It was a very busy weekend in Charleston with the Vandalia Gathering, the WV high school track meet, as well as being Memorial Day weekend. The hotel was packed with many students, coaches, and families attending the track meet but the hotel was still quiet and restful. The staff was friendly and helpful. The buffet breakfast was very nice with quite a choice of breakfast foods. Even though there were many student athletes to feed, the buffet was never empty.

Complimentary hot breakfast was great--lots of variety. Holiday Inn Express is a friendly, clean, nice-looking hotel that exceeded our expectations.

Soon after settling down in our room, we discovered we were locked in our room! The deadbolt was stuck in the locked position and the knob on the door would just spin around and around. We called the front desk and soon after, a staff person came and started trying to open the door with the "emergency key". It failed. She told us she would call the security guard (he never did come), the staff member told us to open our sliding window as much as we could, she handed us a tiny screwdriver and told us to break the lock on the window (didn't work). One person in our party had to crawl out a 6 inch space to go get a multi-tool our of our car. After breaking the lock to get the window open, the staff member tells us, "well I guess you were going out for the night, just close the window behind you, let me know if you descide you want another room!" We were so upset, demanded another room (which we did not pay for), and had to move all of our belongings out the open window and in a back entrance door. The staff member did not offer to help us do any of this and simply stated, "I am so sorry I got so frustrated!" This is a safety concern, I will always request a first floor room and carry a multi-tool with me traveling, and NEVER stay here again!

Good place to sleep that's about it. I stood in the lobby when I arrived to check in, the clerk was working on something at her computer, and did not acknowledge my presence for about two minutes. It was a very awkward and uncomfortable situation. Staff overall was minimally friendly.

Staff was very friendly on check-in, and was aware that at a female traveling alone on business, safety and security is an important issue. I have stayed at Holiday Inn Express in other cities, and have found all of them to be a great value.

The price was right and the hotel staff were helpful. The room decor and bathroom fixtures were dated. The hotel was nice and within the parameters I would have expected for a 2-star moderate hotel. The included breakfast was certainly a step above the typical continental breakfast. The common spaces were clean and attractive. The water pressure was phenomenal.

Easy on and off I-64. Right next to mall and lots of food. Continental breakfast at hotel was good. Traveled with 5 month old and were able to sleep well even with a hotel full of AAU basketball teams.

The Holiday Inn Express Inn in Charleston, W.V. was conveniently located downtown. The staff were friendly and attentive. My asthma also was aggravated by the cheap cherry-scented sanitizer spray used in the rooms. I stay at Holiday Inn Express whenever I travel and this is the first time I have encountered this problem. I even spoke to the very nice cleaning staff about it and was told there wasn't a room in the hotel that wasn't doused with this cheap sanitizer. Luckily it was mild enough to open a window and air the place out. We kept the do not disturb sign on the door for 3 days so as not to have our room sprayed again Anyone with chemical sensitivity might consider requesting that their room not be sprayed with the sanitizer. On a positive note the hot breakfast in the morning was a nice touch

Nice big room. Clean. The beds were wonderful - great mattress - wonderful sheets - as nice as I have at home. We couldn't figure out how to use the TV remote ... at 9pm on Saturday night the front desk sent someone very quickly to show us how to work it. Great location -walk to lots of restaurants and shopping. A stone's throw from the convention center. Lots of free parking. What's not to like? I'd stay there again in a heartbeat. I've paid alot more for alot less.

I thought I was taking a chance staying at a 2-star hotel, but this was very comfortable with a nice breakfast. Nothing fancy, and no pool or hot tub, but I like how they have multiple ""hard"" or ""soft"" pillows to pick from and comfortable beds. I should not have rented a car. I could walk most places in downtown Charleston.

There was no bar soap left in the bathroom (nor shampoo, etc) and I had to call the front desk for soap. It was brought up to my room immediately.

Clean for the price. Did not call us for the wake-up call so we were late.

Maybe it was my fault, but we arrived at this hotel at midnight. The complimentary breakfast was over at 9 AM and we did not partake in it for obvious reasons. The price that I paid here was no where near what it deserved even on a good day. This location is not recommended.
