Reasonably convenient to Piazzale Roma ( bus terminal ), the train station, water bus station and the cruise ship docks ( we caught a cruise from Venice so this was significant ). Only three small bridges to cross from the bus terminal. Private water taxi mooring directly in front of the hotel ( water taxis are expensive but worth the investment for certain situations ). Access is an important issue in Venice as your options are either water taxi or walking, mostly walking. Bridges have steps not ramps so they dictate the accessibility ( imagine dragging your wheeled luggage over them ), also most walkways are cobblestone. If you stay here and are interested in Gothic Cathedrals be sure to visit the small cathedral just across the Grand Canal from the hotel, it is well worth the visit. We feel that this hotel is a little pricey but overall it was worth it.

Accommodation was comfortable but in my view as usual too hot. The thermo didn't seem to work. Be aware that the seemingly complimentary peanuts aren't and simply don't fit into the fridge and are therefore charged for.Cable and internet didn't work for first 6 hours but later cleared itself. Old fashioned shower taps, ie v hot then v cold. Reception service was very good and helpful with directions and other advice. Bar shuts at 12 too early for a hotel of this standard. V clean hotel and reception helpful with looking after bags after checkout. Breakfast v good value and staff in general rofessional and multilingual.

A Great spot right across the Train Station and Ferry station to all the rest of Venice. Just 2 blocks to the Bus loop that'll take you to the Airport for 2 Euro. The place was a little pricey but our room with the view of the Grand Canal was worth every cent, plus it included a great buffet breakfast with a good selection of food and had you walking away full every time. I'd pass on the fine dining restaurant though at the hotel, the service at the restaurant was very slow and way over priced for something you could of had further inside Venice's streets. Unless you plan on huffing all your luggage around getting to your hotel or are planning to pay for a water taxi, this hotel has the prefect location.

Expensive, like all hotels in venice. But the hotel is in an excellent location and the reception staff were really friendly and helpful; very impressively so actually.

"The hotel was a little run down for the price we paid. It smelled funy in corridors and elevators. Excellent location, right across S. Lucia train staion and water public transportation. Stuff spoke excellent English. Good breakfast."

Overall the hotel worked for us. Its right across from the railway station. Its not very fancy, its more for a budget traveler. If you are heading to Venice for an anniversary or a special occassion this is not a great hotel. The water taxi station is right across the hotel, its useful to buy a water taxi pass. We found good restaurants around the Rialto area.

Actually we had our wedding reception there. The Maitre and staff had an excellent approach and management of the above mentioned event. In particular we single out the Maiter Filippo for his organisational skills in ensuring that the day went so smoothly. The location of the Hotel on the Grand Canal is really great.

I was looking forward to having a room with a view. Instead I got the room above the kitchen with a view of an alley where the workers take break. I was waken up every morning approx 5-6 in the morning from noise comming from the kitchen. Not ideal! Make sure youre no where near the kitchen. Other than that everthing else was GOOD.

I would highly recommend the Hotel Carlton to anyone traveling to Venice. It is easy to find whatever your transport from the airport. Situated right on the Grand Canal you can water taxi to the front door but if you're on a budget the train station is directly opposite across the canal and the bus depot is a 2 minute walk away around the corner. The reception staff where incredibly polite and knowledgeable and were fluent in Italian, English and French. The hotel was stunning, all marble floors and sumptuous fabrics and most importantly incredibly clean. Our room was a bit on the small side but again clean, attractive and serviceable and the air con was very welcome in the August heat. The only thing lacking were tea and coffee making facilities but there was room in the mini bar fridge for our own bottles of prosecco so we weren't complaining!

Firtst time in Venice. Hotel is across the canal from the train station which is very handy. The room was large by European standards, and very nicely decorated. Helpful staff; and the hotel was re-done 5 years ago; so everything is in great condition.

This is a good quality hotel, good value for the money, and a very convenient location. I would definitely recommend this hotel, especially for first time visitors to Venice who might have difficulty finding some other locations.

Please read to the end. This hotel is in a great spot and the staff were friendly and spoke english. However its being renovated and there are builders all over the place. No wonder we had a great front room with a view of the canal! The scaffolding was all over the front of the building (hardly recognisable) as it was being replastered so the workman was right there when I opened the window. I made sure to lock the shutters and the windows for security. We werent in our room much in the daytime and the workers were gone by the time we were back in the late afternoon so not really a drama. The room is beautifully furnished in venetian style. This is padded fabric walls, handpainted shabby chic type bed and cupboards and Murano glass chandalier. Ensuite is small but modern and all scrupulously clean. No mould andwhere and no smells. Wonderfully thick white towels and perfectly white sheets changed everyday (I know because I dropped a tiny spec of chocolate on my side and it was gone!) It is a very short stroll (5mins) to the bus stops and across the canal from the train station. Bus stop across the canal to take us anywhere up the Grand canal with our 3 day ticket. The hotel breakfasts were good and the coffee keeps on coming -waitstaff here where really nice. I had meusli, toast and yogurt and my husband had scrambled eggs and bacon. It was good and plenty of it. Cafes, Bars and restaurants all around here too. Probably a bit quieter than the other end of the canal near the Basilica with the crowds. Yes I would stay here again as its only going to look even better with the renovations done. I guess they have to do them in the quiet season. In fact i am glad we saw Venice in February - no crowds and the fog just gave it a peaceful atmosphere - my photos look great.
