Not BadThe desk Staff knew English and French. Its not a hostel as we would know it, but its less than a hotel. Central and easy access. Fans for air con. but other than that a pleasant experience there.

Great value & locationWe stayed in the only en suite room for 3 nights June 09. The reception is open 24 hours & very helpful, the staff we spoke to spoke & understood English easily & were very nice. There is a computer which can be used during the day for the internet & WiFi in the rooms (I didn't end up needing this). Check in was quick & easy, our room was ready a few hours early too. The room is a comfortable size with a (hard) double bed, and a shower room. The location of Hostal Central is excellent. Less than 5 mins away from La Rambla & even closer to Placa de Catalunya. I always felt safe in the area & in the Hostal. There are many great restaurants nearby. 'Happy Bar & Grill' is a couple of minutes walk away, where I had a very cheap & delicious meal. The Menu Del Dia-three courses, a coke & bread for under 10 euros! If you turn left out of Hostal Central, keep walking until adjacent to the Placa de Catalunya fountains, then turn left & you'll find Happy on your left. For the price of the rooms, I think this hotel is 10/10. It is not modern or luxurious, but it is clean, safe, cheap, well located & friendly. I can't fault it!

Loose women on a short city breakLocation wise is 10 out of 10, right at city centre shopping area, where also open-top buses' starting point. However, pick pockets are really really notorious at bus stops and undergrounds, they are tricky and work in group, there were 4 inccidents happened to us first night when we just arrived at bus station. Both of us concluded staying in open-top bus trips were safer option travelling around the city, and do leave your valuable in safe at hotel. Price for the room is not cheap, though. I can get a very good room for 2 with same price in London with great cooked breakfast.We booked a double room, as they don't have twin room with private bathroom. Room is clean but really disappointingly small, facility is very basic, no air-con in room which is not a very good idea during hot summer; not to mention our double bed is very small, ideal for 2 little kids, not adults actually. We also experienced noise problems. Our room faced to back yard, where noise from neighbours air-con all night long. We request to change room to front, but reception said there is also noise from main road. There were also noise from corridor, most people arrived or returned past midnight, and because most of rooms have no bathroom, people have to use bathroom at corridor, doors slaming loudly all the time, even my ear plugs were not really of any help. There is no tea maker in the room, the only one is by reception, but we can not use it after 10PM for the reason that noise will disturb other hostle mates. People can slam their doors all night long, but not allow to make a cup of tea!

Hostal Central - second visitMy second stay at The Hostal Central (so, obviously, I was impressed enough with the first visit to book again).Great location, friendly staff, good price.Slightly disappointed that, this time, my room didn't have a sink; and even more disappointed to find that, as on my last visit, the shower (a different one to the last time) wasn't attached to the wall, which made showering a bit more of a chore than it could have been.But overall, still recommended.

Highly recomended!!!When we first arrived, we didn't know if we were at the right place, there was a security guard on the door of a beautiful building. Inside, the beautiful red brick, iron stair case and fantastic iron elevator just isn't something you'd expect to find in a youth hostel!The Hostal Central really lives up to its name, a hostel, bang in the centre of Barcelona, just a few minutes walk to the top of la ramble.The rooms were immaculately clean with bedding and towlels provided at no extra cost.For such a fantastic location- this hostel was very good value for money. The staff were very friendly and helpful.I would definately recomend this hostel!

Great location and excellent value for money. Don't expect anything luxurious, but if you're looking for cheap accomodation in the heart of the city...this is the place to go. Easy to get everywhere from here and the shared facilities are nice and clean. Wireless is a bonus, but no tv, which was fine as we spent the whole day sightseeing and partied all night.

Location excellent for the priceThe location of the hostel is absolutely A1- on the Placa de Universitat 1 minutes walk from Placa de Catalunya- the 'gateway to Las Ramblas', and also right near the studenty and funky district of El Raval (think licensed street cafes and bars and vintage clothes shops. Room was clean and functional with comfortable bed- small room but fine for just me which was what I had originally booked the room for. The window overlooked the tiny internal courtyard which was good for ventilation without too much street noise. However the hostel itself is very noisy, and not just street noise (which was almost inaudible with the shutters closed) but noise of boilers and people moving around the building. All other guests were very considerate but if I hadn't taken earplugs I wouldn't have slept well at all. But with earplugs I slept fine and I'm a very light and easily annoyed sleeper. Communal bathrooms clean, not in huge demand and nearby.The staff were pleasant and the communal areas small but nice- no windows in those parts but quite a characterful building. Computer with free internet access and wifi which worked patchily. The breakfast cakes were limited but adequate, and tea and coffee were also available. In summary, I was pleased with the value for money and found it a pleasant stay.

A clean, safe and well located guest house for a stay in BarcaHostal Central is situated only 5 minswalk from Placa Catalunya and La Rambla which is the hub of Barcalona. The Aerobus A1 from the Airport stops at Placa Universitat 2 mins from hostel Central and is the best way to get there. Universitat metro station is also just over the road from the hostel. The rooms are basic but clean and secure the bathroom is adequate with a shower rather than a bath. The florr in the room we stayed in had the original tiled floor and wooden shutters which gave the room charecter. The shutters were effective in keeping street noise out. Although not a 5* hotel I would not hesitate staying at Hostel Central or recomending it to someone who wants value for money in a convenient location just off the main drag.

Cant find anything better at this price!Expected a cheap hostal with only a bed and nothing else to use the room for. But was positively surprised - if you choose the room for 3-4 people to sleep in you get big space and windows out to Ronda d'Universitat. The hostal is close to everything within walking distance. Perfect for young people that need a cheap place to stay in the center of Barca.

couple from englandhostal is in a central position ideal for a short break it is very basic but clean the room we had faced onto the main road and was quite noisey with traffic and you could also hear noise from the metro there are a couple of good restruants either side of the hostal and a couple of bars on the corner both the metro and airobus (bus from the airport runs every six minutes 4 euros fourty each way) stop a couple of minutes walk away the begining of la ramblas is also a couple of minutes walk away taking on board the cost of hotels in barcelona hostal central gives good value for money the reception staff are also very helpfull

Nice Hostel with friendly staff, perfect location (close to Metro, Bus, Place de Catalunya is one stop). The only two points that are not sooo good are: really really small breakfast (better buy your own and store it in the fridge) and the rooms are not so well isolated against noise from neighbouring rooms

CentralThe hostel is in an excellent location close to the shops and very near the bus stop for the aero bus to Barcelona airport. The staff are very kind . Its very good valure for such a good cemtral location near Place Cataluynia and Passeig de Gracias. I would always stay here . Its also very quiet with no traffic noise.

Cheap and convenient for the exhibition centreBasic accomodation, but clean and helpful. Three underground stops away from the Placa Espanya makes it very convenient for events at the Fira Barcelona. Door to door is around ten minutes.

Value for Money at the Centre of BarcelonaFor a basic but clean and perfectly acceptable stay right at the heart of Barcelona this hostal provided a great one night stop over for Dad and two teeneagers - short walking distance from Las Ramblas and a few paces to the Metro it provided a great base for seeing the city. Free WiFi was an added bonus!

The Hostal Central is situated perfectly if you're looking for something in the city centre. Two minutes' walk from the Universitat metro station (and if you're getting the bus from Barcelona airport, that's where the bus drops you off - you need to walk a few more minutes to Placa de Catalunya to get the bus for the return trip, though).The reception staff were friendly and spoke great English, so if your Spanish isn't up to much (like mine!) then there's no problem.The room was fine - reasonably spacious and clean. The window looks out onto one of those interior courtyard thingies - quite a small one. So the room's fairly dark - but that's what light bulbs were invented for. Other rooms will no doubt vary.I had room number eight, on the same floor as reception (the second floor - but there's a lift for those not wanting to walk up the stairs). The shared bathroom was right next to the reception area, which felt a bit awkward when you were using the loo or padding backwards and forwards for a shower. And the shower itself was disappointing: there was no bracket for the shower head, so you had to hold onto it all the time: not ideal, and something that could easily be fixed (take note, Hostal Central!!)There's 24-hour reception, and you need to buzz in on the intercom after a certain time when they lock the outside door, but had no problems with that the night I was there.Breakfast, however, was a bit disappointing: I know that for this money you don't expect five-star haute cuisine; but it consisted of coffee or tea and three bits of cake/croissants. Not the worst breakfast I've ever had (and sometimes you don't get anything) but a bit of ham or some hard-boiled eggs would have been nice.There was no TV in my room (not a deal-breaker) - but there was free wifi, so if you're taking your laptop, you can check up on what's on, or keep in touch with friends back home on Facebook or whatever, which was nice.Overall, a good place to stay - good value, clean, friendly and

very noisy, rooms dirty, bed linen not changed we had long black hairs on our pillows not child friendly, no cots for baby, over all cleanliness very poor, open plan hotel walls built of plaster board, we felt there was no consideration from fellow guests to who was staying in hotel noise went on throughout night

This Hostal/Hotel is AMAZING!!It is just off the top of La Ramblas so very central and within walking distance of everything. The Hostal itself is charming. We arrived at 8pm and we buzzed in upstairs. Out room slept 3 people and had a shower and basin in. We had to share a loo in the hall which was clean and tidy and i never had to wait! The room was well presented with towels and when we pulled back our shutters we had a HUGE balcony in which we could sit and enjoy the evenings - totally unexpected and a lovely bonus. THe staff were really helpful and suggested a few local tavernas for dinner (excellent recommendations!!). 24 reception so we could rock back whenever we fancied. Also internet access was helpful for return journey.The breakfast is minimal - coffee/tea and a pastry, but to be honest it was enough to get you one your way and Barcelona is full of lovely coffee shops to enjoy a more subtantial snack.I would DEFINATELY recommed this Hostal as value for money and would go there again (and ask for the same room). LOVED IT!!!!

It was booked as totally budget accommodation, purely on location, but the staff were friendly and helpful the accommodation very clean, the rooms were basic but perfect for what we wanted and brilliant location.
