I loved this place...lots of personality and charm. Great location. Clean and well maintained. Good selection at breakfast

Very pleasant hotel with an old-fashioned thirties athmosphere, very good breakfast, a perfect palace for a short stay in Coimbra.

The hotel building is classic, with a good location, but the room lacks comfort on basic items, such as the bed,the shower and the absence of a minibar. On the other hand, the restaurant is very good.I suggest that you include an item to evaluate the hotel restaurants in general.

Very convenient location for many places of historic interest.

The hotel is charming and very old fashioned. During the night it was very loud because of the main street with cars, buses and train. The air was polluted from the diesel of the running engines of the buses by the bus stop. Next time I would choose something else, more quiet.

The Astoria is a faded old art nouveau hotel in a great small Portuguese city... Coimbra... with lots of interesting things to see and a lovely riverfront. The hotel is a bit fusty and funky (the elevator and the water pressure are barely functional) but that is also its charm, and the staff are very friendly and flexible.

Edificio storico molto bello e centralissimo.. peccato non sia manutenuto come dovrebbe. L'arredamento e la tappezzeria delle camere lascia molto a desiderare in quanto da la sensazione di vecchio e poco pulito.

Bad, bad, bad. A lot of year before it was a hotel, now it is ....!

This is a lovely old hotel which retains many Art Deco features and furnishings from what I assume was a refit in the 30's. I hope it survives as such because it can never be made luxurious without ruining it. The location could not be bettered though it is busy and the student population can get VERY noisy on Saturday night (especially in May). We were lucky to have a room at the front so there was always something to watch (the back may have been quieter). It is on the river but separated by a wide road so you can't actually see it. Dinner menu adventurous & quite pricy - some things didn't quite work (some did) but setting is great.

The breakfast was a bit simple for a 3-nights stay, but it's generally okay. The bedroom always had drain-stink when we returned to the room after a few hours (and left the window closed). Very good point, that the hotel is 300 meters from the train station, so you just walk a bit, and you're there. Also the old city center is just a few hundred meters away.

It is a beautiful Art Deco building in a wonderful location, with exceptionally spacious en suite rooms (at least ours was like that). Unfortunatelly it is in a great need for better management. Carpets were spoted and ugly, our bathroom floor was dirty, the entire building had an unpleasant smell, the corridors were dark, breakfast was poor.

Hotel is keept almost as it was 50 years ago. Very nice place for that date, but in my opinion not suitable to hold the actual rate of 4 stars. In other city it will not get more than 2 stars. The price is the only item corresponding to 4 stars hotel.
