Hotel Convento D'alter do Chao

The Hotel Convento D'Alter is located just two hours away from Lisbon in the villa of Alter do Chao, in the Alentejo region of Portugal. A completely restored Franciscan Convent of the late XVI century which was used as private residence yet during the last one. Preserving its original splendour and characteristics the old convent suffered a profound transformation turning it into a fine hotel with new areas and facilities. With its thirty rooms, conference rooms, swimming pools for adults and children, bar with snack and light meals service it is without any doubt one of the most complete and comfortable units of the northern Alentejo. The Royal Stud Farm of Alter where the Lustianian horses are bred is also worth visiting. It was built by order of King D.Joao V in 1748 upon request of his son Prince D.Jose.
