The Hotel Copernicus dates back to the 1300's and embodies the eclectic nature of the city. The hotel takes its name from the famous astronomer who first realized that the Earth revolves around the sun, contrary to the beliefs of the time. His namesake Krakow hotel sits in the shadows of the Gothic churches with whom he would come into conflict over his theory. The Krakow-Balice International airport is approximately 5 miles from the Hotel Copernicus.
