Walking with DinosaursLooking for a hotel for a visit to Metro Radio Arena to see Walking with Dinosaurs, the hotel seemed ideal. Booking in was simple and the room was clean and comfortable. The restaurant, however, was a let down at breakfast. There seemed to be no proceedure for topping up empty dishes without staff being asked, although there were plenty of staff on duty.

The Holiday Inn Newcastle was a great location for a person who is taking several day trips while in England. A large well lit free parking lot is on site. This is often hard to find in a lot of European communities. It has quick access to several main arteries in the Newcastle area. By using their breakfast buffet, you can be on the road quickly first thing in the morning. They are also located right next to a gas station for that last fillup before heading to the Newcastle Airport. The rooms are large, clean and comfortable. And did I mention that nicely heated tile floor in the bathroom? One of the drawbacks included computers in their business center which wouldn't connect with the internet so I couldn't confirm my flights on line.

Nice size room for European hotel. Wedding reception got a little noisy. Nice hotel, big rooms by European standards, easy to find.

Business trip to CramlingtonRooms were clean but starting to look dated. Limited choice of channels on the tv. Bathroom was adequate but again was in need of refurbishment with grout missing from some of the tiled areas and small areas mould showing on the sealant. Beds were comfy and the self service buffet breakfast was excellent with enough choices to satisfy most people. On the whole a pleasant experience but I intially doubted picking this hotel as when checked in someone was having a blazing row with the hotel manager via the phone at the reception desk.

A Good Base for the Newcastle AreaThe Hotel made excellent arrangements by accommodating special requests and the staff were both helpful and friendly.The rooms were clean and well appointed and represented an ideal base for visiting the area.The hotel is a little dated (typical of the era in which it was constructed) but the staff and general standards made up for that.

I booked this hotel knowing its location in relation to Newcastle city centre (ie no-where near it!) however I would stress to anyone unfamiliar with the area that whilst this hotel is very clean, comfortable and good value for money, it really is in the middle of no-where and you'll need to spend quite a bit on taxi fares if you intend going backward and forward to the shopping and nightlife of the city as there are no buses or Metros.

Not very impressedThe hotel staff were very rude, on the 3 times I visited the reception desk the girls were gossiping amongst them selves. I found the room fairly clean but the bathroom had brown dirty splash marks running down the back of the door. I ordered room service - the food didnt arvive as dexcribed on the menu - it had items missing. I meal was then distubred by the waiter demanding I go to the bar and pay for the food! I was not impressed as I was clearly in the miidle of my food. I went to pay for the food an hour or so later which I was then again made to feel uncomfortable at the bar as the attendant seem to tell me off in front of other customers that I hadnt been to pay for the food earlier - at no point was I asked if the food was ok. The following morning when I went to the front desk to check out - the girls again were chatting - I was asked for my room number then handed a receipt, then the girls contined to chat, forgeting to ask if I had had a good stay. Again I was not impressed with this service, I found the staff very rude and the hotel over priced!

Hope you aren't hungry!We arrived in the evening after a long journey feeling tired and hungry. We entered our room to discover quite a large rip in the curtain. Just a small point you might think, but it was indicative of poor attention to detail. Later my wife wanted to wash her hair (there was no shower cap) and was cold in bed (there was no spare blanket) but that's another story.Arriving at dinner we were a little taken aback at the price of the carvery (nearly £12 a head) but figured that we could probably go back up as many times as we wanted and after our long journey would probably have eaten bootlaces on toast.Anyway, we get up to the carvery and the surly chef 'introduces' us to the various dishes (only one joint of meat which was ham which neither of us liked) so we opted for the coq au van. We dipped into the dish under the watchful glare of the chef (presumably) to ensure we didn't take too much (as if we'd want to!) we discovered that the chicken in the dish wasn't breast meat but what looked like thighs and skinny ones at that! not a happy experience, but damned expensive one for that we had.That said, the staff overall were very helpful and friendly, the breakfast ample, and the overall experience not too bad. Would we go back? not really, there are too many other options locally. Get your act together Holiday Inn.

We thought the hotel was excellent value for money. It did look a little dated but the rooms were clean and had everything you needed and there was a good choice at breakfast. The kids loved coming back to play in the pool and the staff were really friendly.

great for couples, not for familiesvery clean and tidy rooms with a great hot pool, great food, a really great hotel to stay at, apart from it gets rather noisy with stag and hen parties coming in late along the corridor, doors and walls are not soundproof, such a shame.

Hiliday InnNice hotel, well situated with good secure parking. Full marks to the very friendly and helpfull staff. Great breakfast and good bar meals if a little pricey. Nice rooms although the bathroom could do a makeover of the tiling, other than that highly recommended and would definitely use the hotel again.

No recognition of platinum status Priority Card. No lunch time restaurant service. Poor bar food service. Poor bar food. No additional beds in Matthew Elsoms room despite having requested it albeit they were eventually provided. Not the best of experiences!

Review by family staying at Holiday Inn, NewcastleCheap place to stay just 15mins outside Newcastle. Beware if you stay on a Friday or Saturday night that the hotel may have a lot of groups of males/females staying who are using it as a base to go partying in Newcastle. They will be back between 12 - 5am and boy will you know about it.

I would most definately stay here again, the staff and service was excellent. Our booking was messed up for antother nights stay, but the young lady on reception went to a lot of trouble to sort it out.

Great stay - but food could be betterThis was an easy and inexpensive stopover - but the food at dinner and breakfast left a little to be desired. The former may have been an isolated incident, but the breakfast ingredients seemed mostly to be of poor quality.

Hotel was showing it's age, in need of decoration. First room we were offered had a very strong smell of smoke. We were moved very easily. Breakfast had good range of hot and cold food. Was not so pleasant seeing colleague emptying fresh bacon on top of the old bacon with all grease included. Pool was nice, water warm as advertised for a change !!! Changing rooms very small. All in all a disappointing visit to celebrate family birthday. Would not return.

Good value hotel outside Newcastle. Lovely big rooms.Pool area rather small and could do with an update and children's swimming lessons seemed to be going on whenever we wanted to go in there.
