Dissapointed with the 'executive' room. The air conditioning was noisy but necessary as the windows are permantly locked for safety reasons. The breakfast choice was disapointing, no yogurts, fresh fruit selection limited, no fish and hubby rated the cooked breakfast 5 out of ten. Tea and coffee took 10 minutes to arrive at the Holiday Inn despite 2 reminders!

Good location. Overly expensive, even for coffee/muffins - room was bare bones but clean. Wireless internet was ridiculously expensive compared to other hotels - even in much more expensive hotels in England, there was free internet.

A seriously over-priced hotel! If it really did get 4*s from the Michelin guide (which I doubt) I'd have thought that bribery was involved. The shower was broken and only supplied cold water, the bed collapsed for no apparent reason, and I couldn't get a full English breakfast at 8:30 pm (ok, its called a `breakfast`, but surely its only fried eggs, sausage and bacon, etc. It's not exactly, 'get me a Kalahari Goat-Brain Couscous', is it?) The staff were professional but unhelpful. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to my worst enemy. Avoid this hotel like the plague, and let it die a long-overdue death! On top of all that, I filled these comments into their `report book` on Monday 1st September 2008 (08:15 am BST) and no one has contacted me Wednesday, 3rd September 2008, 21:22 hrs BST. So, their management response to an aggrieved guest isn't exactly greased lightening either! Do yourself a big favour, save your £120/night (concessionary rate!!) and find a cheaper, but undoubtedly, better, hotel.

The staff was excellent, and the location, with the view of the Isle of Wight was fantastic. The parking was very challenging and several nights we parked outside. The Holiday Inn in Portsmouth is an excellent location for a visit to southern England with boat, rail and car connections to all major sites. The rooms were great and the lounge first rate. There are a lot of shopping and dining opportunities within walking distance and kids will fine a lot to keep them occupied as well.

We were not booked in when we got there, so we had a nervous wait as they were fully booked. They locatcated the fax from laterooms and managed to allocate us a room, although it was not ready for an hour. The room was supposedly an 'Executive' but had the tiniest bathroom ever. The quality of the restaurant food was very good, but the waiting staff were rubbish. We had to ask 3 times for water and wine and our 'while you wait' (olives) dish came out with the starter after a 50 mins wait. The main course then came out about 15 seconds after we finished our starter. They did not charge for our starters, but I would prefer decent service.Breakfast was good, although there was a queue to get into the restaurant and old tables were not being cleared for new customers. Waiters and waitresses were constantly complaing about being short staffed. Reception staff were polite.

Room and food at the hotel were great, had good A.C. Location just a little far away from train and ferry. Courteous staff, breakfast was very good, nice room with good amenities.

Very good locality. We had a sea view. Extremely confortable. The breakfast was very good. Very nice atmosphere. Shame I didn't realise there was a pool with other facilities or I would have put my costume in.

Nice location, rooms were spacious. Parking was not too great. A little more pricey than I would have liked. Breakfasts were also quite expensive. Location was excellent. Hotel was clean and staff were friendly.
