Holiday Inn Chester RacecourseDidn't arrive until 8pm and wanted to go for a drink around town as soon as possible so checked in and went straight to our room to get changed . Room very clean and modern with everything you needed and the bathroom had an excellent power shower - really powerful , not like the trickle you get from some hotel showers. Would have prefered a racecourse view but as I didn't ask for one it is the luck of the draw where your room is . Had a great night around Chester and was pleased to see the bar was open until 2am when we got back , so had another drink there. Didn't think much of the bar area but it was a nice night so sat outside. Wanted a lie in the next morning so can't comment on what breakfast was like. I was very pleased that they let me leave my car in the hotel car park for free after checking out so that we could do some shopping - hotel only 5 minutes walk from the town centre so is in an ideal position.

Location is really good, close to walls, overlooks racecourse, free parking, short walk into town, modern and clean. Only problem was the poor sound insulation from other guests on our floor - as another reviewer has said, echoey corridors, banging doors - so when groups return at 1-2 am you get woken up, and they weren't really being rowdy. We did stay on a Friday night, and maybe its only an issue on Fri & Sat, but worth thinking about if you'd like to sleep.

The rooms are alittle small. All doors need rubber closures as all bang shut-and in the middle of the night! We asked for a quiet room but were disturbed by drunken youths returning at 3.00 in the morning. Reception should have known that the likelihood of that happening was high in putting us in small corridor with them in two adjoining rooms (and the rest of the hotel was pretty empty)

Excellent location, just 10 minutes walk from the centre of Chester (and on the racecourse).Clean, modern hotel. Basic, but filling continental breakfast.Handy having the free parking so close to Chester

The first time I stayed there, it cost me £ 65 and the second time went up to £95. If this is the regular price, I will refrain from staying there in future. This is far too expensive.

friendly and helpful staff, apart from the young man, who directed me to the lift to take me to the third floor, clutching suitcase and laptop, only to find the lift broken and cordoned off, leaving me to struggle upstairs, unaided, in (very) high heels.I found it very expensive for what it was. The hotel is soulless, and feels very spartan and basic, albeit in a good position for exploring the city, which I wasnt!

A clean functional hotel which is well located if you're visiting Chester City Centre and particularly Chester racecourse which is literally on the doorstep. Predictably, the price of staying in the hotel doubles on race days. Staff were friendly and helpful. We stayed on New Year's Eve and the atmosphere within the hotel was really good in the bar area with everyone in a party mood as they were getting ready to go out. An iron and ironing board were scarce on the night and I ended up roaming the corridors to try and find one that had been left outside someone's door. Apart from that I have nothing negative to say about this hotel, which is competitively priced when compared to others of a similar standard and in a similarly convenient location. Breakfast was continental in a buffet style and included in the price. This hotel is suitable for families and people of all ages and would be a good choice for those visiting Chester for the first time.

The room was extremely cold. We left the heater on whilst we went out, but of course it went off as soon as we removed our room key. We left the room key in the electric slot overnight, but it was still extremely cold. There is no wardrobe, just a couple of metal bars to hang clothes, but they were not high enough.
