I stayed here in May for one week. The hotel is old but still in good condition. My room was large and quiet and the rate was reasonable. The best thing about the hotel was the buffet breakfast: lots to eat, (usually) fresh and always tasty. The staff were mixed: some were polite and very helpful; some were polite and less helpful, and the chief doorman seemed only concerned about a tip. The hotel has a small internet room under the guise of a "business centre" but I'd recommend going elsewhere if possible. There were only 4 computers and invariably one or two weren't working, frequently the internet connection was lost and on top of that it's very expensive compared to other places. Despite the negatives, I'd recommend this hotel, in particular because of it's prices and breakfast. There are better hotels in Cairo but there are a lot worse.

We stayed there twice as a family and had a fantastic holiday in Cairo. The second time we booked a room with a Nile view and was well worth the extra cost. I would not recommend using the taxi service in the Hotel as they are way outpriced and tend to take far more time getting anywhere. Example went out using hotel taxi service had to pay 40 Pounds on return found a metered taxi and paid 5. Staff are very friendly, hotel is clean and best of all it is so centrally located. We booked tours via the internet with viator and found them to be very efficient and far cheaper. We would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Hotel is ok. Rooms are spacious but very old. Reception is always so busy and food was ok. I would recommend it for people who are staying for a short period of time in Cairo.

I was at an international conference for one week in June 2009. This hotel was much less expensive than the one across the street, where most of the meetings were held. It was fine for me because the service was good and the rooms were spacious, if not spotlessly clean. Beware of the taxi manager in the lobby -- his arrangements doubled our fare.

Hotel has good central location on the East bank of the Nile Downtown. Has character as it is one of the older hotels but, conversely, lacks modern amenities such as Health Club/Swimming Pool. Has free wireless internet but in the Lobby/Mezzanine Lounge area only. Good value for money at [website] rates, not so much so at the 'rack' rate.

Great Hotel, Great Service and Great Location. The restaurant at the hotel were also good.

The Hotel is located very close to Cairo Museum, the room we got has two levels with the toilet near the entry and some steps to get the bed which is an issue if you have toddlers. The view was very ugly to the roof of nearer buildings.

Good value for money. Nice restaurants in the hotel, and the breakfast was amazing, with a wide range of choices. Staff were extremely friendly. Rooms were very spacious and clean

Traditional hotel in the best location in Cairo good staff. it is worth paying for deluxe room to get the balcony and Nie view if you are a first time visitor to cairo or it is a special occassion

although the hotel looked good the food was cold and bland. the concierge came across as helpful but he was only trying to make money from us by recommending rip off trips!!! it was ok as it was within walking distance of the Egyptian museum but don't go on any of their trips

The room away from the Nile was quiet. Cleaning staff and Staff serving breakfast are very nice and friendly, but they seem to be a little overworked and understaffed. In contrast, too many porters, and all expect to be tipped, where bags are moved in sections between porters, rather than by one porter. This is irritating and not professional. Hotel staff, as in most Cairo hotels, have a conflict of interest offering advice, as they want you to use the hotel's taxi service, and overpriced tours. It is best not to ask them questions, even about directions.

The 1st 4- floors are very noisy, specially rooms facing the Naile. It is below 5* categories, breakfast buffet is very good, and in general it is good hotel comparing the price.

An old hotel albeit with history. The age showed in our room. Staff were abrupt verging on rude. We arrived at 6.30am and were told that to sit in the lobby until 10am (the lobby cafe wasn´t even open at that time). Luckily we noticed a shift change an hour later and were given a room. All staff push you to book tours and limousine services through them (no doubt for a cut) and are frosty when you decline. The buffet breakfast was ok, but meals at other times were average. We went across the road to the Intercontinental for meals and received better service from both restaurant and hotel staff. We also had to use the business centre at the Intercontinental rather than at the Shepheard as apparently the printer was broken.
