Date of Stay:
June, 2009
When we arrived to check-in, we were told to wait for available rooms, we did'nt have rooms waiting for us. We booked for 2 rooms, 4 adults and 4 children but were eventually given two rooms with just one king size bed each. We were not given any choice but to take the rooms. We were issued a small portable bed with springs protruding. I was so happy to be back home since I just have the worst hotel experience of my life. I was hoping to stay in riverwalk hotel but ultimately disappointed that this hotel is around slums.

After reading some very poor reviews I was concerned. I must say I was very pleasantly surprised. The room was very nice and super clean. All of the staff I dealt with were pleasant and helpful. I would certainly stay there again.

Room was cleaned better than bathroom. Was beyond my expectations!

The beds are extremely small and the volume on the tv did not go loud enough. The elevators are not located in places that would allow for easy acccess to rooms in the rear. Also don't plan on doing laundry there is only 1 washer and 1 dryer for 4 stories. On the bright side the dryer was free! There was not a gameroom as advertised and the kids were really disappointed. The pool area is nice and the breakfast buffet was a pretty good deal!

My husband and children stayed at the Holiday Inn Market Square In June. Had a great time. Super staff and comfortable beds with lots of pillows. All new bathrooms. They have newly renovated the hotel and restaurant. Stayed here about 2 years ago and what a change. The housekeeper could not have been nicer, left extra towels & stuff. Pool is huge - has new furniture and pool towels. Went to dinner at La Margarita's - only two blocks. Nice breakfast - kids ate free.

We requested a fridge and a crib, and got them (plus a microwave)right away. The only thing I was disappointed about was that there were not alot of restaurants close by that were open after 2. We found the staff to be friendly and most were very informative about places, directions, things to do, etc. the shuttle was available to take us downtown to the riverwalk, and the driver was very helpful. there is a trolley car and the bus that are inexpensive to ride too, that go by the hotel). The room itself was big and comfortable, we had a king bed and pull out sofa bed. we were there for 4 nights and were on the main floor, we didn't hear much noise from traffic. The pool area was not too bad (it was fenced in), with a hot tub/jacuzzi outside. There was an exercise room and also self service laundry ($1.00 to wash and free dryer, on the 4th floor). One thing I wish we had was more bath towels in the room and hangars, but we were able to get more when we asked. The mercado (market) is a couple of blocks away and an easy walk with the kids (ages 7 and 1). Parking was good at the motel. We never ate at the motel dining room so I am not sure how that was. All in all, I would recommend this hotel to others, if they didn't care if they were right on the riverwalk area.

For the most part the hotel was fine. The bathrooms were small and there wasn't a hanging rack for clothes. When the room was cleaned after the first night, we had to call the front desk to have towels brought up because they took all the towels we had hung to reuse and didn't replace them.

excellent pool & hot tub area - after a long day's drive, relaxing in the hot tub was great. the hotel was clean and conveniently located. near the police station so it felt secure. they were doing small renovations (painting mostly) but did not interfere with the stay at all.

The hotel was being rennovated during our stay and we were not advised of this when we booked the room. There was a awful paint smell throughout the entire hotel. My kids got sick to their stomachs. After several phone calls to the front desk and our travel agent the hotel finally moved us to a section of the hotel with a not so strong paint smell. I have to give the front desk credit for this, but they refused to offer us a refund when I told them my kids were getting sick because of the paint smell. Location is a good 20 minutes from the riverwalk, so keep this in mind. They did have security in the parking lot to watch over your vehicle. We were there for spring break and went to Sea World. We had easy highway access to all locations.

This was a very nice hotel to stay at. The beds and pillows were very comfortable. The room was good size. We had a roll away bed because we have 3 children and the extra bed fit fine in the room with our luggage we didn't feel too squished in. Room cleaning each day was not the best, garbage not emptied, not enough towels, floor not vacuumed. The staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel felt secure and no worries about our rental car in the parking lot. We stayed here for 3 nights. A couple of things I did not like...we had booked this hotel based on the description of being within walking distance to the Riverwalk. With children (8-11 yrs. old) this was NOT walking distance to the Alamo and Riverwalk. Which meant we had to pay $12 to park closer. I would have paid a little extra to be closer to the the Riverwalk area. The second issue was the dining. We had not stayed at a Holiday Inn before but I was familiar with the kids eat and stay free. We had breakfast at the hotel one morning and the prices were very expensive. Even with 2 free kids meals and the adults ordering minimal things, it was the most expensive breakfast I have ever had. Overall this was a good experience, just wanted you to be aware of a couple of things.

A friend of mine and I decided to spend a few days in San Antonio to watch the Alamo Bowl. The Market Square Holiday Inn seemed like a decent place to stay- it was relatively inexpensive and somewhat close to the downtown area. When we got to our room, there were several items left by the previous occupants and the bathroom was dirty. Also, the TV didn't work. I told the front desk, and decided to head downtown. The desk person assured me that it was walking distance. What they didn't tell me was that the hotel is located in a very bad neighborhood! The following night, my friend was mugged walking home less than 1 block from the hotel. He wasn't hurt very badly, and decided to try and not let it ruin his trip. When we returned from the police station, we discovered some uninvited guests in our room. 10-15 cockroaches fanned across the room as I turned on the light. Disgusted, I informed the manager. He apologized and offered to move our room, but said that he couldn't guarantee that any other room wouldn't be infested. I asked him to at least have someone go in the room and spray roach spray. While we waited for our room to be fumigated, we figured some wings from the hotel restaurant might lighten our mood. For reasons unexplained, our waitress was extremely rude. When we had had enough, we asked for our check. 20 minutes later, we had to ask the bartender for it, as our waitress had disappeared. When she finally showed up, she slapped our check down so hard that the table shook and walked away without a word. In conclusion- stay away from this place! You will be disappointed

Good comfortable, good location, friendly staff, easy to locate. None observed. Good hotel for families. Very clean rooms, very comfortable beds with a pillow menu. The staff is very friendly, and for the most part, a very quiet hotel where the traffic in the hallway went almost completely unheard.

I went to visit my Fiance who is stationed at Ft Sam. I decided to book here despite some of the bad reviews I read. Upon arrival I was very satisfied with this hotel.. The first room they put me in was still dirty from the previous guests, so I went to the front desk and with out any questions they moved me to a different room. The rooms were very clean. The bathrooms were renovated and very nice, the beds were comfy, the AC worked well. There was always enough towels, trash and room was cleaned each day. I ordered room service and I received it very fast it was excellant. The guy made sure everything was fine and even ran my credit card downstairs and brought back up the receipt. My last morning I was there the electricity in the whole hotel went out. This made it difficult to pack my suitcase but a lady was going around giving our flash lights and glow sticks and making sure anyone didnt need anything. I would stay again
