we booked this hotel for one night as a last minute offer, we had not seen the hotel before we booked. on arrival we were amazed by the location and the appearance of the hotel it is beautiful. when we entered the decor was not to our taste as it was very dated however it was clean and very well presented. the staff were friendly and happy to help. The atmosphere was a little tense at dinner as the other guests were much older than us and appeared to be or think they were of a higher class than us, we were watched and scrutinized whilst eating ( or this is how it felt anyway )i must add that this was only made uncomfortable by the other guests, the staff were welcoming and treated us like everyone else which was great. I would recommend the hotel to others however it would probably be to my grandad and his friends. This is not a place for the younger guests. The accomodation was large and clean and the beds were very comfortable. We had an enjoyable stay although we felt pressured to stay in our room by the other guests.

Great Hotel in pleasant surroundingsThe building retains the quality and style of a traditional country hotel and the service also retains those little things that make a big difference - Chocolates and homemade biscuits are a nice touch (and I have to say the biscuits are great) and the staff are very polite & helpful.Breakfast doesn't start until 7.30am which is a little late if you are a business traveller but I'm sure if I had asked they would have accomodated an earlier breakfast for me.The setting is pure countryside with cows grazing in the surrounding fields, great if you need peace and tranquility to work.....or relax.

Well worth a visit.I booked Hob Green for a short break for myself and my wife. We have booked several hotels through Late Rooms and this has to be one of the best in relation to our overall impression. The customer service is first class with lots of nice additional touches, such as a large supply of home made shortbread and real milk in your room. The hotel itself is in a good location and has many individual touches compared to some hotels. The breakfast was very good and plenty of it with teh best toast I have ever tasted, we had dinner on one evening and although it was quite expensive it was well worth it with another individual touch being the Chef coming out at the end of teh evening chatting to everyone at each table and even passing on recipes. The only fault that I could find with the hotel that I could find was one that has been mentioned in other reviews and that is the shower and water supply, the showeronly works at certain height, which was unfortunately well under my 6'1" and the bath takes ages to fill and the water was not that hot (I did manage though). Thanks to the management and staff for an excellent relaxing couple of days.

If there were a higher classification than excellent we woulf give it.Warm, friendly family run hotel. Most considerate and quietly efficient at every level. Charming old house in lovely grounds. Great views from every window. The food was superb and we enjoyed a lovely relaxing walk around the informal farmland and wooded grounds. I would have stolen the little gazebo and taken it home if it would have fitted in the boot of our car. Nearby Ripon and Harrogate are stuffed with interesting and pleasing things to see and do.

With the hotel having a three start rating I didn't realise who it was aimed at. Other guests were pleasant but were clearly upper class. We felt a bit out of place and were expecting a more casual atmosphere. The decor was antique with a wonderful open fire. The door to our room was difficult to open, every time. Staff checked on us regularly but failed to notice that our drinks were finished (in the bar) or that we'd finished eating. Whilst I was happy they chatted to us some staff appeared inexperienced/nervous. Our meal was lovely but more extravegant than we were expecting. Expensive but worth the cost. There is no bar menu which I hadn't realised, which significantly increased the cost of the trip. The beer in the mini bar was out of date but we weren't charged for this when we settled up. It was unclear from the breakfast menu what each person was allowed ot order i.e. it was in sections but didn't say if you were meant to choose one from each section or a certain number of options in total. This would be a lovely place to stay if you were attending the races or going hunting. The surrounding grouds were scenic and peaceful and there was plenty of room to park. Whilst I wouldn't stay here again, that isn't because I disliked it. It's because I don't stay in this area regularly and would like to stay somewhere with leisure facilities when I'm away on a short trip. Thankyou for an enjoyable night away.

Our first room had a very hard bed, but when we complained we were moved to a suite with a soft and comfortable one. The water supply was low pressure, and in the rush before breakfast, the shower would only issue water when the head was held at knee level. This is not up to the standard of a modern professional hotel. The food was marvellous, and the staff very friendly and attentive. Our overall experience was very positive, and we would return. However, many guests would have been very disappointed by the shortfalls.

My wife and I stayed at the Hob Green last weekend and couldn't have made a better choice. The hotel is tucked away in gorgeous countryside but within comfortable distnace of the main route from Ripley to Harrogate. The quality of service was unfailingly excellent and the food was of a high standard. Our room was particularly comfortable, spotlessly clean, and the welcoming complimentary box of chocolates and fresh flowers in the room brought an immediate smile to our faces. This is the perfect get away retreat for couples wanting to just cill out in elegant surroundings and be pampered. Highly recommended and a place we will definitley visit again when in the country. Second visit to a lovely hotel. The small touches such as home made shortbread hearts and fresh milk in the room make it a special place to stay.Friendly staff, good service and food. Try a walk in the gardens and a chat to the gardeners you will go home relaxed and happy
