Staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the meals were okay but service charge for eating in the bar was not expected

The member of staff from Bulgaria that worked on reception - excellent ambassador for the hotel. Room dirty and internet connection impossible. I had to move on after one night - the room was filthy I do not understand why the charges for internet use are so high in the UK - the service is free in hotels in the states. If it had not been for the help of the member of staff mentioned above I would not have been able to do anything online that night. As a single female traveler I did not like the atmosphere of large crowds of drunk men in the bar - most of whom appeared to be blue collar workers. Consequently I spent most of my time in the room.

Hotel and staff were pleasant, fairly good value for money, but would not pay rates that Holiday Inn site has listed. Only complaint was the price of the drinks at the hotel bar, £5 for a glass of wine.Situated straight off the Motorway/ A roads, but didn't hear any excess noise.Hotel is situated approx 2.5miles from centre of Chester. Was able to get into Chester by using the bus which runs every 10mins or so opposite the hotel up till 11pm. Caught taxi back at night which was approx £6, very reasonable. Free car parking facilities at the hotel also.

Staff was great very friendly and helpful. Shower/tub tiles not clean, nasty and cracked. Good location for highway access and Chester itself. Flexible to turn sofa bed into 2 beds for older kids.

Good value for moneyI found the bar area excellent and the food of a very good quality..........although the bedroom was clean found it a bit tired and old fashioned.

Convenient location, good parking, and a bus stop out front. This is an old Truste House Forte Hotel and it is very outdated by today's standards. The exterior is shabby. Like many hotels that bear the once proud name of Holiday Inn, this hotel is past its prime. The exterior of the building needs immediate attention. They did seem to be working on the interior and it was much improved since my first stay a year ago.

we last stayed at this hotel over 10 years ago. We were impressed by the cleanliness and welcoming feel. The front desk staff were helpful and we enjoyed using the leisure pool. The spa was excellent, perhaps a little hot but better than being cold. Since our last visit the road has been widened and to our delight a park and ride close by enabling ease of access to Chester. Yet close to a main road the hotel feels relaxing, quiet and comfortable. We will come back very soon

The bar is open late. The bartender was grumpy. This hotel is outdated and needs a face lift.

Hol Inn ChesterNo family suite available so used a large double with extra bedsGreat swimming pool and facilitiesGood quality food from the bar menu - we chose lots of different starters and all were v good as well as childrens foodTouch expensive as 4 in one room with no reduction but still worked for us

Hotel was very well presented and the staff were very helpfull and attentive to our needs. My major issue was with the prices charged for bar meals and specifically the lack of choice available for kids meals. The food was excellent but oversized and overpriced and this would put me off using this accommodation again.

The hotel is very unattractive from the outside, but despite refurbishment going on inside the hotel decor was of a good standard.Restaurant expensive but with the children eating free it was value for money. The reception staff were very helpful. Our daughter locked a toy in the safe and the lady at reception ( cant rememember her name but she is from Bulgaria) has very kindly posted it to us and it arrived today, 1 October.

Whilst we were aware the hotel was undergoing refurbishment, the above issues were not directly related to any of this. As we arrived the entire reception area was filled by a coachload of guests and no attempt had been made to clear a path through. We phoned for extra pillows which never arrived, I've had far better quality accommodation for less money, the bathroom was tatty and the bedroom floor stained where the shower leaked through, wallpaper was bubbling from leaking water, and the breakfast was at best warm ... whilst the eggs were always hard.

Whilst the hotel and rooms were clean, spacious and good value, the whole experience was let down by the lack of choice and high prices of the bar. A pint of bitter £3.80; a glass of lemonade £2. No choice of gin - just Blue Sapphire.

Hotel in good vicinity - overall package was good - they just appear to be a bit behind with updating the rooms, ie cracked toilet bowl badly repaired, toilet seat loose.

We stayed here for the Chester Races, perfect place to stay, however take note of the following:As the hotel lets thier guests check out untill 12pm there are no rooms available untill 2pm, which is to late to get ready and get to the races in time for the first race. We booked two rooms and asked if we could have one room to get changed in but the receptionist was quite blunt and said that there was no chance of getting a room earlier. why they don't get people to check out earlier on race day is beyond me!As a result of this you have to go to the gym changing room which gets very cramped and busy as all the guests are in the same boat, 20 women trying to get ready in a small space is not a pretty site! After the races it gets really busy to get Taxi's but a good option is to get the bus, it goes strait passed the hotel but I'm unsure of the number as I was quite drunk when I got on it!I recommend that you eat in the restaurant as it is lovely however be aware that if you go for a night cap, the bar is really expensive and the charge you for service! We got a Double Baileys, Double Brandy and two glasses of house red and it came to £31!! that was more than I'd lost at the races!!

We booked here as a last minute place to stop ready for an early start the next day for the zoo, I wasn't expecting to eat in the hotel but we didn't realise that the races were on in town and all the restaraunts were booked solid, however the food in the hotel was lovely and we enjoyed our stay very much, it was great to be able to go for a swin before breakfast (which was also very good)

Breakfast time was a bit of a let down. Someone had wiped the table shown to us but had not lifted the condiments up so the waiter who took us to the table wiped all the table. The food as good when it arrived but, due to the small dishes in which thebreakfast was placed was small, it soon ran out. No side plates available for your toast and the tea took time to arrive when ordered.

Easy access to Chester . Quiet and clean and tidy with good facilities .Wine prices are a little on the high side
