A brand new Austria guest house, it caters to the desires of wine connoisseurs discovering the beauty of the Wachau Valley in Lower Austria. The Weinquadrat (German for Wine Square) is a 3 star guest house with 12 individually decorated guest rooms. Its wine bar invites guests to sample some of the finest red and white wines from all over Austria. Guests can also enjoy a glass of wine out on the terrace overlooking the garden. The hotel shop, called s’ Ladele (The Ladel), sells locally made gifts such as jams, chutneys, chocolates, and soaps as well as bottles of wine. The Weinquadrat is in Weißenkirchen in der Wachau, in the heart of the Wachau wine country, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000. The western entrance to the Wachau is Melk, known for the massive baroque Benedictine monastery called Stift Melk, high on a bluff above the city. One of the most popular Wachau attractions is the Durnstein castle, 5.3 km/3.3 miles to the east of Weißenkirchen in der Wachau. The medieval city of Krems (also called Krems an der Donau) is considered the eastern end of the Wachau.
