Fun place in a great Portland location - easy to walk from the MAX light rail and near the waterfront, good restaurants, and nice public spaces. Quirky design motifs with very friendly and helpful staff. Pet friendly too!

The service help was the best I have ever encountered! Wool carpeting-I am allergic!

The double queen room was an excellent price for my week stay in Portland. It was spacious, clean. I loved the sliding french doors between the sleeping and living area for privacy when the teens wanted to stay up late and chat. Decor was quirky and unique. Comfortable beds and linens.VERY quite hotel. Only one evening I heard light conversation, otherwise the place felt like home. Daily NY Times if desired, or ask the front desk, and they'll deduct a small amount off the bill if not interested. Close to shopping... from Ross's Dress for Less to Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Juicy Couture. Light rail system 2 blocks away but very quiet. Hotel staff very attentive and helpful. Very pet friendly hotel and city. Starbuck's coffee, Tazo Tea and hot cocoa in the lobby every am with real mugs to sit with by the fireplace. Lots of business types but never pretentious. Wine tasting at night but I was always on the go to enjoy. The only down side was I really wanted a soft drink one night but there are no vending machines at the hotel, so I had to walk a block to get a soda at 10 pm. The only advice/tip I'd give, especially if you have children is hide the honor bar and table goodies... you could rack a serious bill with all the munchies the hotel places out... Chips, chocolate, game cards and local specialties. I never thought to ask, but I'd check with the staff to ask for a key to lock up the liquors/soda ($8/$4) for safety reasons with little ones. Business center small but 2 PC's and a MAC for use. Free access to print boarding passes or if you give the front desk notice, they will do it for you.

We greatly enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Monaco. The hotel staff was the nicest and most helpful I have ever experienced and the hotel was spotless and just fun to be in. The location was also excellent. I would return again without hesitation.

Unique decor, cleanliness, great staff. I expect a pool or hot tub in a 4 star hotel. I liked everything about this hotel except the fact that there wasn't a pool or hot tub.

This is the second time I've booked a King Suite at hotel. The price simply cannot be beat! The decor is fabulous, the room spacious, nice couch and seating area, there's even two big TV's if you're into that (I never turned them on myself). For less than a regular room at another hotel, you can have twice the room here. The attached dining made things easy in the winter weather, but I was disappointed in the unnaturally steep beer and cocktail prices in the bar. And the nights I was there, two different bartenders were personality-less and seemed too eager to close down early. Maybe that's policy when things get slow, but I thought hours were posted for a reason. Also, being a bartender is more than just serving drinks-- it's serving customers. The food was okay but not many choices for those who don't eat meat. So I guess my main complaint is the attached restaurant-- the rest was great!

Very friendly staff, timely service, free wine from 4-6. Great location - a 3 minute walk from shopping area, and you can get to great restaurants within 10-15 minutes walking. We didn't use the poor or the gym but for the 1 night stay we had 0 negatives. Everything was awesome.

My friend and I stayed here a few days ago. The service and friendly atmosphere were exceptional. Room service and housekeeping were responsive and prompt. The front desk personnel and doormen were extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the local restaurants and shopping. I plan on staying at Hotel Monaco in the future when visiting Portland. Our sincere thanks to the staff and management of Hotel Monaco for a wonderful experience.

The room was amazing! You walked into a very spacious room that looked like it went on for ever. The bathroom was large and well appointed; the sitting room was set off from the bedroom by french doors and both rooms had their own TV. I was traveling on business, but definitely was wishing I had my family there with me. Like all Kimpton hotels the decor is upbeat and hip. I loved all the patterns and interesting pattern and color combos in the rooms. It was slightly less high modern than other Kimptons I have been in but I enjoyed the muted tones and appreciated being in the room while I worked or lounged. By the time I had some free time to enjoy Portland, it was raining, so I was happy to have a big bed to curl up in with a book. The only odd thing seemed to be that everything in the room was for sale. Not just that you could order it from a catalog, but the bear on the bed and the boxers in the closet actually had price tags on them. It was like the commercials in the movie theaters, I already paid to get in, stop selling things to me. My room also looked into an office building across the street, but the curtains on the high windows were lovely with the rainy light coming through. Each night there was a different theme in the lobby for cocktail hour - one night was cupcakes, the next was an animal shelter (I almost came back to California with a puppy). It made for an interesting start to every evening. The staff was friendly and helpful with lots of "welcome back"s and tips on what to do and how to get around. When I called from the airport to ask if I could take the Max, they even suggested making sure my room would be ready for me in time for my early arrival. On my last day, although I had already checked out, they even lent me an umbrella to trudge about with in the drizzle.

We stayed at the Hotel Monaco Portland in October 2008. The hotel is convenient and just a 40-minute light rail ride from the airport. We were in a suite with a king bed?very spacious with a sitting room, flat screen TV and DVD player. We were on the fourth floor and there was a quite a bit of street and construction noise, but that might not be as noticeable on higher floors. That was our only complaint?the hotel was comfortable with friendly staff. There are lots of restaurant options within walking distance or just a stop or two away on the light rail. Macy?s, Nordstrom, Williams Sonoma, and an upscale shopping mall are just a few blocks away. Overall, the hotel was a comfortable, attractive "home base" for our week in Portland. Would recommend to others visiting Portland and would stay here again in the future.

This was my first experience with a boutique hotel and I loved it. The room was fabulous. We got a King suite and it had a nice hall entry that made the place feel a little more private. I'm not sure if all the king suites are set-up that way or if we just got lucky. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We loved the lobby and they had a great cocktail hour for guests. It was a very fun atmosphere and didn't have the "stuffy" vibe you sometimes get from a chain hotel. I was a little worried from other posts that the decor would be a little too wild and out there but in reality I think they did a very nice job with it and I liked it. The location was great too -- it was near all the shops and restaurants. We would totally stay here again if we ever head back to Portland. I"ll make sure to research other Kimpton places on future trips.

This was an escape trip for 2 days. I have not been to downtown Portland for a couple of decades. It's the best trip I have had in years. Very easy to get around on the light rail and streetcar. Very walker friendly (safe). The hotel is an old bldg. but fun funky with fantastic goodies and services. Can't wait to go back in the fall to see the foliage.

Great hotel, but you should have told us that the Dinning room was being closed for remodeling. My wife is disabiled and we can travel to other places to have dinner. Also we had a room that was above the dinning room that was being worked on, so at 7:30 am the construction begian waking us both up. This was quite upseting. Please update your Hotel statis. Great pick. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful; their service was better, more personalized, and more sincere than most of the five star hotels I've stayed at. The room and bathroom was spotless and huge for a downtown hotel (we stayed in a king suite). The bed was pretty great and the room was always nice to come back to over our five day trip. The Aveda bath products were also a welcome touch. The location is also hard to beat. It's a short two blocks from the train that takes you to the airport and the bus lines that stop on the hotel's block as of 5/24 will take you to just about any where in Portland (our room was very quiet despite the bus traffic and downtown location). Next time we're in Portland, we'll gladly stay at the Hotel Monaco again.

Great staff and very convenient location. Room was tiny and the window did not open and parking is spendy. Love the wine reception and the art supplies for painting during that time. Our number one reason for choosing a Kimpton is pets stay free!
