The hotel has recently been renovated and has a great look. Everything is fresh and clean and it's in a great location.

Location to Berkeley campus. Cleanliness and upkeep. Rooms were dirty; ceiling in bathroom was falling down; no cold water in shower; no heat in room so was given a space heater. The room had 2 Twin beds. The hotel restaurant was closed for repairs. The lobby was pretty and the location to the campus and downtown Berkeley was great. If the hotel were maintained properly, it would have promise.

The location was great. It was close to a BART station and lots of restaurants. We were able to walk to the Greek Theater to enjoy a concert (the reason for our trip). However, I was dissapointed with the quality of the hotel. The carpet in the room had some black stains (some type of burn?). The skirting on the bed was dirty as well. The blinds were so dusty that when we opened them we created a dirt cloud. The windows didn't have screens. The tv had no remote. While taking a shower the water will go from super hot to perfect to super cold in a continous cycle the whole time. We had a hard time sleeping because we just had no idea if the bed was clean at all. We were safe the whole time but there was always a thought in the back of my mind that something bad could happen just because the appearance of the hotel was terrible.

If you want to be in the center of everything in Berkeley and have a big room and want to pay very little this place is for you. Yes the carpeting and fixtures need repair but who cares . I got a two room suite with an awesome view of SF for 60.00. It doesn't get better than that. Also right outside the door are great restaurants, clothes shopping and overnight covered parking is only 5.00.

The Shattuck was great because it's near everything in Berkeley - you can walk to the campus, Telegraph, etc. It is downtown tho, so you will get some homeless people. There were also a ton of hi school kids hanging out on the Friday aft. Also near Bart. Room was big. Water temp in shower kept changing. Also, one of the clerks was lame and wouldn't print out our boarding passes for us the night before we left. Had to go to a nearby Kinko's. Otherwise, good place for the money.

Carpet is stained, noise level is high (people, traffic, the BART). Continental breakfast=broken toaster, stale bread, institutional butter.Even the good location does not make it worth the money.
