We booked the hotel via internet for 5 nights. The hotel has to be considered as a 3*. It is completely run down. The spa does not really exist and the outdoor pool is a catastrophe. The whole house is in a very bad condition. We did not accept our tower room (old, dirty, and with a 140cm bed!). The staff was very friendly and comprehensive and we were offered one of their cottages. They're beautiful, clean and well equipped. Congrats! We got a cottage with full ocean view and could finally enjoy the rest of our trip to Cornwall.

Just spent fantastic three days at The Headland. Big log fires, delicious food, and the most friendly staff you can imagine - all meant that we really enjoyed ourselves. Would highly recommend trying to get a room with a view out to sea. The massive rolling waves are awesome!

Way too expensive for what you get. At breakfast some of the plates and cutlery wasn't properly cleaned, the staff were helpful but it seemed like there were not enough of them to cope with the number of guests and the general ambience of an old establishment in need of updating didn't warm me to the place. I had colleagues staying at a hotel just down the road, which, at about Â£60 a night seemed a much better deal.

A large hotel (approx 100 rooms) going through a 7 year refurbishment programme. This was not evident at the time of visit and is being conducted during winter months. Rooms clean and tidy, staff helpful, food good. No hesitation in going back. An excellent location adjacent to Fistral Beach, could be exciting watching waves when stormy. Should be even better when plans all completed.

We love this hotelMy wife to be and I stayed here recently and previously, two years ago. The hotel is in a fabulous location, Fistral beach is a great all rounder - great for surfing, walking, playing, swimming or just watching the waves. The rooms are of a good size and the beds are comfortable. We found the hotel to be very clean and well kept. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly - nothing is to much to ask. The food is excellent in both the Sand Brasserie and the The Terrace bar. It is an expensive hotel, but we felt totally pampered and therefore it was money well spent.We love it at the Headland so much we are getting married there next year!

Headland Hotel - NewquayThis is an old hotel. It might be expensive, but if you book a"Headland" grade room, don't expect it to be large. Our room was fairly small originally, made smaller by the installation of an en-suite bathroom.However, the hotel is in a really great location and our room overlooked Fistral Beach. It might be expensive, but I don't regret the cost. The Sands Brasserie provides excellent food at a reasonable cost, given the quality. However, if you want to sit by the windows overlooking the coast, you must book early, there is great demand for these tables.

What a lovely place to stay! Pretty hotel in a fabulous location - ideal for a romantic break, and also child-friendly. My room was a budget room, with no view, but it was very convenient and attractive despite this. The view from the public rooms more than made up for the lack of room view. Also I appreciated the wood burning fires with large soft comfy sofas, in communal areas - very relaxing. Very nice staff, in reception and in the dining room in particular. Lovely breakfast - wide selection, and all good quality.

Customer service was excellent and the hotel was very clean. I do think the room was rather expensive in comparison with other hotels of a similar calibre and also that breakfast should start earlier than 8am as this meant we were unable to take advantage of this and had to make do with a continental breakfast in our room.

accommodation was disappointing. room though clean and tidy was VERY small. staff were friendly and helpful. pity there are so few british staff. food was good however we had quite a long wait for our lunch to be prepared. understaffed? dinner in the restaurant was nice. could look less like a dining hall if the lights were dimmed in the evening.

Hotel a little way from town of Newquay but a only a £4 taxi ride from Bus Depot unless you get the cheating driver who charged us £7 (and a multiple hire to boot)! Sort of faded glory (built in 1900) but comfortable and spectacular views. A little pricey for what it is, but friendly and relaxed. Meals were lovely but again on the pricey side.

My comments are based on very frequent visits to Hotels about Britain. The Hotel was listed as 4 Star, I don't how many years ago this was given its accreditation. It certainly was not in the last 10 years, I would guess. The room itself was basically a cupboard in the middle of the Hotel. The rooms were very dowding and in bad need of redecorating, the bathroom was in serious need of restoration; storage facility for clothing were vitually non existent a small cupboard, not what you would expect of a 4 Star Hotel. The basic Travel lodges dotted about the country are in better condition. Not very good value for money.
