beautiful view from room, food was lovely, great brealfast menu, dinner was just lovely and would reccommed a visit here, bring golf clubs too

Good if pricey This hotel has a fabulous location but like so many irish hotels it puts the car park beside the view and the hotel behind the car park - why?? The hotel is or looks new but is a bit fake olde worlde in reception which is a shame - the spa reception is clean and crisp . Staff are upbeat and helpful. The room was very large and well equipped., with everything we needed. On the day the dining options were limited and certainly not appealing to vegetarians - a menu offering one 'vegetarian option' isn't exactly offering much of a choice and an table d'hote for 40+ euros with a basic vege pasta mains is overpriced.Nice breakfast although it could be a bit more Irish (where have the potato cakes gone?).Beautiful area - if a bit midge infested!

We were given one of the older rooms in the hotel and they were more 2* than 4*. Tatty old bathrooms. 70's style decor in the room- cold at night- stifling dry heat in the morning. If I was to return I'd book through the hotel to ensure we got a decent room.

What a beautiful setting! Despite the rain the hotel looked impressive from the exterior. The reception lobby was spacious and checking in was carried out qiuckly and in a very friendly manner. We were even given a room with a view without even asking for one. The room itself was large and well appointed. The bed was large and very comfortable, made up with crisp white bedding, wonderful!In the carvery where there was plenty of choice. The food was quite good but not remarkable. The guinness was perfect. Breakfast in the morning was buffet style, well presented and again plenty of choice. The pool area looked very enticing. We would love to return and make use of it.

fantastic location, friendly staff great food - next time I will bring golf clubs as athlone gc is right on the doorstep. Weddings both nights of our stay and got a little noisy later on, but all in good spirit and not a problem, although if I had young children I would avoid wedding nights!
