We found this hotel to be well placed for buses into the city centre as we did not want to drive there because a few roads are being dug up for the new tram line. The hotel is situated on the main road in from the North and was easy to find. The room had brilliant views over the firth towards the North and also the Castle. Reception couldn't find our reservation number on the system but it wasn't a problem. For the next couple of weeks there is a bar/dining refurbishment going on in the hotel and meals and drinks are served on the mezzanine floor. The room tv sets have a limit on the volume button and we found it difficult to hear the sound. Overall, the hotel was a great base for exploring the city and we enjoyed our stay.

Not the best location for a March (2008) visit to Edinburgh - it was snowing! It's almost a 2 mile walk to the city center and with teenagers and cold weather, that's too far to walk....so hire a small car! Staff could be friendlier but the hotel was just fine for a one week trip to the old country.

The guy at the desk when we showed up was most helpful and very friendly and entertaining. A little further from the City Center than I had wanted, but the bus stop was right outside. The ride into town couldn't have been more than 10 min.

The room was great, the people wonderful. My only complaint is the same food every day. We have a toddler and breakfast was easier downstairs. One can only eat so many hash browns. However we are looking to book again so its worth the visit. Also handy to downtown via taxi or bus.

The price. It was a bit far from city center Great hotel, a bit far from city center, but the bus is easy to get to. They should have had more info on the bus routes.

Had an excellent weekend stay. The hotel is great for getting into town.

Comfortable and clean with a great viewClean and very comfortable. Great VFM. View in the morning from the 5th floor was great.I rang twice for an ironing board which never arrived, although I think the systems were down, so there was a bit of a panic on.

No self serve laundry, their laundry service was outrageously priced.

"On one of the hottest days in Edinburgh, the air conditioning system ceased to function in my room. The staff at the front desk, including the assistant manager, refused to help except to go out and buy a small desk fan. The desk people made a lousy situation even worse."

Mediocre onlyThis is a dispiriting place to stay. One person manning reception, even at really busy times, poorly stocked bar, indifferent breakfast, broken hand driers, no soap in the dispensers, and so on. All the kinds of things that make stays in mid-price British hotels so disappointing.

It was a nice hotel. It was way too far outside of town. Great hotel but a car is necessary. There is a bus, but it is pretty inconvenient and stops running prior to midnight.

Family stayRoom was clean, well appointed and large. There is a small playground out front with squirrels for the kids to see and they loved it.Parking is off-road and there is a bus service across the road into the centre of town if you don't want to drive your car.

Outstanding view of the town centre and castle. A 30 minutes walk to the downtown. Overall nice hotel. Some difficulty checking out.

Quiet hotel, a bit far from the city centre but the panoramic view of Edinburgh from our window was wonderful. Staff were nice an helpfulOn the other hand, the furniture is a bit tatty esp in the dining area.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel was clean and had excellent parking facilities. Food and drink were a bit pricey. We would stay at this hotel again. Our room was on an upper floor with excellent views of the city of Edinburgh and Edinburgh Castle. Taxi fares from the hotel to Edinburgh city center were very reasonable so you can leave your vehicle in the car park from the time you arrive until the time you depart. Beds were very comfortable.

Clean, comfortable bed and nice view of the city. Small and there was work being done on the floor outside my room. Clean and comfortable, although a bit small.

A great room - picture window with marvellous view from top floor

Good beds. Very noisy; staff at reception not very friendly. The second night of my stay, there were noisy people going up and down the hall half the night, continually slamming doors, talking loudly. The next night, there was loud music from a function directly beneath my room. When I phoned to complain, I was told basically nothing could be done about it until it was over.
