My husband an I had a three day stay whilst there is absolutely no complaint about the staff, who are really friendly, and cleanliness these were excellent, some things did make our stay uncomfortable. The entry to the car park was very neat, the room was too small for two people, the mattress was too small for the bed, the room appeared to be above some noisy ventilation? Although a nice touch the Tassimo makes rotten tea, we would have liked to have dined in the hotel in the evening, particularly as the breakfasts were really good, but after walking round York nearly all day, it was a bit of a trek to get something to eat in the evening and curry every night in the next door restaurant, isn't to everyone's taste.

ExcellentAfter reading the other reviews I wasn't sure what to expect from this hotel.I booked the standard double, for £60, and when we arrived found that we had been given a superior room with 4 poster bed, complimentary newspaper and sparkling wine and olives in the mini bar along with the wine, beer and soft drinks. The staff were friendly and the cooked breakfast was top quality, with a very good selection on the buffet as well (you don't often see english muffins and crumpets in hotel breakfasts)For £60 including breakfast for two people this hotel is excellent value for money, thoroughly recommended!

We booked a double superior room that had a modern 4-poster bed, room was good size had ironing board, hairdryer, TV, coffee & tea making machine (which worked well) also small mini bar. Room was quite clean and the bed was very comfortable. Sadly the bathroom let the hotel down the extractor van made the worst noise and the shower was in need of a good scrub and some maintenance to the entire area. We walked into York for dinner, which was a pleasant 10 min walk, Breakfast we had full English, which was cooked to order.

PERFECT LOCATION FOR VISITING THE MANY DELIGHTS OF YORKHotel Noir is situated in a pleasant location only 10 minutes walk from the Minster. A very clean hotel with friendly and helpful staff. I would recommend this hotel as very suitable for a short stay in York.

Nice Hotel In a Good Location But Too Noisy. The hotel is in a great location, only 10 mins walk to the city walls. The room looked nice, it was well decorated and spacious , the bathroom suite could do with updating but that didn`t bother us. The room had all the things you would expect in a hotel plus a few extras, although the bed was slightly small for my 6ft 2 boyfriend. The hotel staff were friendly and the older staff had good knowledge of the area and things to do. Breakfast was good, you could have as much or as little as you wanted and we didn`t have to wait long for it to arrive. The bad point, far too noisy. I didn`t get one good night sleep from our 3 night stay. The hotel is on the main road and our room was at the front so it was noisy all day and night. Our room was also located above the bar area and we could hear music most the night, as well as the tv & general noise from the guests upstairs. Not very good if you are a light sleeper. This is a nice hotel in a good location but too noisy for us. Would we go back? Not sure, but if we did I would make sure we had a room at the back of the hotel.

Avoid !I booked a room at Hotel Noir for friends of mine who visited York. As the hotel was not far from my house and I had walked past it many times it seemed convenient. Whilst the booking did specify that the room was compact , my friends found it so compact that they had to upgrade - they managed to negotiate a discount, at least. My friends also reported having to wait up 15 minutes to have breakfast, which is unacceptable in my book - I was embaressed by this. I will not use this hotel for friends again.I have filled in the ratings above taking this into account. I did not see the room so cannot comment on cleanliness - the public areas appeared clean - however as the room was so small I have given it the lowest rating. On quality of food I have given the lowest rating as they had to wait such a long time.

Conviently located - this a lovely hotel, immaculate & tastefully decorated. In comparision to other hotels in area, it is very reasonably priced. The only negative comment I would make is the length of time we had to wait for brekfast, 40 minutes, and then the order was wrong & the food was not very tasty. Perhaps the brekfast time could be extended to allieviate the pressure on staff. All in all though, I wouldn't definately recommend, & would stay again.

Hotel Noir experienceStayed here for one night while attending York University Open Day with my teenage son. Reception staff were extremely welcoming and helpful, providing information on parking facilities, nearby restaurants and details for reaching the University. Also thought the addition of the mini bar included in the room rate was a very nice touch. Would definitely recommend.

Comfortable & Stylish roomsRooms were very comfortable with some unique styling and some nice touches (complimentary mini bar, iron in every room etc). A little under staffed for breakfast service, meaning the tables weren't being laid for a second sitting and a number of people had to sit down at dirty tables. Friendly, attentive staff though and good selection of food available.

Visit to York for university open dayAlthough chosen at random, the Hotel Noir turned out to be something of a gem - to be remembered for future visits to York. We (Father plus two 17 year olds) were made welcome on arrival and the room - 3 single beds well spaced - was quiet, well equipped and comfortable. We were able to walk into the centre of York in the evening and breakfast in the hotel the next morning was excellent. Strongly recommended!

We were pleasantly surprised with our 2 night break. Our room was adequate for our needs and the free mini bar a good plus , especially the fresh milk for coffee. The quality of the breakfast food eg dry cure bacon and local sausage were excellent and as meal was freshly cooked to order the speed of service was good.Staff were friendly and offered me an umbrella when i went out in the rain

This is the second time we have stayed at The Noir and we would not have returned if we did not enjoy our stay the first time. The hotel is clean and comfortable with helpful staff and the breakfast is good. It only takes a short walk to reack York centre but the hotel is adjacent to the park and ride bus route.

A fantastic job has been done to convert an ordinary hotel into something special. The quality of furnishings is excellent, the breakfast was perfect and the owner a pure delight.York Minster and the great spread of hotels, pubs, bars (and tourist attractions) are just 10 minutes walk from here.A free mini bar is a wonderful touch, with wine, beer, olives and more. A great delight and somewhere I would love to return for a great romantic weekend.

This hotel is wonderful value for money, and all staff are most helpful. Breakfast was really good and enjoyed in a non hurried atmosphere in the dining room. When I come back I would however have a groundfloor room as found the stairs quite steep. My suitcase was however both taken upto and brought down from my roomReally enjoyed the stay and will be back Very pleasant walk to York town centre and easily done in 10-12 mins.

The noir experiencewould not of liked to have paid full price. After leaving us a menu for the cooked breakfast the waitress proceeded to ask other guests what they would like from the menu and forgot about us and as we had an appointment we left after some toast and coffee.

A Refurbished StyleNoir by name and nature, the rooms have a retro feel with black and white decor and furnishings. Refurb money spent on the important bits: bed, TV, coffee machine & DAB radio. Free (if limited) mini-bar also contains fresh milk for the coffee. Work out hoe to use the machine in advance - not so easy first thing in the morning. Bathroom reasonable but room was on second floor, so shower lacked zest. Decent cooked breakfast finished an overnight stay. Well placed if you don't mind a 10-15 gentle walk to the Minster area.
