Too much cheese!We requested a quiet room and also had air conditioning, which is a must. There were signs asking that the windows should not be opened in summer - we woke in the night very hot as the radiator on full!! Room generally fine, except the very holey towels - throw them away! Staff and owner very friendly. The bar gets incredibly busy. We shared a ploughmans on day one, arrived with mouldy piece of apple, asked for another but told 'none left' - we were brought more cheese! After the cheese-fest at breakfast, I can only assume that they had an arrangement with a supplier, the meals are very generous, especially if you order cheese! Not cheap, although Oxford isn't. a short walk from the town centre.

Location excellent, but if you didn't have a river view could be noisy due to the beer garden.This hotel, while lovely was a little pricey, when you consider for not much more we could of stayed at the randolph.

A nice hotelA nice hotel with good service. The hotel is located near the city center, just a short walk from Christchurch. The room was nice with all the facilities we needed. Since the room was on the fourth floor, just below the ceiling, we had great use of air conditioning. In the corridor outside the room it was very hot.

Hotel was nice, but we stayed on the warmest few days of the summer so far. The room was on the top floor and like an oven, a fan was provided but only circulate the hot air. We could not open the windows because of the insects from the river. It was unbearable and impossible to sleep. They either need to install aircon or get meshes for the windows.The staff and food were excellent.

Head of The River, OxfordOverall, the stay at HOTR was a good experience. The staff were efficient and friendly and seemed to take a real pride in their work.The double room was adequate but poorly lighted. The bed was small, but comfortable. The room could accommodate a Kingsize bed with ease.The food was good, although a little limited. The chips were among the best I have ever tasted!The pub is very cosy and very well placed for direct access to the city centre.The biggest problem was with the parking arrangements and access to the small parking area was very tight indeed!

Nice location on Thames with punting and long river walks at the doorstep. Noisy pub on property. Room a bit stuffy despite provided fan--would help to have window screens and thus to be able to open the windows without insect intrusion. If you are driving be sure to pre-arrange a parking spot!

Had a superior room which was very good. Lovely location directly on the river. Service was friendly. Only thing that was poor was the choice & quality of the food. Menu in the room seemed to indicate there was a wide variety of food on offer but when we went down into the bar the choice was very limited & of mediocre standard

Perfect positionWe had a very pleasant stay. Parking for the car and then we were able to walk around the City Centre. Very friendly, helpful staff.

LovelyOnly a short stay, as we were coming from London to see a concert at the New Theatre. Check-in was quick and friendly. The room was excellent with great views from both windows.Despite being above a pub, and overlooking the beer garden, the room was quiet, even on the first night of a four day weekend!Breakfast was really good and the breakfast staff were really smiley and friendly.

Great stay in a great townService was really good. Even though pub was really busy, they found us a table for dinner. Food was really nice. The beer garden at the front will be noisy as the weather warms up, so try to get a room on the other side if that is a worry. Room was fine, and the amenities were up to standard. Breakfast was good quality, even if the toast was cold. The location is brilliant, and walking distance from all the attractions. We really enjoyed our stay.

Brilliant staff, fine location, all right as a pub, although it shuts at 11pm on Friday and Saturday!!But the premises are cheaply refurbished (the room 9 loo seat needs to be held up for micturating gents!) and one can hear other loos flushing and doors closing.Worth £45 a night

OVERNIGHTSatisfactory \" Inn \" accommodation close to the town centre. I did not have an evening meal there , breakfast was adequate. The main drawback is lack of parking although this is a widespread problem in central Oxford.
