it's okRooms and bathrooms are small but the hotel is ok and it's close to the center. It could be loud due to bus traffic during nights if you're getting a room with a window into the Lauriston Place area. Bathroom has got European style mixer taps and there's a good and well working shower, too.

Don't expect muchFirstly checkin- asked if I wanted a Non Smoking room and then gave me a smoking room anyway!Carpets worn and you can feel them move underfeet. Which you can get used to, but the room smelt of something stale everytime you opened the door.Aircon was struggling and feeble. Asked for fan, then had call to say they have run out but will provide one the next day. Guess what..never happened.Gym was samll but ok. Aircon worked. Alas rowing machine display didn't work. Asked 2 days in succession for it to be fixed and no result.Breakfast was high point with very cheery lady at reception.

A very gooooood dealWe got a excellant deal from late room ,there was huge diff fro the rack rate, location excellent and was in route of the edinburgh sight seeing bus trips(green and red buses). Ideal location as it is very close to the royal mile and castle and the main attractions are at a walkable distance.

Review CommentsThe hotel was clean and the rooms were spacious. Only two negatives, not much wardrobe space for clothes and the beds were uncomfortable.

Easter BreakLovely accommodation, pool great for the kids, very helpful staff. Great to be able to leave the car in the hotel car park after check out until we left Edinburgh. Good location, tour buses stop opposite the hotel. Only downside is that the clothes hanging space is way too small for a family of four.

Good hotelGood hotel, a bit expensive, but thats Edinburgh for you. We asked to checkin early, and the hotel went out of their way to accomodate us.

Edinburgh Easter Break!Hotel was in good position for centre of Edinburgh, with only a 15 minute walk to the Royal Mile and the Castle. Rooms small but adequate. Not enough parking spaces at hotel, nearly impossible to get a space and nearest NCP parking about a 10 minute walk, with the cost around £15-£18 a day! Did not eat or drink at hotel due to ridiculous prices (breakfast £15.95!) In addition, swimming pool tiny! However, all in all, would consider again.

IssuesEven though I had specified a twin room on booking and had pre paid, on arrival they said that one was not available. They asked if one of us if one of us would be ok on a sofa bed!! We stood our ground to the manager who then went away and returned a minute later with a twin room available. The room was small with futon style beds (which were comfortable) and the door to the bathroom was in a very awkward position that you had to squeeze past a bed to get to. The facilities apart from this were ok and nice to have a bag store. However, the staff and general management seemed disorganised.

Good location, nice room and good leisure facilities. Keep away from the mini-bar - £3.50 for the Mars Bar and packet of crips the children ate when we were not looking. No price list so thought it was free.

NovotelStaff were extremely helpful and friendly. Pool/hot tub were a nice break in the evening after seeing the city with the kids during the day. Tour bus stop directly across the street from the hotel and walking distance to many places, including the castle. I will stay there again.

Irelad won!Nothing really to complain about. Room had a torn net curtain and some tiles in the bathroom were cracked. I feel that theparking arrangements should be set out more clearly on arrival, especially the overflow in the NCP Car Park.

DisappointingOn entry to the hotel it was quite pleasant, but the room was very disappointing. The stains on the carpet were very off putting for walking about in your bear feet. I instructed my husband and son not to do so. The shower was pretty grubbie and overall not a very pleasant room

Nice hotel, very central to all attractions but watch out for the traffic wardens! We enjoyed our stay at the Novotel. We were only 10 mins walk from all the main attractions. The only negative to the hotel was definately the parking, but the general impression I got from my time there was that this is a universal issue in Edinburgh. Even so, we were rewarded with a parking ticket within the first 30 minutes of our stay at the hotel as there were no spaces in the hotel car park, and we had to park somewhere to unload the car before finding a long stay car park. Despite putting money in the meter we were penalised for having a couple of inched of bumper over a parking permit space (which by the way was empty and had room enough for several cars). All I can say is beware the traffic wardens in Edinburgh, it's like they lie in wait for tourists. Other than this one negative, we really enjoyed our stay. If you're adventurous with food I'd heartily recommend the Khublai Khan Mongolian restaurant(www.khublaikhan.co.uk). It's a taxi ride away (Leith), but well worth it for the unique dining experience (who'd have thought crocodile would taste so nice!)

Mixed FeelingsExcellent location. Very helpful reception staff. The room was good and had everything you would expect in a chain hotel of this type. Only minuses were the extras: I suppose one should expect it but if you want to eat in the hotel it is not cheap, neither is computer access in your room, nor even listening to music in your room. The pool and jacuzzi were a draw; except that they were full of screaming infants which rather defeated the point of going there to unwind. All in all, OK but could have been excellent.
