when i arrived at hostal arti, the member of staff i dealt with spoke no english but overcame the language barrier by shouting at me in spanish! i would have left but it was too late and i was in a strange city. very unpleasant introduction to a new city...

Basic but cheap roomsPretty cheap rooms in a good location (very close to the metro stop Plaza de Espana). The room I was given was basic and reasonably small - don't expect too much in terms of extras in the room (just a desk, chair, bed and warderobes). Breakfast was included but is only a slice of toast and tea/coffee. The hostal would be fine for someone travelling alone and who just needs a bed to sleep in.

the hostal was very central, although alot of people bother with the metro, you really don´t need to, it´s much better to see madrid walking, and nothing´s more than 30mins walk away from arti I... the hostal was basic and more like student halls than a hotel... the most basic place i´ve ever stayed and couldn´t imagine anyone older than 21 enjoying it, bathrooms are shared and very dirty, alright for 1 night´s stay but nothing more in my opinion.
