We had a pleasant stay at Hotel Equatorial Ho Chi Minh. The room was cozy and comfortable. Amenities were complete. Though the hotel was relatively far from District 1, the free shuttle service was a big help to us. Loved the food and service at their seafood restaurant, Orientica though it was quite expensive.

I would endorse Juerg's recommendation wholeheartedly. I had a very pleasant stay at the Equatorial (late August 2008) and also found the staff extremely friendly and helpful. And the breakfast buffet was one of the best I've seen -- and I've traveled extensively -- over 50 countries on five continents, all 50 U.S. states... There was a special promotion going on the week I was in HCM City, with a Malaysian chef preparing a special Nonya buffet at certain mealtimes. The food at this hotel is excellent. I was also plesantly surprised at the fitness room, which was well above average, and the very nice outdoor pool, which also had a poolside bar that served drinks and some food. I filled out the hotel's evaluation and regret in retrospect one comment I made, because I misinterpreted a sign at poolside that caused me to think there was a daily surcharge for using the pool and fitness facilities; they were, of course, free for hotel guests. For some visitors, the location might be a slight drawback, as it is not in the District One area where many of the city's attractions are; but it is not that far and is in the interesting District 5, which is the traditional Chinatown of the city. I walked around the area and stumbled into one very nice local grill that did not cater especially to tourists, but which did have very good food -- and very friendly staff, who were helpful despite lacking some in English.

I stayed at the Equatorial because of the distance to my girlfriends home. As it turned out to be she stayed with me the entire 5 days, although I had to book an extra room for her. The hotel facilities are excellent, the staff is extremely friendly, helpful and pleasant. The bar on 2nd level is to be mentioned in particular, because I happened to have a lot of fun with the employees whilst waiting for my girlfriend. A great time I spent at this hotel and I would most definately strongly recommend it to the HCM traveller who is looking for something just outside the center and business district. It is probably more of HCM due to its location than other hotels in the business district. Breakfast is also to be mentioned - excellent quality, plentiful food around and yet again a very attentive and friendly service.

This is a fabulous hotel property with all the amenities. The staff was wonderful and attentive. It was the cleanest hotel we have stayed in...outdoing the major hotels in Las Vegas. Only about a 2.00us taxi to shopping and downtown. I would love to go back there, anytime.

Very hospitable and helpful staff ever ready to assist in whatever way possible. Would recommend the hotel even though it is located outside District 1.
