We have been to San Diego a lot, stayed at a couple of other Hotels,but nothing as nice and so close to everything as The Holiday Inn on the Bay is.You can walk to so many places.We went to Sea World,the Zoo,The park,took a train ride,did so many things.

It was conveniently located with a friendly and courteous staff. We were within walking distance (about 1 mile) of the Seaport Village, Harbor and the shopping mall. The free shuttle to the airport and San Diego Zoo was a bonus that we didn't expect but really appreciated.

The Only good thing about this hotel is the Location. other wise they try to charge you for everything. 20 for parking, thats way to much when your already paying alot for a very small room.

I stayed six nights and enjoyed the hotel very much. The room had a modern bathroom and nice starchy-white clean linens. Mine was fairly quiet as hotel rooms go and overlooked the pool which has a nice palm tree setting. I liked being able to walk either to the waterfront for a stroll or up Broadway for food and drinks. Being in downtown San Diego means there is always something to do. The only downside to this hotel is the $22/day charge to park a vehicle there. That adds up quickly!

It is within walking distance to many attractions and right by the water. Only that the room I got didn't face the ocean!

It is well worth a few extra dollars for the bay view rooms. The view was amazing, both day and night. Location was good. Right across street from cruise ships, the Midway aircraft carrier and the harbor and whale cruise boats. A little walk to the Seaport Village and Gas Lamp district but it was very pretty and a good way to get in a little sightseeing. Can catch Trolley just a couple of blocks away. Rooms were very clean, beds were comfortable. Restaurant had a great breakfast for less than $10. Bar was hopping. Desk staff was friendly, concierge was a little indifferent but not rude. Only one computer to use for looking up restaurants, attractions or to get directions. Lack of whirlpool was disappointing. Overall a great place to stay and would certainly stay again.

The Holiday Inn San Diego on the Bay is priced decently for it's location, but the hotel needs to be updated. Our bed was rock hard, the TV had channels that didn't work and the furniture had seen better days. The elevators in the south tower were a bit of an adventure if you looked on the bright side and frightening if you didn't. However, the staff kept the room fairly clean. We love the ocean view room and the close location to downtown. Plus, it's a quick drive to the zoo/balboa park and many other POIs. Free wifi was a nice touch too. This was our 3rd stay at the hotel in the past 5 years and though prices always go up as time goes by, it doesn't seem like the profits are being put back into the hotel as much as they should. Though we would stay here again, we'll probably change up our hotel choice for some variety on our next trip. That'll probably mean spending more money.

great location and nice staff. but we were there 7 days and had no tub just a shower, which would have been fine, but my little man was really too big for the sink and hates showers. i didn't realize san diego was so cool (currently sweating in louisiana)and it was too cold to swim for me, would have been nice with a hot tub. a friend of mine stayed not too far away with a tub and continental breakfast for about the same price.....

Convience to many activities SD has to offer. The hotel could use a remodel, I am in the hospitality industry also. Initial greeting was great, Valley parking personnel were awesome, people friendly, rooms and halls are in bad shape, lobby looked good.

Overall we had a good stay, the rooms were clean, tidy and the beds comfortable. It was great to walk out the door and be right on the water, the proximity to the airport was great and it was only a ten minute ride to the MCRD. The staff were helpful and pleasant. We enjoyed the attatched pub, The only drawback was the trains, they woke us up every night!!! I would have to rethink staying again, maybe a room closer to the front would help.

Overall the hotel is nice and is in a good location. Expect to pay an extra fee to park your car in the hotel's parking lot. With no where else to park in the area your locked in to paying. You paid enough money to stay at the hotel it should include parking.

We enjoyed staying in the room and watching the Bay, the Boats and the people. The small extra charge for the Bay view is so worth it. The Shuttle Van service saved us the price of the rental car, a real plus.

This hotel was great. Customer service was great, location was great, safety and security was great, bed and bathroom was great. Hotel had a restaurant on site- great too. Definitely would stay again and recommend.

1. Rooms on the city side can be extremely noisy, with train horns blowing at 1AM. They *will* wake you up. The cruise ship horns on the bay side will do the same. 2. Room keys that need to be reprogrammed every single day - borders on absurd.3. Painfully slow elevators, especially when you have to go back down to the lobby to get your room key fixed every day. Glass elevator apparently has no functioning air conditioning and was easily over 100 degrees inside.4. In-room entertainment doesn't work. Ordered a movie and it wouldn't show up on the screen until 14 minutes in. Rewound to the beginning, but the system stopped working altogether halfway through the movie. On-site engineering could not fix the problem.5. Room service orders that don't ever show up. You fill out the card. They take the card. They never deliver your breakfast.6. Very noisy room air conditioners.7. Stains in carpet.I don't think this hotel is typical of or fairly represents the Holiday Inn brand, because I've been in some really nice ones. The staff was apologetic and offered free nights, but seemed uninterested in fixing any of the problems or getting to the bottom of why they weren't capable of successfully providing the most basic services.

We were attending a conference at another hotel near the convention center but stayed at this one because the prices were slightly cheaper but it was a 1 mile walk every morning and evening which got old very quick! I think that it would have been worth staying at the conference hotel for the extra $/night. The beds were small and not very comfortable. overall it wasn't a bad stay, staff was friendly and courteous and the hotel was clean but had the design was somewhat outdated. It was a pretty ordinary, acceptable stay but not ideal for what I needed it for.

Very clean. Train noise really close. Hotel was very nice but you have to pay to park at the hotel and it is not cheap! $22 per night to self park or $28 per night to valet.

Hotel was clean and room appeared to have been recently remodeled with good space to store luggage. Hotel was very near trolley station (at most ten minutes walk) and bus stop (outside the door) so no need to rent a car. Rooms had balcony. Reasonably priced coffee stand in lobby 6-10 AM. Pool was heated but is outdoors so weather a bit cool. Fitness room OK. Adjoining Hazelwoood deli was overpriced for breakfast for what you got.

After looking over so many recommendations, I booked on line for a double room at the Holiday on the bay at San Diego. I asked for an early check in and to be in the south Tower close to the elevator. We were picked up at the airport and had very pleasant help with our bags and all questions answered. We got exactly what I had asked for with NO Hassel, the desk couldn't have been nicer. We spent the day over on Coronado ( walking a short distance to the Ferry) and the next day we had free transportation to the cruise ship terminal and again good help with the bags ( heavy for us women) I asked for a courtesy hour late check out so we wouldn't be over there too early, again, no problem, couldn't have been nicer. We just had to have our room keys redone so they would work after noon. The food at the hotel was good, except for the pizza we had delivered from in-house ( it was fair--not much different than dominoes, except more expensive) that said, the breakfast the next morning was good and well priced for the area. they have nice outdoor seating too. If you are wondering where is a good place to stay overnight to see San Diego and hop on the cruise ship--this is your place. Thanks to the other travelers who rated this hotel for us. the airport noise was not bad at all--it is near an airport, and people surely know there will be planes......it didn't bother us.
