Ticks all the basic boxesVery clean and friendly hotel. Central location makes easy to explore the city. The 3 saunas on the top floor were an absolute treat. The cooked breakfast was also very good.

Nice hotel, probably renovated just a few years ago. Clean room, decorated with a scandinavian touch. Quite acceptable breakfast. Not an inspiring neighborhood, but the Helka is conviniently located (near the centre of town / train station, and so on). Would not recommend for a family stay, but perfect for business purposes.

I love Helsinki! I love this hotel! Full of character, excellent facilities and most wonderful staff. The Helka is exactly what we were after. Cannot say enough positives. Will stay here again.

Great hotel for a stay in downtown HelsinkiMy three nights at Hotel Helka were wonderful. Although the single rooms are a bit small, they have everything you need and the layout is compact and fine for one person. I appreciated the emphasis on creating a room and a hotel with great Finnish design. The hotel had a calm, comfortable and distinctly Finnish feel to it. The room was spotless and the staff happily helped with any requests. The morning breakfast was also great. There was plenty of food to choose from, the dining area was inviting and the staff friendly. My only complaint was that they didn't have karjalanpiirakka every day!I also enjoyed their sauna that is available for all the guests. However, it would be great if it was open later in the evening--perhaps until 10pm. Its a nice way to end your day, and I felt that 7pm was way too early to end the day in the summer when its light out for so long and you want to extend your day outside as long as possible.The location of the hotel is a short walk from the train station and from just about anything you want to see and do. I would definitely return to Hotel Helka and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting a quiet, relaxing and friendly place to stay.

Great hotel in a great location , only 5 - 10 minute walk to centre of helsinki , with all the facilities - free wifi internet in the rooms or free internet in the lobby , room service and good sized rooms with a modern feel

The hotel was brilliant!! It was in a really good location to visit Helsinki, the rooms were modern and well maintained. All the staff were friendly and welcoming. The sauna on the roof of the hotel was a nice touch. The breakfast buffet had a wide selection but what let it down if we were to be very picky was the hot food could have been a little better. Will definantly stay there next time we visit. One of the best hotels we have stayed in for a long time.

Triple room was a little cramped, but this is not very surprising in Scandinavia! Breakfast was quite good and the staff were helpful.

"Design" hotels can be very serious business. Helka is a relief in the genre, simple and stylish but not with out humour. The only place design has exceeded the practical is the Harri Koskinen lamp block (1997) as a reading lamp....that those not work. A dimmer for the inspiring installation in the ceiling would also be a positive addition.Eirik

I LOVE this hotel! It is trendy but not exorbitantly expensive. It has a central location, within walking distance of all the sights. And the rooms are just fabulous - they show off all that is brilliant about Finnish style. OK, the rooms are compact and bijou, but they cram so many great things into the rooms that you don't care. Lush showerroom and luxurious bed. Oh, and the sauna is just brilliant.

The room was modern, clean and nice, but the building and common areas are rather unattractive. There is no atmosphere to speak of. I found the rate very expensive for what and where it was.

A perfect place to stay in Helsinki. We stayed for 3 night during January 2009 and found the hotel to be excellent. Large room well appointed although could benefit from a laptop safe and tea making facilities in the room. Bathroom large and clean. The recent renovation adds quirky design with ceiling mounted photo-murals of the Finnish countryside, Alvar Aalto furniture and objects by younger Finnish designers. The breakfast is pretty standard fare but okay. We had dinner in the hotel restaurant one night and found it to be pretty good but not outstanding. All in all, I would stay here again. Good value.
