The hotel itself is a wonderful place to visit. The front desk was very helpful when i had to replace a lost key. The food was fantastic and the Pine Room Pub had a great lounge. I especially enjoyed my conversations with the Valet guys. They were very nice and extremely knowledgeable about the surrounding area. I look forward to a future visit.

I took part in the massage facilities at the spa. The people there were extremely courteous and made the experience top notch. The in hotel restaurant was very overpriced, but a 4 minute walk over a bridge got me to down town with wonderful food and night life.

The hotel staff was very friendly. To charge $7 to park yourself was ridiculous. Outside of the parking, this hotel was awesome. My room was unavailable at check-in time, but the hotel staff put me in an executive suite. I've stayed in a lot of hotels across the country and the hotel staff is my top five.

Location is great! Good things include graet bed and pillows, nice bathroom with drawer storage space, nice sized room, free inroom coffee. Bad things include pay for self parking which is almost 2 blocks away--bad in inclement weather, pay for internet connection $11 a day, barely adequate water pressure in shower, and noise from hallways travels into rooms. Food is okay but $$.

I hosted a party at the hotel and stayed to ensure a safe evening. Living in Roanoke, I had been to the hotel several times, but never stayed. The experience was beautiful, especially with all the holiday decorations! The breakfast was fantastic! I would definitely stay here again.

Hotel Roanoke is a lovely piece of history....right along side the railroad tracks which necessitated its building. The sound of screeching train brakes at midnight was unnerving. The conversations from the hallway were audible enough as to seem to be in the room. So much effort has been made in renovations it's a shame better sound-proofing wasn't integrated. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful when I had to return the room key as it was for a room already occupied! The 'doorman', while functionally opening the doors were so deeply engrossed in their conversations, they continued their conversations over the top of the heads of entering guests.Both morning and evening shifts demonstrated this 'invisible guest' mode.

The history of the hotel. Have to leave. The staff was very friendly and helpful at the hotel. They knew the area very well and gave great directions and recommendations. They were also very knowledgeable about the hotels history.

Honestly, there aren't many upscale hotels to stay at in Roanoke. I have chosen this hotel by default for that very reason. I have family there and visit frequently. I have given this hotel 3 tries and each stay has been terrible. The first time we stayed around Christmas and while enjoying the decorated Christmas trees we watched a valet go through our vehicle for 15 minutes. Second visit consisted of poor customer service and confusion with our room. We didn't have hot water???? So our morning plans were delayed by hours until they finally switched us into a downgraded room??? I gave it a third try and the bartender at the overpriced bar charged us double what we drank and tried to play it off as "an honest mistake" but still made us pay because it "was in the system"...we only had two but paid for four...not the worst bill ever but dissapointing! I have never been in such a beautiful hotel with such poor customer service. They only get by on the lack of competition, location, and history of the hotel. The only thing that impresses me in the hotel is the furniture. Just make sure you watch the valet, your tab, and check the shower before your important meeting the next morning!

This is the second time in a row I have been unable to have a timely dinner at this hotel. The first time the main dinning room was closed for a private group. This last time when I tried to eat in the Pub the wait for a sandwich was 45 minutes and I was informed room service which at least had a decent menu was a 2 hour wait. The saving grace is that accross the overpass is a large selection of local restauarants.

Convenient with excellent facilities and service. Rooms were nothing special - rather sparse. This was my second visit to the Hotel Roanoke. The service and facilities are what drives the price because the accommodations are nothing special.

Hotel checks in was great. Jeans and shorts are inappropriate for hotel staff. We have stayed at this hotel many times in our life and were very pleased with the facility, however, the doorman had on shorts and no socks and the staff in the dining room for brunch had on baggy jeans and the service was terrible. Food was great but the way the staff was dressed was inappropriate for the hotel Roanoke.

This hotel has excellent restaurants and lounges and is within walking distance of downtown attractions. Easy to find and near Blue Ridge Pkway.

The blend of historic ambiance with modern touches. The hotel is beautiful and the conference center is one of the best. The kids brought along a play station, but the TV needed a converter from the hotel for $25. This hotel is a magnificent historical landmark located in a beautiful city. We felt completely safe and comfortable walking downtown during the late evening hours. The downtown is easily accessed from a skywalk over the railroad tracks. It is inspiring to be part of history and to stay and dine in a place where u.s. Presidents and celebrities have done the same. We particularly enjoyed the eclectic blend of the guests ranging from casually dressed travelers to those dressed in black tie and evening gowns attending events in the ballrooms. The seta sweet dreams mattress and down pillows made for a great sleep. I did notice some of the wallpaper near the vintage window panes coming loose. However, the far wing of the floor we stayed on was being renovated.

I thought everything was great. The best chocolate cake I have ever eaten. The food was well prepared and not overly seasoned. All the staff were very friendly and attentive. The rooms were decorated beautifully and were very comfortable. The valet parking was a great added touch. Will stay there again.

Great people at the front desk. The governor suite is ready for an update as is the lobby. Starting with the good: awesome location, beautiful hotel, decent accommodations and good dining. Onto the bad: I had hoped after 10 years that the hotel would have improved, but I can now see how it lost its 5 star rating. It's just not going anywhere. It's not only not improved, but seems to have gone down hill somewhat. The lobby looks trashy with cracks in the floor and just doesn't have a warm feeling to it. Even in the middle of the holiday. The governor suite could use bathroom renovations and just an overall update. In summary, instead of the hotel Roanoke feeling "classic" and/or "old-fashioned" it just felt old and outdated.

Great location, historic building, great beds, quick room service, very nice bar, fast car valet service. No dislikes! The place to stay in Roanoke. Luxury accommodations located within walking distance of all downtown amenities and restaurants. Beautifully decorated and appointed guest rooms, excellent for business or leisure travelers.

Architecture, history, amenities, location, access. No criticism. The history of this grand hotel and its present day restoration and maintenance are superb. It's proximity to the O. Winston Link museum, Virginia Transportation Museum, and related infrastructure are superior. Quality of service is without peer. Fine dining is rather elevated and may not be accessible by all guests, however, although the cuisine is certainly 4-5 star. This is a grand hotel.
