My wife and I spent part of our honeymoon in Barcelona and picked the Regencia Colon based primarily on its location, which after visiting, can't be beat. It is literally half a block from the Barcelona Cathedral, which is one of the major tourist stops and definitely worth seeing. It was also a short walk to The Ramblas and one block from 2 double decker tour bus stops. The room was decent sized and relatively clean. Nothing spectacular and nothing terrible - about what you'd expect for the price. The front desk was very helpful and spoke English fluently. The only thing negative I have to say is that there was a separate charge for Wi-Fi access and it was based in the hotel across the street, so we literally had to hang our laptop out the window to get a decent signal. Other than that, we enjoyed our stay at the hotel.

We arrived at hotel with proper paperwork. We were being sent to another hotel as they overbooked. Desk clerk and manager were very rude. They wanted my credit card for the new hotel but wouldn't give comformation that they were transferring me due to overbooking. They threatened to call police if I didn't comply! They took my paid reservation papers from online and wouldn't give them back. Luckily I had duplicates in my suitcase. I wanted them to acknowledge that the room was paid for and that they were transferring us due to them overbooking so I had some recourse should I be charged twice. They wouldn't do it. After 20 minutes they signed a paper for me but then they all but threw us out of the door. My daughter and I dragged all our luggage across the street ourselves. We ended up staying at the Colon Hotel. Older but nice looking. Desk clerks were better but not by much. All in all a bad experience. I've traveled extensively and have never had an experience like this.

This hotel is the 3 star "sister" hotel of the 4 star Hotel Colon. We've stayed in both and prefer this one. If you insist on a room over looking the Cathedral (which is covered in scaffolding) then stay at the Hotel Colon. If you don't want the view stay at the Hotel Regencia Colon and save some money on the room. Keep in mind some of the Colon rooms look out to the Regencia! From our room you could even see a corner of the Cathedral Square! Hotel was not offering breakfast so we walked up-the-block to the "local" coffee chain "Cappuccino". Skip Starbucks and have breakfast here with the locals. For dinner run -- don't walk -- to Neyras and eat in the tapas bar. Regencia Colon is right in the Gothic Quarter and within 3 or 4 winding blocks of Las Ramblas.

Fall out of your bed into the history of Barcelona. This hotel is a block from the main Cathedral, close to the Gothic distrist, Las Ramblas, and all things Barcelona. The staff are helpful, protective, and very friendly - they'll even let you practice bad spanish on them! Our bedroom was large as was the bathroom and they were well kept. Like many European hotels the queen and king beds really are 2 mattresses stuck together, so there's a slight divide - but we were usually too exhausted after touring to notice. This was the perfect way to get to meet Barcelona, in the heart of everything! Though away from the Ramblas and 2 blocks from a busy street there was still some street noise at night - no we weren't in Indiana any more. But it usually quieted down by midnight or so, and Sunday morning was as quiet as...being in church (including lots of bells pealing). The best part of our room was two huge windows that could be opened and allowed you to see some of the Cathedral and square if you leaned out a little.

We also depended on the reviews but were still leary. This truly is a gem. We were very happy to find a view of the cathedral out one of our windows, with a view of the plaza. We took a bus from the airport and walked to the hotel. This would have worked great but plan a head and do a map quest, as there are many tiny side streets and alleys. The location was great. The staff was very friendly, but don't bother calling down to the front desk for anything, they usually won't answer. That and the late night garbage trucks would be the only complaint. We would never stay any where else. This is a true gem.

Front desk personnel were very friendly, spoke excellent English, were very helpful on giving us tour information, etc. Great location! Easy to walk to shopping. Made taxi arrangements for us to get to the cruise ship terminal. Wish we had more time in Barcelona and we would stay here again.

The staff were very friendly, courteous and helpful. I would stay here again for tourism in Barcelona. The hotel does not have any irons to lend unfortunately, and it is very noisy at all hours due to its proximity to a major boulevard. However, it is a great place to stay if you want to vacation in Barcelona.

We stayed before getting on cruise ship. The staff were very friendly and willing to help. The location of this hotel is close to the cruise ship areas. I plan on taking another cruise next year and will use this hotel for our group.

We stayed at the hotel before taking cruise. The location was great and the room was well worth the value. I plan on staying again next year. Staff was friendly, room was large and the bathroom was very clean as was the whole room.

Hotel and service were very good. Unable to sleep with all the noise outside, it went on until 4-5AM each morning.

We had depended on the reviews here to help us narrow our hotel selection down, but were still leary about what we'd find upon arrival...What a relief to find a great little hotel in a fab area of town! We loved being a stone's throw from the Cathedral Gotic and just a few blocks from the Placa Catalunya and Las Ramblas! The shopping, dining, wandering and people-watching in this area is endless, and the Metro is easy to navigate from 2 close by stops that connect to 3 different lines. Our main focus is always on location, location, location, so this was perfect for us. As for the accomodations, our room was bright and roomy with all of the necessities readily available. The bathroom was great, there was a quiet elevator, and the staff was friendly. As for criticisms, the hotel still had central heat going, so we had to turn our unit off and open the balcony door to keep cool during a temperature spike. Also, I would recommend packing a hairdryer, as the one provided is not very effective and gets too hot to hold after a few minutes! Several reviewers commented on the loud street sounds, and while there were some, we were not bothered by it at all...perhaps we were just too exhausted every night, but we slept with our balcony door open every night, which faced the Plaza, and weren't bothered at all except for one late night garbage truck! Overall, a great spot- we'll stay again!

Excellent location, helpful staff. Unfortunately, in rooms on the lower floors received a lot of street noise. Also, it was not possible to adjust the room temp manually and since it was too noisy to leave the window open it got stuffy.

This hotel is located perfectly for the tourist/shopper. Close to almost everything you want to see and do in Barcelona. The subway is about a block away for longer trips. The walls were a little thin and the bed was a bit firm for my liking but the location vs price cannot be beat. The front desk staff was incredible in helping me after a pick pocket got my wallet. They let me use the desk phone to make necessary international calls to cancel credit cards free of charge. They were also very helpful in suggesting attractions and giving me directions. Their english was perfect as well. The rooms are clean and actually larger than I expected. If you want to be where the action is in Barcelona, you cannot beat this one. If you prefer luxury over price, you may not be happy with Regencia Colon. But, if you are looking for nice accomodations at about half the price of similar lodgings this is the one.

...you consider a hotel room only to be a place where you lay down your head at night. Our room was OK (clean but you can hear the street traffic) and the staff are courteous and very helpful. The strongest point is the hotel's location...it's ideally located for getting around town (right across the plaza from the cathedral and a <5 minute walk from the metro).

We only stayed here one night, but the staff was very friendly and helpful. They arranged to have a taxi there at 4:00 in the morning so we could get to the airport. We were able to check in early and our room was clean and comfortable. This hotel is in a great location, within walking distrance to many attractions. Bus tours can be easily picked up from this area and the hotel will provide tickets right there. The only problem is the noise from the street at night. If you are a light sleeper you might want to consider another hotel. We are not so it really didn't bother us. I would stay here again and would recommend this hotel.

"The hotel is right next to the Cathedral plaza and easy walking to the Gothic and Born districts and to bus and and subway transportation. The front desk is very helpful and they provided us directions to an internet 'cafe'. The only complaint we have is the noise, not so much from the garbage trucks in front, but from the adjoining room next door. The walls are so thin that you can hear their television, conversations, and toilet flushing as though you were sharing a room. "

"It is centrally located in the Gothic Old Town part of the city and is only a minute walk from the main Cathedral and plaza. Most things are in walking distance, ie. the Picasso Museum, Zoo and Arch de Triumph, Sagrada Familia, Las Ramblas and the Waterfront. It is also very metro accessible. At Placa de Catalunya (only a five minture walk north), there is an Aerobus that will drop you off or take you to the airport within 30 minutes and only costing 3 Euro instead of the 32 Euro taxi fare. It is surrounded by tons of shopping, cafes and if you ask for room 261, you will get a terrace!"

"The REgencia Colon hotel was clean and the rooms were well-kept. The employees all spoke english and the service was excellent. The location was wonderful as it was right in the hub of the Old Gothic Area with a short walk to La Rambla, the main blvd. with lots of shopping and restaurants. The only problem was the noise level outside. The unloading of dumpsters and the people in the square kept us up. Despite the noise problem, the location of the hotel and the cleanliness and service would definitely bring us back for another stay. "
