The view of the Golden Gate bridge from the room. Carpet dirty, washbowl boxed in with plywood.

Good location, but not all the advertised facilities were available. The rooms are fairly run down and need some attention.

A toenail, blood spatter, and a hole in the ceiling- a taste of the surprises lying around our "suite" at this pitiful excuse for a motel. It should be condemned. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!! I regret this site doesn't allow you to hand out ZERO stars, because one star makes it look like they deserve credit for having at least the basics taken care of. They don't. The low price can easily lure you. This "hotel" is a slum in which you can rent a room for the night. Think sleazey hourly motel meets weekly transient motel and you get a rough description of what the nicer rooms are like. Do net let the photos fool you. The lobby is the only part of this establishment where a penny has been invested in upkeep. When my girlfriend and I were informed we had been "upgraded" to a "suite," we were somewhat excited. When we arrived we noticed the center of the ceiling was damaged, exposing the sheet rock. In the center of this was a light fixture, missing its glass covering, and missing both light bulbs as well. Two of the three floor lamps in our "suite" were missing. The "suite" included a couch, upon which we found a human toenail left for us to enjoy. Upon the AC unit, some small blood stains. A terrible experience.

This is by far the worst hotel I've ever stayed in, I should've read the reviews beforehand. I chose the hotel because of price and location and regretted not spending more on a better hotel. I saw several families staying here that clearly felt uncomfortable with the filth and lack of security.First, the layout is like an enormous motel so anyone off the street can walk up to your room door or balcony. There is absolutely no security. The room I was originally booked into only had a sheer curtain on the patio doors to the balcony, no privacy/light blocking curtain. Also, the thermostat was hanging from the wall by a wire and did not work. A call to the front desk resulted in a guy showing up to tell me that no privacy curtain was available until the next day and that the ceiling fan was the source of air conditioning. I called the front desk and got another room (even though they had told me I received the last room that night when I originally checked in).In general, the common areas are filthy, the room carpets werer never to be vacuumed and they never changed the sheets over 4 days, sockets had scorch marks on them from shorting out, towels were not hung but left on the bed and the cleaning lady stole my toothpaste one day!Don't stay here!

Good location but very poor in many other respects: The decor/bathroom was very dated and carpets looked shabby and dirty. Our room was on the top floor and got incredibly hot every day - and there was no air con! There was no fridge either. The in-room safe was out of order, we had an ironing board but no iron... Would not stay there again!

Staff checking guests in did not care who had been waiting longest in the lobby while they dealt with computer problems. The hotel is in a great location, but the hotel itself is very dingy. Anyone can get into the hotel hallways at all hours. The staff checking us in were pre-occupied with a computer issue, and when they did get around to dealing with the growing crowd in the lobby, they did not try to serve the people waiting longest first. The desk clerks did not even talk to each other about what was going on with the guests or the computer. Everyone was confused and the waiting guests in the lobby felt hopeless about getting good service. Our room had a running toilet that wouldn't stop. We called down to let them know, and they said it would be fixed right away. We went out for the evening, and came back to an unfixed toilet. We called again and a maintenance person arrived about 30 minutes later. He was nice and fixed the toilet in about 15 minutes. We were not able to get into bed until after midnight.

Check in was easy and simple. One person in My group was handicapped and had to walk up a small flight of stairs (VERY difficult for her) becaucse their wheelchair elevator had been out of service for OVER A WEEK! It was an old hotel and showed it. Thin walls, noisy neuighbors and as stated before, very little handicapped access. I would surely recommend a different place for anyone wanting a good night of sleep. (It semms a great party hotel) Continental breakfast was adequate.

Upon arrival we found parking in a strange pattern in a garage, so tight that only the smaller cars fit and if anybody parks incorrectly, other spaces will be unuseable. Okay, I accept that parking in San Francisco is an issue. When we checked in we were greeted (not) by a fairly rude woman who barely spoke English. We had questions about the area but could not get them answered. The elevators, stairs were dirty. The room was not overly dirty but could have been better and my husband saw a cockroach. The worst part though, was the hot water would run out in the morning and we would be left with a cold shower. There was a glass panel missing from our window and all panels are easily removed. Break in would be a piece of cake. They did replace the panel when I asked but since the windows did not close correctly anyway, It was like sleeping outdoors. The noise was relentless. I could have been sleeping on the balcony. Also, the heater barely put out any heat which was quickly lost due to the bad window. Positives: Blow dryer, iron, in room safe, good TV, comfortable, large bed, spacious room, continental breakfast but we did not try it, and location is convenient. It was a 6 taxi ride to Fisherman's Wharf and also to North Beach. Also, it was the cheapest room when I booked. But I would not stay again since I did not get much sleep for the noise and I don't appreciate the cold shower.

The only place that I stayed in in California where I was concerned for security, although it transpired that this concern was unfounded. The hotel was scruffy and run-down, I would not stay here again. The room was naturally over-heated with a west facing aspect catching the late afternoon sun, and little in the way of ventilation. The breakfast was barely adequate. There are far better hotels in SF for similar prices. The taxi fare to the airport was reasonable though, at $15.

Everyting was OK however the only thing I think they need to update is the internet, you have to pay $5.00 for 5 minutes

I wish there was a Motel 6 nearby. The Hotel is old and dirty. The staircases smell like urine. We got into the elevator once and the door wouldn't shut. When we got here, we were given a horrible room that wasn't even suitable for a homeless person (this place would be a perfect homeless shelter). There are light bulbs (2 of them) missing from our room. Sometimes when housekeeping comes by, the room keys are disabled and you have to get new keys to get into your room. The vending machine was empty. There's no phone books in the room. The cover was not on the thermostat and the room gets hot when you close up the manual locking window. We made sure we spent as much time AWAY from the hotel. As college students, this hotel was too bad for us. It was the cheapest to book, but you definitely get what you pay for, and that isn't much at the Heritage Marina Hotel.

Staff was surly, the room dank, the bed rack-like. Late night pounding on the door and testing of the windows. I slept on my wallet to have a fighting chance.

My friends and I were trying to save a few bucks, this place had free parking and cheap rooms. There is a reason for that, the lobby was nice, so I was excited to see our room however when we were in the stairwell we noticed a powerful smell of urine, which complemented the hint of cigarettes and last nights party in the hallway. Upon entering our room we found that the ceiling fan had been broken, it looked like there had been a brawl, and there had been absolutely no housekeeping done between guests. After going down stairs and requesting another room we headed back to unload our stuff, however when we got up there we noticed a man moving his luggage from that room to another. He said the front desk had called him and he would be out in twenty minutes, we told him not to worry about it. Finally I just demanded a refund which they gave me however, the travel agency has a period of 7-14 business days before they take the charge off of the account. The moral of the story is that we should have payed attention to the reviews on this website, this hotel is straight up awful and it is not worth the savings. Do not stay there, just don't, I cannot stress that enough.

They did not charge me when I left the hotel. I did not like anything about this hotel. It was filthy, there was a hole punched in the bathroom door and there was a mouse in our room. The elevator looked like it had never been cleaned along with the furniture in our room. It was disgusting.

Free parking, Yeah! The one and only positive point in the 10 minutes we were on the property. Nice lobby, but wait! The hotel smells like a mix of urine, smoke, and mold. The room had not been cleaned in a week, even though there was a disgusing mess left behind (cigs, pizza, excessive damage.) We ran for another room. And just then, some random man with a baby stroller comes walking out! With no baby! He was "switching rooms" and would be done in twenty minutes. Wierd. The whole building had a negative atmosphere and I was a bit scared to say the least. We then asked for our horribly spent money back without a place to stay. Yes, it was that bad. I guess the hotel had a decent location but there are like 10 hotels within a few blocks. In fact, go check out the Redwood Inn down Lombard towards the GG bridge. It compared like a Hilton. DO NOT STAY HERE.

I've stayed at the Heritage Marina several times. A few years I paid about $*/night including tax, my room was clean, the hallways freshly painted, and extra towels for the pools available for the asking. The next time I stayed the exterior had been upgraded and the rooms were more expensive but still pleasant. Three years later I'm paying around $*/night with tax and was given a room with a queen bed when I paid for a king. I asked for another room with a pool view and a king bed and got one facing the Van Ness with a bathroom I could barely turn around in. The room was fairly clean but not like the first visit. Several days I didn't have fresh towels or was missing a wash cloth, etc. The hallways do no appear to have been painted during this time with visible flaking of paint on the room doors. The police visited because a room was broken into during my stay. I'm afraid I'll have to cross this off my list of bargain stays.
