great hotel. staff excellent. close to where u need to be and to all transportation. would definitely stay there again. guess the only down side was the fact that they had no in room tea making facilities which my boyfriend missed. definitely recommended.

Beautiful hotel. Very creative decorating in common spaces. Small but very functional, clean, well decorated room. Will definitely stay here next time I travel to San Francisco. Wish the stay was longer.

Beds were very comfortable and felt good like sleeping on a feather.

Uutterly disappointed. The room permeated with smoke odor even though I requested non-smoking. The replacement room was smoke-free but two doubles- nice for a romantic getaway for my wife's birthday. The parking was outrageous @$49 a night/valet, self parking was $30, but even that was unavailable. Good coffee in lobby, but this alone isn't going to get me back there.

Great service and cleanliness but not for the traveler on a small budget!

We had a very enjoyable stay. All of the staff were very helpful and friendly. The service was more personal than in many larger hotels where I have stayed. When we checked in, the lady at the front desk asked what brought us to San Francisco. We are a gay couple, and told her that we were celebrating our anniversary. She congratulated us, and made us feel completely welcome. We really appreciated that. The room was a little smaller than I expected, but nicely decorated, very clean, and comfortable. We had an interior room, with the window facing an air shaft. No view, but there was no street noise, so it was quiet, which is important to us. The location just two blocks from Union Square is very convenient if you want to stay in the shopping, theater, and convention districts.

Great common spaces, luxurious, attentive staff. Two blocks from Union Square. Very small rooms! Our master closet at home is not much smaller than our room at this hotel!. Older hotel that has been fixed up nicely and attractively appointed. Large open spaces downstairs. Pleasant hallways. Well decorated rooms, except they werevery small. Perhaps this is characteristic of San Francisco, though (our first time staying in San Francisco).

I've stayed there a couple of times - this time with my wife! The room was small for the two of us but the cleanliness and upkeep of the room were just fine. Other positives were the friendliness and competence of the front desk personnel, and we just loved the evening happy hour - which should be extended! A great opportunity to meet other guests. The only negatives were the noisy maintenance (repairs) at 2 am, and the persistent cold water in the "hot'" tap - not what you'd expect from a 4 star hotel. The meal in the main restaurant was disappointing. I'd eaten there during previous stays and was truly looking forward to a pleasant experience - not so on this occasion. The cafe, however, was just fine. Overall, we enjoyed the place and would probably stay there again.

The hotel's decor immediately transported me to a period in Europe/Paris with perfect precision. I rarely sleep well in hotels, but the Monaco had me waking to an alarm clock - amazingly restful bed and great showers.

Decor was great. Rooms were on the small size. Felt great.

Because we were celebrating our 20th anniversary, we wanted to stay someplace romantic and special. The Hotel Monaco was all that and more. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel welcome and the lobby decor was beautiful. We had a Queen Deluxe room and although the room dimensions were on the small side, it's decor was charming and it was immaculate. Because we were there for a week, we appreciated how clean the housekeeping staff kept the room throughout our entire stay. The hotel's location is convenient - just a short walk to Union Square and cable cars and there's a Walgreens across the street, in case you forgot to pack something like pantyhose or hairspray. The hotel staff was very helpful/knowlegeble with directions and suggestions - attentive but not intrusive. We would stay here again and will recommend Hotel Monaco to our friends and family.

Overall, I'd gladly stay at this hotel again. Right from the start, the door attendants and check in staff were polite, professional and efficient. The room was somewhat small but provided all the amenities: very comfortable bed, adequate dresser (lots of room for hanging clothes)working desk with computer access and I-Pod hook up (also an I-Pod accessible clock radio), good size TV, stocked refridgerator, and even a mini stereo (with CD player). Bathroom was reasonably sized and provided all amenities. Forgotten items (i.e. mouthwash, deodorant, etc..) were readily available and delivered promptly. Room was quiet, peaceful (recommend getting a corner room)and clean, clean, clean. Location was ideal for walking (approx. 1.5 blocks) to Union Square (shopping), boarding the trolley (approx. 3 blocks) for Fisherman's wharf, or catching the subway or bus. Also, hotel is just around the corner from one of the best (expect a wait), small breakfast restaurants, Dottie's. Hotel also is linked to a private car rental agency, which offered better rates than the Big name car rental companies, plus you could pick up and return the car at the main entrance of the hotel! Parking is too expensive, recommend this option if travel is required or just walk. Hotel offered a wine (pop for kids), cheese, and crackers social daily around 5pm which was terrific for socializing. Exercise room was clean and complete, hot tub room appeared to look like a living room (nicely decorated and very peaceful),with available towels.

Staff was friendly and very helpful. The concierge there was great. Food at the hotel and service was very good . Pet friendly hotel also, they even give you a pet goldfish for your your stay! Decor in the hotel and lobby is beautiful and a great spa in the hotel as well. The location couldbe better the street around the corner is full of a lot of homeless people and it is dirty like a busy city sometimes is; but the hotel makes you forget all of that. They alos have alt of amenities; wine and cheese daily neck massages etc...

This hotel would be well located and that the rooms would be small. This proved to be true - but the hotel is well placed - staff are very helpful and this was a welcome change to the impersonal chains. Monarch Maverick Director of Pet Relations is a lovely chocolate lab who wears a brown robe and greets pets (and other guests) in the lobby with a worldly yawn - since the theme of the hotel is to be international and cosmopolitan. The Grand Cafe is a wonderful restaurant which we enjoyed so much that we ate three meals there during a 2 day stay.

Decor was beautiful. Not much. It was great - one of the nicer places we've used on Priceline. Beautiful French decor and canopy beds.

Hotel Monaco was very nice. I went for a business trip, but it was so close to public transportation and shopping, I was able to mix pleasure in too! Rooms were very cute and the ""living room"" where they have a nightly reception was very nice to relax in.

The Monaco prides itself on customer service and it shows. The entire staff was very friendly and couldn't do enough for you. From finding phone numbers to booking tours and arranging transfers, just ask and it will happen. The room was uniqely decorated; plush and comfortable. The poster bed was dressed up like a tent in royal colors and was very inviting. We enjoyed returning to the room in the evening. The hotel is located just two blocks from the trolley and was right in the middle of everything. The spa in the basement is also a very pleasant surprise. Be sure to get a massage while you are there.

Location and staff. Excellent location right in downtown San Francisco.

This hotel was very charming with excellent service. They have a happy hour every day at 5:00 with wine and cheese, neck massage and tarot card reading - great fun! I do recommend avoiding the canopy bed size room - it's too small but otherwise, it was a great hotel.
