The hotel is set among gorgeous banyan trees all around and the pool area view is a stunning scene on Hilo Bay. It is old but grand and really needs an extensive remodeling. The rooms were comfortable and clean however it was a bit overpriced. The other hotels in Hilo do not look better, however. I would stay here again.

Older hotel (1965) but kept in fairly good condition. Compared to the other Hilo hotels along Banyan Drive this is by far the best. Some of the other looked down right scary. But don't expect anything extra special and you won't be disappointed. It was clean, safe and a good location for exploring the Volcanoes National Park and other areas.

I very much enjoyed my stay at the Castle Hilo Hawaiian Hotel. The service was excellent, the staff friendly and efficient and excellent value for money.

The hotel was located in the middle of everything and right on the bay. We had a great view of the bay and the turtles. We enjoyed walking every morning in the park that was right next door to the hotel. We really enjoyed our trip and look forward to going again in the near future.

I would remind anyone staying in Hilo that there not many options and this is one of the best options. having said that don't expect too much. I found this hotel to be very good compared to other hotels in Hilo, specially if you are on budgeted trip. The room was big, bathroom was clean, beds comfortable. Draw back, if you don't eat dinner at 9 you will go hungry unless you want to go outside the hotel. There is a place near by I think called Ken's pancake house, it's reasonably priced and open all night. Everything else get closed by 9. If you have less time and want to maximize your time in Big Island. I would suggest that you stay at Hilo and in Hilo Castle. Everything is close by.

This was perfect for our excursion to the Big Island. We were honeymooning in Honolulu and wanted to come over for an overnighter to see Kilauea. The hotel was very clean, refreshing, and comfortable. The staff was friendly and very helpful with sightseeing tips. And the location is unbeatable, very convenient.

Convenient location and clean. This hotel was conveniently located to the airport and downtown. It was located on the bay and has a lovely view from the lounge. The pool was small, but adequate. The TV was located in a place where it was difficult to watch from bed. There was a small patio overlooking a Banyan tree and the street.

after checking out all the options in hilo for our long stay as we were there to drop off our son to the collage , (we made it a vacation as well.) all reveiws rated this hotel as the best in Hilo. It's in bad need of room updating but the room itself was large and comfortable. The staff was helpful and very nice. The view on the bay side was out of this world. Lobby was clean and very nice. On the down side, the pool could have had longer opening hours. Closing at 7 pm is a bit early for HI. And we were not able to use the lobby computers as they did not work. And if they did work, there was a charge for use. For the $$ you pay to stay there, I think free hi-speed internet use would be a given as it is at most hotels now days. That was a big issue for us as we could have used it for collage info. Hotel was in nice location and parking was not bad at all either. Overall, I would rate it as a nice place to stay. Unless you want an updated resort type hotel this is not it but great for families who need a decent place to stay.

There aren't alot of choices in Hilo so here's your only good option. The hotel is fine but don't expect a 5 star experience. The beds were fine and the room was clean. It's a good value and I would definitely stay there again.

The building is older, but the room was comfortable and the view (spend the money and upgrade to an oceanview) was beautiful!! The staff went out of their way to help us and were very friendly. We had a maintenance issue and they were ready to fix it within minutes of our call to the front desk. Great tips and hints on places to see/go. Folks need to remember, this is Hilo, if you need nightlife/discos/parties you're on the wrong side of the island. We were not disappointed and would definitely stay here again.

If you have to go to Hilo, this is the Hotel. Fabulous views of the bay and decent rooms. Nice pool and adjacent grounds. Plenty of convenient parking. Very friendly staff.

We only stayed here for a couple days, but it was a nice place. Pretty close to Volcano National Park (which is why we went to the big Island). The hotel wasn't the best place in the world, but it was clean with an old town charm and the room was pretty big overlooking the water. I'd stay here again for sure especially for the price.

Great location in Hilo. The check-in and check-out staff were not friendly. Great location. Overall hotel was somewhat rundown and front desk personnel were not friendly. I was very surprised by this since most of the people I came into contact with on Hawaii were very friendly.
