Great location but parking was high for hotel guests.

Modern and convenient to city features. No hotel bar or restaurant. Very modern hotel and rooms were very well presented. Clean and comfortable.

Location is great and the view is spectacular. Check in and out was smooth. Room decor seemed a little eclectic. Water was only lukewarm, not hot, both at night and in the morning. We had everything we needed except no washcloths, and I didn't want to bother calling the front desk and waiting for them. No comment sheet in the room, but I left a note.

No sign posted, just a lame "that's what it costs here in the Loop" -- that was over 50% of the price of the room! Not too many options nearby... unstaffed outdoor lot is $25, but probably no in-out. Yeah, I'm from out of town, but thought I'd warn the other out of towners to factor parking into the cost of your stay.

The hotel has a great location, and a great view (if you get the river view room). We did book the river view room, but they did not have any left so we got the city view room (more like alley view). Nonetheless, the experience was great. The hotel staff was second to none. So close to everything. Magnificient mile is on the other side of the river, theatre district is a couple blocks away, millenium mile is a couple blocks, as well. Great experience.

Location. Disappointing room and amenities; expected more for 3.5*.

Well located, very clean, free internet access. Rooms overlooking the river excellent.

When I had my first stay at Hotel 71 a year after it opened I was wowed by the urbane modernity of the place. Neat tall flower and mushroom-styled lamps in the lobby, a chrome and glass bar in the lounge, an incredibly spacious room with a French-inspired divan instead of a couch and a king-sized bed and all the amenities. The view was spectacular (and still is) looking out over the Chicago river with Marina Towers to the left and Tribune Tower to the right (today, Trump International across the river). The desk was perfect for a business person wanting to spread out and I could even put my portable printer on it. Downside...no dresser or chest, only a closet not very strategically located in the bathroom along with two cubbies to serve in lieu of drawers. Subsequent visits just brought growing disappointments each time.... the lounge and restaurant has now been under construction ("being remodeled") for at least four years. The elevators didn't work last trip (fully functional this time--they even advertised, "the elevators have been fixed"). Once, a "River view" room just wasn't. The business center has one computer that prints and one that doesn't. The little convenience 2 cup coffeemaker now comes with a coffee packet that brews colored water--on the second day I put both the caffeinated and decaffeinated packets in just to get something I could taste. The pillows were not comfortable to me or my wife. But the thing that gets me the most is the fact that there is no chest or dresser. You are expected to live out of your bag. I just decided this was the last time I'm going there...though I'll miss the river view and the large working desk.

Great hotel, friendly service. One negative thing...We ordered room service the night before and it was 30 minutes late.

Outstanding location and views. Expensive parking on site and nearby.

Have stayed here several times over the last 3 years. Slow elevator problem seems to be eliminated... we stayed 1/2009 and they were working fine. Location is incredible... views of the river are best in the city. Rooms are fine... they are clean, not huge, but clean and comfy. Staff is always friendly and efficient! GREAT VALUE!

very good and friendly staff. amazing view of Chicago river! all around good hotel!

The room was ginormous! The paint on the tub was peeling off. Recently renovated rooms were spacious and comfortable. Low marks from other reviewers about the elevators and room service have been addressed and were not an issue. The room was big enough to allow me to comfortably work from the convenient separate desk area. However, the (free) wireless was sometimes excruciatingly slow.

Hotel 71 has great decor and great location; but that is where it ends. The elevators were not working properly; we took the service elevators instead to eliminate waiting 10-15 minutes. The rooms were not worth the money. I would not stay here again. Although the staff was curteous.

Given the economy, the price should have been lower.

The room was very nice. I was in the newly renovated side of hotel. No restaurant. Parking at $43 a day was expensive. Hotel 71 is conveniently located to great restaurants and attractions. However, it only provides sleeping quarters. There is no restaurant, only room service. Luckily there is a coffee shop around the corner. The hotel room was clean and newly renovated.

the people that worked at the hotel were very friendly and accomodating to us. We were upgraded free to a corner room with views of the river and city. Are room was very large and worked out great for the family. It was close to everything and we never used our car. I would stay again. The only complaint was the elevator was very slow.

We had a huge corner room with windows on 2 sides. We couldn't have asked for a better view and the location was a short stroll from all the major attractions.

Perfect location, veiw of the river and city. No sauna. Hotel 71, it is in a great central location, only out the front door and your at the start of the magnificent mile, with great views from your room you feel the pulse of the great city of Chicago. The staff are truly pleasant and courteous. I highly recommend Hotel 71, and will return to this fine establishment.

Room okay, bathroom needed updates. corner bakery nearby was very handy. extremely cramped and very very slow elevators ruined the stay. I've never seen such a mess.
