We've tried lots of hotels in Paris, and this is one of our favorites. There are many more quaint hotels to choose from in Paris, but if you want a good clean air conditioned room with good service and lots of amenities the Holiday Inn Paris Saint Germain des Pres cannot be beat. For those who want to do business or just can't drag themselves away from the worldwide web, there is wireless internet available in the lobby and wired access in the rooms. (Pricey, but if you need it, its there.) In the St. Germain area, it is a short block from the St. Placide Metro station and therefore very convenient to anywhere you may want to go. The rooms are small, but normal for Paris standards, and the staff are helpful. There is a good breakfast buffet, however we love the little cafe on the corner down the street and got along well with the staff. This hotel is good value for the money (in fact our rate turned out to be even less than advertised!) and highly recommended! This hotel smelled of cigarette smoke throughout. I understand that most Paris hotels are probably no different but still walking through the hallways was an exercise in holding our breath. Our tub drain would not drain out at all the first night. The hair dryer would work off and on. The hallway carpets were very dirty. The morning breakfast was horrible - powered eggs and a poor selection. To boot it was VERY expensive. With all this the staff tried to be helpful and had a good attitude. Situated near key tourist attractions, comfortable, responsive and courteous staff (with the exception of one). Rooms can use upgrading but are comfortable. Internet charges in room are too high at $15E for a day, $6E for one hour. This is a great hotel in terms of location since it's in an interesting area and has a metro station right around the corner. The room was small, as are many in Paris, but it was very clean and the service was great. We'd stay again anytime. This hotel is perfectly located downtown next to lots of boutiques and shops and 1 block from a metro station. It was clean and nice. The hallways and lobby often smelled like cigarettes. This is to be expected in Paris because everyone smokes and they do not have any laws in France about not smoking in certain places. Do not let that keep you from staying in this great hotel.

cheap parkingWe found the room shabby and in need of re furbishing but it was clean and usable and not a bad size for central paris. It was certainly not worth its usual rate but the late room rate was ok. It certainly was not up to the standard we expect from Holiday Inn. The parking is good though. underground and secure and much cheaper than other hotels. If you want a base from which to explore it is in a good position for night life, shops and the metro. A pleasant area to explore, clean streets and we felt safe. would stay again if it was decorated.

Hotel is located within 1 block of Metro stops and 6 blocks from train station(Montparnesse). Very crowded area but becomes easier to navigate when you adust to the FAST pace of life there. Many small restaurants and shops. Bon Marche grocery/department store is 4 blocks away and is amazing! Room was small but clean.

Bog room for Europe. The room was semi dirty. They tried to nickel and dime us to death. I would not recommend. The place that we stayed in London was exactly the opposite. London was friendly and accommodating.

under massive remodeling featuring jackhammer noises as early as 8am... no remodeling mentioned in ONline travel website descriptions. hole in (filthy, coffee stained, skuffed) wall (I have pictures) demolition/remodeling supplies in lobby (I have pictures) unable to manage a continental breakfast despite it costing 24$/us per person leaking, moldy shower/tub this is a Holiday Inn, front desk staff should speak english... but they tried to pull the "I don't speak english" on me... I got them... I speak French... but I saw many frustrated visitors who chose a H.I. so they WOULD have english speaking front desk staff that weren't so lucky. don't stay there.

Daytime desk personnel were friendly and efficient. Night clerk appeared to have been in training and took a long time to assign us our room, even though we had prepaid the reservation. The room we were assigned had water slowly dripping from the ceiling corner over one bed. I just pulled the bed out to avoid the occasional drip. Breakfast was excellent. Children were free. Hotel was conveniently located within walking distance of subway, Eiffel Tower, Palace of Luxembourg, small markets, antique shops, restaurants, and other specialty shops. Airport shuttle needs to be reserved 24 hour in advance. We didn't realize that so we reached the hotel via the Blue train to Chatelet and then the subway to St. Germain des Pres. We walked 6-8 blocks down Rue de Rennes to Rue de Vaugirard. Cost was about 15 Euros rather than 75 Euros for a cab.

The hotel was located very close to the metro station but we walked everywhere. The only way to see Paris is to walk Paris. The Eiffel Tower and the Louvre were only 45 minute walks from the hotel. We really enjoyed the whole city on foot.

Super close to a Metro stop, ice maker available, AC with controllable settings. Not sufficient room to store luggage before / after check in. Good hotel for Americans who want their creature comforts (for example, we have never had an ice machine in any other European hotel), just be prepared for smaller sized rooms than you might expect in the USA.

Room was clean, but worn. Walpaper pealing, simple funishings, room was small, bathroom good size but tile broken in places, bathtub very hard to get into and ackward shower. Asked for a non-smoking room and got it, had to call long distance to request. Safe in room didn't work, asked them to fix it everyday and they never did. Had to put jewlery and passports in the safe at the front desk-pain! Staff was helpful and friendly. Don't get the breakfast-powdered eggs, and very simple fare for 18 euros each (27 dollars U.S.)!!! Lots of reasonable delicious pastry shops within walking distance where you can get quiche and pastries for 6 euros for 2 people.

Location. Staff was unfriendly. Does not compare favorably to other hotels in the same category.

Nice and clean hotel, reasonable size room and bath. Great location 50 yds from St. Placide metro station and close to Montparnasse district. Close to good patissiere and small market. Great restaurant recommendation from the front desk for Sud-Quest, which was particularly english tourist friendly. Very pleasant for our first stay in Paris

Location, cleanliness, friendliness and extreme effort to accommodate patrons. Breakfast buffet was one price. If you just wanted coffee and cereal you still paid for full meal. Rooms were very large. Especially compared to most European hotels. Bathroom facilities was excellent and again large. Beds very comfortable and nicely decorated. Have already recommended to friends going to Paris. Location was great! Metro around corner and close to all attractions. Would tell anybody it is worth well worth the price.

Spent four nights here in Nov 2006. Rooms are small compared to USA, but the bathroom is modern and quite large for Paris. Hotel is right next to two metro lines, so it is easy to get around. You can walk to the Paris nightclubs in Montparnasse. Staff is very helpful.

The location was great; you could walk to all tourist attractions. There was some mildew on the ceiling and in the closet. The hotel was in a great location where we could walk to all tourist attractions. Located in a quiet neighborhood area in a historic building. The bed was so comfortable and the bathroom was very nice and newer fixtures were there. Use the Air France shuttle bus to get to this location, which is a short walk from the bus stop.

Very nice rooms and great location, one block from a Metro entrance. When we asked a concierge for a restaurant recommendation, they're response was, "I don't know, I don't live around here". This was a very nicely appointed hotel, the facilities were clean and well decorated. The evening staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The location can't be beat, you're one block from a major metro stop and there are blocks and blocks of cute little restaurants surrounding the hotel.

Cleanliness and location. Room is tiny. Meet the standard of Holiday Inn chain.

This location was within walking distance to whatever you wanted to see on the Left Bank. Was under renovation and halls were sometimes cluttered. This hotel was perfect for seeing all the major sights in Paris. It was convenient, on the both the metro and bus lines within a block. Also had great little markets on the street for produce, meats, baked goods and laundry mat. We loved out location.

The location was great and the room was wonderful in terms of being comfortable and clean. There is nothing we didn't like. This is a great hotel in terms of location since it's in an interesting area and has a metro station right around the corner.
