Very friendly and helpful staff. Room was clean (and cleaned daily) and had a nice view over the square. As it is right in the heart of the citadel, everything was in walking distance. Would definitely stay again when next in St Malo.

Very poor value for money. Not recommended.

Great location in centre of town, lovely hotel with very friendly owners who were keen to help and give us information about the town and the best places to eat.Room quite small but was very clean and well kept

Room was small on the 4th floor. Well presented and clean. Toilet was in a separate cubicle in in bedroom not the bathroom. Cubicle was very small, need to leave door open to use comfortably. No air conditioning, so have to choose between hot room or noisy room at night. Didn't have breakfast. For a 2* hotel it was better than average.

This hotel is ideally situated inside the walls of the old town of St Malo and therefore a short way from all the attractions 'intra muros' and only ten minutes walk from the ferry port. The room was comfortable and provided us with all we needed. Chamber maids tidied the en suite bathroom and re-made the bed on a daily basis and everything was clean and functional. The staff spoke excellent English and did not hesitate to do so. I have nothing but praise for them, as we required help when our boat home was cancelled. The problem was taken out of our hands and dealt with on our behalf, for which I am extremely grateful, my French being minimal and, I am ashamed to admit, somewhat 'pidgin'.I would gladly stay there again and would not hesitate to recommend the Bristol Union to friends.

When we arrived, someone, presumably the owner, was very helpful about parking and then later on about where to go and eat. Unfortunately, in the morning when we were checking out, a different person, this time a woman, was rather rude - she was trying to deal with too many people at once, admittedly. Perhaps there should be more staff at busy times. The rooms (junior suite) were fine and the location excellent - right in the thick of the old town. Useful if you are catching the ferry.

Single night stay en route to St Malo Ferry. Extremely friendly and helpful staff, ideal room (suite with seperate room for kids) and great location for Ferry and attractions in the walled town. Would recommend highly.

Staff were welcoming and helpful upon our arrival. As a family of four (two kids aged 6 and 10) we booked a family room that was actually two rooms that interconnected off a internal corridor. The 'suite' was spacious but threadbare - with smelly plumbing in the main bedroom (the shower room was divided by a thin door only and the drains were invasive to say the least. The real winning feature of this hotel is location, location, location. It is in the heart of the old walled town of St Malo - on the doorstep of endless sea food restaurants, the walls themselves, and utterly charming streets and shops. Parking is a challenge - but the staff were very helpful. Overall - would recommend for location only. If you can get a hotel with better reviews - would probably suggest that you take it.

Excellent hotel , fantastic location and the owners could not have been more helpful. I had read some of the reviews before we went , having only booked this hotel as we needed a family room and couldn't get in at hotels that we had stayed in before. I was surprised how good the breakfast was and yes the lift was tiny but we managed it fine. Don't let this put you off!We will definitely stay there again. It was a lot quieter at night than the chateaubriand in the main entrance to the intramuros and a lot more personal.

Great hosts and a very friendly welcome. We had a great stay and the hosts local knowledge was very helpful in finding great places to eat.

Bed was made up a a double rather than twin but was quickly changed. They claimed that Laterrooms had not passed on info, not a problem. Otherwise fine. Great location

The owner could not do enough to help, and made every guest feel as if they were the only ones. The owner took time to find parking (which we had forgotten to book) recommended restaurants, and took extra time with our young chuildren. The room set up was ideal, giving adults there own space in their room, whilst the children slept in their own room - perfect. Absolutly A1!

Great hotel. Right in the old town, and only 5 mins from ferry. Friendly and thoroughly multilingual staff. Would definitely stay here again, but would definitely not have the breakfast which was adequate in terms of quality (and there was a wide selction), but way overpriced at 9 Euros each.

Good location in the old town, great friendly and helpful service by the staff, clean and tidy room with a nice view over the little square. Toilet was obviously designed for a dwarf though!! Never mind, there was also a communal toilet in the hallway that was adequate size.......

The hotel is ideally situated in the middle of the old walled town. The owners are fantastic and recommended places to visit and some great restaurants.

Have stayed in this hotel many times and have always received a very warm welcome from Mark & Catherine, the owners. The rooms are spotless, breakfast very good with a wide variety of food . Fantastic location, close to the sea and shops and restaurants. 10 out of 10 !
