Went to the rooftop bar for a drink. Very nice. Every staff member we encountered was very friendly and helpful!

"Get-a-way weekend for parents of twins - 1st time w/out babies in 8 months! Beautiful historic hotel - rooms small but just right for 2 adults. Decor was lovely - fluffy bedding, lots of pillow - bathroom was spectacular with really cool sink and tiled shower. Only complaints - t.v. didn't always work & there was some noise from other rooms - thin walls? Loved that we could open the window on a warm winter weekend! Perfect location!!"

We only stayed for 1 night and we really didn't spend much time in the room. It was clean but a little noisy because we were next to the roof with the air/heating systems right outside our window. Service was great. Very professional The bathroom was really small the shower was great bigger than the other part of the bathroom. The sink was smaller than 1 on an airplane.

Excellent location. Hallways were strangely dank and dim.

Note that we've only stayed here off season so the summer experience may differ from ours. This is our 3rd year coming and we'll be back again! Wonderful old world hotel but with modern touchs. Great value. 5 star service from the staff (although we have noticed a small slip over our 3 years of visits in staff attitude). Fantastic food and wine. We love to park ourselves in the bar, watching a game and drink wine and eat some wonderful bar food (the fresh made potato chips are scrumptious!) Bedding is luxurious and very comfortable. Flat panel TVs and stylish marble baths (although ours was teeny, tiny; no counter space and a glass door that made night trips possibly disturbing to your sleeping companion) The spa is one of the best we've ever experienced. Worth the trip alone! They have Balianese as well as Thai massage that is hard to find elsewhere and superior to all. The indoor pool/whirlpool is wonderful and relaxing and well maintened. Couldn't ask for a better (and economical) romantic getaway!

Very impressed with every employee we interacted with - very friendly and helpful. Free parking across the street. Breakfast was excellent - buffet or off the menu. Lots of other dining options nearby.

We have two miniature schnauzers who travel with us when we visit my parents in Rhode Island for the holidays and this was the first time we've stayed at a pet friendly hotel on the island worth reviewing! I love the Viking because you can literally walk anywhere in downtown Newport from this hotel. Even if you just want Starbucks and a stroll around the city--this is the perfect spot! There is even a great park less than 5 minutes away for those before bed doggie walks. Newport is a very dog friendly city, and most parks have mutt mitts and trash cans in case your pup needs to do his or her thing! The older wing of the Viking now allows pets to stay--and more importantly they can stay In the room when you go out to dinner!! Anyone who travels with pets share my frustration when you check in and learn that your pets cannot be crated in your room if you are leaving the property. This really limits where you can go--especially if the weather is hot and leaving them in the car is not an option. The room was big enough for all of our Christmas gifts for my family, our luggage and the dogs, plus a giant crate for the dogs to sleep in when we were not in the room. My only complaint is that the toilet and sink were not near each other--so you had to open the bathroom door to wash your hands. BUT, it did come in handy when my husband had to shower and I needed to do my hair...no fog on the mirror! Room service on Christmas morning was on time and hot, a great treat since there isn't anything open that morning.

Pleasantly suprised at how beautiful and well kept the Hotel Viking is! Location wasn't the best. We had our kids with us and it had a great pool, hot tub and exercise room that we were all able to enjoy. The staff was very freindly and accomodating. The hotel is very well kept and seems like they try to keep it renovated.

I was taking a business related course being held at the Hotel Viking. I had two full days of class with a final exam at the end of day two. The first night I had to change suites due to the heat not functioning even with the thermostat set at 78 degress. At 3:00am I went to the front desk and asked for a new suite. I finally got settled in at 4:30am. Needless to say I never got back to sleep. Registration started at 7:30am. Day two the free internet in my room was not functioning. I paid $9.95 for wireless. I went to bed around 11:00pm. Woke up at 2:00am to a loud noise. I tried to get back to sleep thinking it was the heavy rain outside. Well, I couldn't sleep because of a steady noise. I got up to investigate only to find the the rain was leaking into my room from the roof above. Due to my lack of sleep I was in no mood to move to another suite in the middle of the night. Upon check out twice I received the wrong luggage. The course cost me $300.00 test results for the final exam will be available in approximately 6 weeks. If I fail the exam it will cost me an additional $300.00.

Hotel Viking was a very beautiful place to stay with all the nice amenities you can think of..from when you first walk in to the lobby and on to your room, very clean, spotless, and nicely decorated.. just one thing, plan to pay for parking ... $22.00 a day.. otherwise our stay was wonderful, will definitely go back again..
