Superior hotel reviewThis is a very comfortable hotel, with a friendly efficient staff, It is fairly new, and it may be that I encountered the A team of the Hotel du Van group. I will stay there again and I hope the quality is maintained.

My wife and I found the staff to be very attentive but not intrusive. The restaurant service was excellent and the food was cooked to order. It was nice to have full service at breakfast.We would recommend couples to say in Tattenger which has delightful views down the Tyne.There is a very extensive wine list.

Good back up option for NewcastleHDV Newcastle is a perfectly acceptable Hotel - for the night I stayed it was £30 cheaper than the Malmaison and overall was good value for money. The location is ok - outside of the city centre and on a main road but the rooms are quiet and comfortable. Not ideal for anyone looking to get the buzz of the city, but fine for a business traveller or for anyone looking for a quiet spot.The layout of the hotel is low rise with rooms spread over several buildings - I find this slightly disjointed, requiring you to cross a courtyard and walk down long corridors to reach rooms.The hotel was opened in October 2008 - so the fittings are bang up to date and very smart. My bathroom was spotless and shower was excellent rainshower style. I ate at the sister restaurant Malmaison which was very good and a short 5 minute walkaway along the quay. Breakfast at the HDV was efficient - breakfast bar was well stocked, my mushrooms on toast were slightly underwhelming but fine.For £109 a night this is reasonable value - I would probably pick the Mal if the prices were similar but this is a good back up.

Hotel Du Vin - Newcastle. A hotel not yet ready to receive guestsThe restaurant was about 25% full and after an hour and 10 minutes our food had still not arrived. Apparently the waiter forgot to place the order with the kitchen. The head waiter apologised, but we left without eating. Wouldn't stay there again.

OK I got a good deal on this- had I paid full price i would have used the word 'underwhelmed'.Hotel is lovely, great outdoor areas and cosy homely bars. Room was quite small, beautifully decorated as all Hotel Du Vins with nice touches, but just far far far too hot, and the air-con didn't work.The location is fab for a walk along the river towards town- various nice bars & restaurants en route.Evening meal was nice, lovely wine & quality food, if a bit overpriced (they do a good deal on a set menu, but no vegetarian option). The service was a bit disappointing, not attentive enough and they don't really need a specific wine waiter when the 'ordinary' waiter appeared to be struggling to cope. I was left waiting ages for my bill.

A Real Treat! The Hotel Du Vin Chain recommended by my brother in Bristol!A fantastic place to stay. The Hotel Du Vin, Newcastle feels just a little bit different from any other hotel I've been to in England. Previously an old shipping office, that has been beautifully renovated and opened in October 2008! The staff were very friendly and customer service excellent throughout our one night, midweek break. The rooms were wonderfully decorated with quality decor throughout. The place only has 42 rooms, but feels more cosier than that. A good location and an easy walk along the Quayside into the centre of Newcastle or a bus stop 150 metres away! The Baltic Gallery and The Biscuit Factory Art Gallery within walking distance and many other great attractions that are easily accessible. Dinner and the wine list fabulous and relaxing. Breakfast very good and all in all a great birthday treat for my wife and myself. I shouldn't recommend this too highly, as we want to go back. Excellent place. Thanks Hotel Du Vin, Newcastle.

Great place for a get away nightBooked to stay as the ladies going to see a concert and the men went for a few drinks after we all had a fantastic meal in the hotel. Really superb quality and the service in the restaurant was excellent.Came back after concert and all met up for a few drinks in the bar/lounge area. Has a great relaxing feel about the place. Would really recommend

Cigar ShackAlready sent an email about the Cigar Shack situated in the central courtyard with people outside at 1 am keeping awake and making our room smell of smoke!!

a mustfirst time at this hotel, altho a little out the way the staff, food and customer service make up for this,, but onlt 5 mins to the quayside, standard rooms were a little small, upgraded and was amazed by the difference.....well done to all, a credit to the company....

Jolly lovelyOne or two minor gripes with the room - but I was here on the cheap so I don't mind that I wasn't in their best room. Food in the restaurant was excellent and the advice from the sommelier was down-to-earth and welcome.

Great service but.....My main concern was with the bathroom.The bath had a shower over it, a very deep one, and I had to clamber in it to use the shower. When I got out I slipped, banged my leg and still have the blue bruise to show for it.Also the shower mat had been moved leaving a trail of hairs behind it. Yuk...not nice.The staff were all very pleasant and helpful; service was good and breakfast was cooked to order rather than left to congeal under lights; the continental buffet table had more than the usual offerings on it. Good location, being only a 10 minute walk from the city centre. In the main a pleasant couple of nights and I would return there again.

Excellent room (we stayed in Moet & Chandon) - great layout. Sadly we missed breakfast as there was a wedding fayre and nobody mentioned that breakfast would finish an hour early on Sunday morning. Sure it would have been great - bistro menu looked v tasty. Would highly recommend.

The best there is in NewcastleMyself and my wife enjoy taking short overnight trips away, we both work very hard through the week and with a young baby we occasionally like a night to ourselves. We booked to stay at the hotel du vin in Newcastle, as it appeared as though it was the best hotel in newcastle , we can confirm that indeed it is, the hotel has a rustic feel as it is a conversion, the decor is modern and comfortable, the quality of the accomodation is exceptional, the service is to be expected from this chaon, but does not dissappoint, All in all i would say it is the best hotel available in Newcastle and would not stay anywhere else.
