The instruction to find the hotel, not very helpful. Shower poor in morning when lot of people using water. Breakfast reasonable, plenty. Lovely views of the bay (have to pay for view) Hotel provides bus to town, need it to far out. Car park available. We had a crying baby next door otherwsie did not hear our neighbours.

The hotel was difficult to find because the internet link shows a street number not recognised by GPS. Some signage further down the hill from the hotel will alert drivers to "keep going" . Otherwise it was a lovely hotel with spectagular views. First time stay.

Overall the hotel was of a high standard and good value for money. The staff were very friendly, helpful and competent. There was one clear area for improvement and one disadvantage about our room. The evening meal was of poor quality and was very expensive compared with other places in town. Early in the morning the scraping of chairs on the floor of the dining room above our room was very noisy and distracting. This started well before 0700 most mornings.

Cannot really add much to the good things that have already been said about this hotel and we endorse them all. What we can add is that we arrived home feeling relaxed and refreshed after our stay there so La Vue d'Or must take credit in helping us to achieve that. Even the mechanical problems with the shuttle bus did nothing to spoil our holiday as the hotel pulled out all the stops, including family members and staff using their own cars, to ensure that guests were not inconvenienced. This was just one example of the high standard of friendly service we experienced during our stay. It was our first stay at this particular hotel, we have visited the area for over 20 years, and we hope not the last.

The hotel was wonderful. The view was just as described --breathtaking. The pool was very nice however it would have been better if it was heated.

We spent a great 7 nights here. Staff very friendly and helpful. Very nice hotel kept absolutely spotless. Bar and food prices very reasonable. There is a free shuttle bus to and from Sorrento which runs more or less throughout the day and evening. Poolside is nice and simple and plenty of Brits stay here. We made loads of friends. We had a car so went off to Amalfi coast and Vesuvius/Herculaneum, which, by the way, is better tham Pompei for ruins. You can do all these by public transport so a car isn't really necessary especially as you can't park in Sorrento. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would stay at the Hotel Vue D'Or again with no misgivings. Views were amazing from our balcony (room 355), rooms could be cooler(even with A/C) but it wasn't a problem as they gave us a fan. Well recommended and away from the hustle and bustle of Sorrento although it's nice to go there to eat in the evenings and catch the shuttle back at 10.30pm. Careful though if you've got kids as the bus gets busy and you may have to wait 20 mins for the second run getting you back to the hotel at 11.15pm.

We all loved this hotel although it was farther from Sorrento than we expected. The shuttle bus was very convenient though, and it was well located to use the local bus to see Positano and Amalfi.Dinner in the restaraunt was a fixed price four course meal which didn't work well for our family, but breakfast was great. We really enjoyed relaxing by the swimming pool one afternoon! The staff was great.

Very nice hotel, close from Sorrento and well located to visit the various and famous destinations of Amalfitana coast like Ravello, Positano, Amalfi and Capri but also Pompei and Vesuvio. We recommend "la Marina del Cantone" and its beach for sun and sea bath and its restaurant "la taverna del capitano " to enjoy a romantic dinner .

Very nice hotel. High on a hillside, fantastic views. Private bus in to town worked very well. 15 minute ride. Staff very friendly. Moderately sized room with nice bathroom. Typical European breakfast, good selection and quality. Very peaceful and quiet with roosters crowing in the morning. Well worth the cost. We would stay there again.

A very pleasant and comfortable hotel, which would have been even more enjoyable if the weather had been warmer and we had been able to enjoy the lovely pool area. We took some other reviewer's advice and paid extra to have a room with a view--and we were glad we did. The breakfast and the room it is served in were both exceptionally nice. Other travellers suggested that we were best to eat dinner out as the hotel's food was bland, so we took their advice. I would suggest that you ask the hotel for good in-town restauarants. We didn't and wished we had. The shuttle bus was hugely helpful. For those travelling by car, as we were, the map was inadequate. Be sure to get specific directions as to where to turn right to go up the hill, and how many kilometres it is from that turn off. (Without the latter you might think you had made a mistake as it was a very long way!)Again for those with a car, the hotel has its own very convenient parking lot. Ask for directions if you plan to drive down the Amalfi Coast.

If you use public transportation in and around Sorrento make sure you ask for detailed information, sometimes even the locals will give you a vague response. Otherwise it was great from beginning to the end.

Our second visit to this warm and friendly, family-run hotel. We weren't disappointed. The staff even recognised us from last year although they must see many thousands of people per year. Personally, I am not a huge fan of Sorrento itself but I have no doubt we will return to La Vue D'or again, probably for a short visit to round off our holiday as we did this year from Puglia. We recognised a couple from our first visit and they said that they had been visiting the hotel for 20 years - not a bad testimonial. The view from the hotel terrace is simply stunning and if you are lucky enough to get a sea-view room then you will awaken to a backdrop befitting some romantic Hollywood movie, probably starring Sophia Loren and Gregory Peck!! The staff are outstanding, with particular praise going to the head waiter Bartolo and chief barman Angelo. Down side? Well you are probably a bit far out if you prefer the hustle and bustle of the town, but friends to whom we recommended the hotel earlier this year said that this wasn't a problem for them and they ate out every evening.

Sorrento was crowded with traffic comparable to a busy city. In contrast however this hotel was a quiet oasis of calm on the mountain above town. Staff were friendly & helpful, a credit to hotel. "Sea view" was a glimpse from side of balcony but view of mountains & town below were fantastic. Breakfast fairly standard but very acceptable, I wouldn`t however recommend the evening meal. Overall we felt we`d made an excellent choice of hotel. Driving in Italy? Don`t even go there!!!!!! Use shuttle bus
