Inexpensive & cleanFor a quick business trip, what more could you ask? The accomodation is very basic, but clean and functional. The location is within easy reach of the city centre and airport, but does not provide the usual hotel facilities of bars & resuarants etc. Take a book - no TV or radio. Very little mobile phone signal.

Robert Bryson hallI hope that Robert Bryson hall is not one of halls dedicated to visitors all year round, as the standard was, quite frankly, appalling. At this price I expected the accommodation to be basic, but not for it to be dirty! The carpet was stained (badly) the desk chair was not only stained, but had torn seat covers, and the bathroom grout/sealant was full of mould. The whole room (but in particular the bathroom) stank of fag smoke. I also had no coffee sachets in my room on the first evening. Not only was there no TV in the room (although there was an arial point), when we went to the TV lounge, there was no TV in there either. We arrived at about 7pm and could not get a hot meal (and, BTW all the sandwiches left at Cafe Brio were not suitable for vegetarians) so we ended up going out to Corstorphine.Other people staying on the corridor where very thoughtless, shouting down the corridor to each other at 5.30am, and propping their respective room doors open in the very late evening so that they could talk to each other. I know that this is not the fault of Heriot Watt, but it was another negative aspect to the whole stay. The two good things were that the bed seemed clean and comfortable and the shower was powerful and hot (although I had to keep my eyes closed to avoid sight of the mould). However, even there a problem arose as there was no hot water on the Monday morning.I was not expecting the accommodation to be luxurious at such a low price, and, as an ex-student myself, I knew that it would be basic, but there is no excuse for poor standards of hygiene and cleanliness. I would not stay here again under any circumstances.

Heriot Watt UniThe accommodation was basic as expected. I was pleased to find a TV and alarm clock in the room, but disgusted by the mould on the shower base caused by lack of ventilation and dismayed to find the height of the shower head couldn't be adjusted. Staff on the other hand were incredibly friendly!

Basic but goodBasic accomodation, but I had an LCD tv with freeview, coffe and tea making facilities, access to the universities faciilites and Herriot Watt though a little out of town has excellent transport links and is very close to the airport.

Good value for moneyUni style accomodation for not very much money so don't expect 5 star luxury. Breakfast was fine and again good value. I would use again

ValueSimple, clean ,value for money accomodation, as a single traveller it was ideal for my needs, regular, direct public transport into central Edinburgh from accomodation. I did enjoy a cooked breakfast!

Cheap, but very long way out, rooms slightly cell like! But if you're booking late, not staying out late at night (think £13-18 for a cab) then does the job.

Marathon weekendI found the staff at the university very helpful. One nice touch I found was that they put breakfast on much earlier than usual on the day of the marathon so that us runners were able to have breakfast before the race. The only downside was the lack of main mains early Sat evening and the cost of the food.It would be nice if they replaced the milk used for tea and coffee.

Herriot Watt Campus accommodationI stayed at the university the night before the Edinburgh Marathon. The room was all that i expected, having been a student once myself. It was cheap, basic and clean. Nothing flash, but just what i was looking for.

Great pre-booking experience! poor reception, no telly, inaccuate info about services 'available'!Both LateRooms.com and Heriot-Watt were wonderful and accommodating to book with. I had to change around several days and room scenarios and the people in the booking department at heriot-watt were helpful and top notch! Then i arrived! rude receptionist when i asked how to find reception (it is a large university campus, not a silly question). I found reception and only then was told that i would have no telly in my room for the entire 3 nights. i asked if there was a lounge with a telly to relax in after long working hours in the city (the reason for my stay) and was told, 'yes, there is a television lounge in your hall for you to use.' There was a lounge, however, there was no access to it (locked) and no visible television either. There was to be a cafe bar on site open until 10pm each night. Important as the university is near no food outlets, etc. one evening when desperate for a bite to eat before bed. I turned up at the cafe at 9:15, saw a few pre-made sandwiches, and was told to go to the student union instead. I went directly to the closed student union and upon return to the cafe at 9:25 they were all but closed up. they lied and said that a big group had come and swiped up all the sandwiches in the 7 minutes that i was away and upon complaint 'miraculously' found them. A blatant lie and horrible service!

Value for moneyWe only needed a place to sleep in Edinburgh as we were running the marathon the next day. This was a cheap, basic room and just what we needed. It is quite far out of the city centre and there wasn't an early bus into town and we had to get a taxi costing £15.

End of termOnly warned on checking in that it was end of term and may be noisy. Party on lawn outside window until approx 2 am. Fire alarm set off at 5.30 am.

The standard of accomodation was very good, however, the noise from other guests and students (at the end of the academic year) was a bit overloud. The students we could understand but the guest should have been made aware of the presence of others. We had to travel over 300 miles and had very little sleep due to a fire alarm being set off and televisions rather loud. There seemed to be no security about except when the fire alarm went of in the early hours.

For someone travelling on thier own with basic needs and a tight company budget, you couldn't find better. Whilst not a luxury hotel (nor is the price) there is everything that one could want/need for an overnight business stay. Accessible and secure. I use this hotel regularly.
